[Top 5] BEST & WORST Episodes of The Powerpuff Girls 2016 Season 3 (Part 1)

Well, the Top 5 Best & Worst of Season 3 is here, and now that I've continued the trend of starting my seasonal Top 5 video description with "Well," I can get into the nitty gritty. Season 3 came and went much faster than the previous two seasons. In fact, it went by so fast that I literally finished reviewing the whole thing in under a year's time. Compare that to the year and nine months season 1 took, or the two it took me to get through season 2... yeah that's a pretty substantial increase if I've ever seen one.
Somehow despite having a full-time job, I'm more productive now than I ever was in college despite having way more free time back then. That's probably thanks to me living a healthier lifestyle and not having to deal with the same stresses that college would put me through, and I'm very thankful I don't need to go through that anymore haha.
That said, this season was still a lot of fun! Hopefully you guys enjoyed my reviews as much as I did; I realize I didn't really include as many editing gags as I used to in the previous seasons, but I didn't want to just repeat the same jokes I used in my prior reviews. Plus, there's only so many jokes I can make about this one show and I just wasn't feeling the same sense of humor about it that I used to have. I was honestly just looking to review each episode with a more analytical mindset and then fly through the season as fast as possible.
While I did have fun reviewing season 3, I'm also definitely ready to finally be done with this show. It has been a LONG time since I started, and I really need a break from it. I'm satisfied with how far my channel has come and how much I have grown since day one, it's actually crazy to see how much better I've gotten over the years. Heck, I remember when I thought I peaked in 2018 yet here I am 3 years later and now I still feel like I have room to grow haha.
Thanks for taking the time to read this long-winded description, I honestly couldn't have done this without everybody's continued encouragement and support. KZbin, as complicated as the platform may be, is still one of my favorite hobbies, and it's all thanks to you guys. Hopefully you enjoy this handful of bonus videos, and I hope you'll stick around for what I'm going to be doing afterwards. I'm excited yet nervous to see what the general response will be. This might be a nitpick, but I really think that a SPOON isn't a fitting symbolic pick for something that is supposed to be against DENTISTS. Like I understand the whole brush your teeth after breakfast tastes nasty thing, but that's only with ORANGE JUICE (As stated at the beginning of the episode). If a giant glass of ORANGE JUICE landed in townsvile INSTEAD of a spoon, and bubbles could whisper to that it would make better thematic sense for me that bubbles would want to rid the city of dentists I don't see a spoon and immediately think "ah yes, this clearly wouldn't go well when brushing your teeth." When I see ORANGE JUICE on the other hand, I do ABSOLUTELY think that.

Total Eclipse of the Kart should have been the series finale. Maybe it was, and the episodes got rearranged because that just keeps happening with these studios. But either way, it was still a fun episode overall, and I'm glad the reboot was able to make at least a handful of entertaining episodes.

@IAmAKebab Most of the dirtying of your teeth happens while you sleep, actually. I find the terrible mouth taste from waking up to be vastly more off-putting to breakfast (a meal I'm more inclined to skip anyway) than the very faint taste of toothpaste interacting with it. And literally eating any other part of the breakfast first (coffee, a mouthful of those pancakes and syrup, whatever) before sipping the orange juice would fix even that non-issue.

LCW: The late 2010s Powerpuff Girls are Average Characters and anyone who thinks they don’t have enough redeeming qualities to keep themselves away from being some of the worst Cartoon Network shows is a misogynistic pig because of course, they ignore their good qualities and point out their bad qualities as an excuse to make them sound under-hated! Your breakdown of Save the Date kinda reminded me of the old comic Robin Dies at Dawn. For context, this is a story where Batman volunteers for this test to see how isolation effects people or something and because of what brains do with lack of stimulus or interaction he hallucinates this crazy dream that ends with Robin (Dick) dying and him feeling responsible. He gets like low-key PTSD and as he and actual live Robin go on to fight crime he keeps getting flashbacks to it and freaking out and almost getting them both killed. After this happens a few times, he sees the pattern and goes to just stay at Wayne Manor and let Robin work on his own for a bit and worries about if this is gonna stick and end his crimefighting career. Eventually some gang (a really weird gang, bunch of guys in monkey suits) capture Robin and plan to kill him by tying him to a weather balloon and setting it loose and having him suffocate as the air gets thinner as it rises (even though they have an axe to cut it loose so they could so usually just use that and have so many fewer ways it could fail). They send Batman a note saying they have Robin and will kill him at dawn (hence the title), so he has that long to find them and rescue his boy. The real threat of Robin actually dying snaps him out of it. I think it's actually stuck around in some modern continuities since it's such a good example of their relationship.

I feel like the episode *“Lights Out!”* Is the better option as the PPG 2016 series finale go out with a bang with Silco as a competent villain. I thought of a writing idea, Silco observing his mistake of the fighting the powerpuff girls in the past, he notice something Bliss and he never aware she exist then he went further observing and noticing technological errors and inconsistencies in the world, and Shilco discovered he’s a cartoon character that’s right I talking about Big Brain Chowder and Rick in simulation. He talk advantage of it as the final antagonist. With breaking the 4th wall it can confirm PPG 2016 is in fact a separate continuity from the original PPG cartoon.

The reboot had a favorites problem with Buttercup and even Princess. I feel like no one working on this reboot liked Blossom at all. Sometimes even Bubbles. (Although she got more good moments to shine) Also the girls getting beat up everytime and being one hit it's over was painful to watch. Blossom and Bubbles shouldn't need saving from Buttercup or vice versa. All three of them were handled poorly in all aspects.

Major problems I had with this awful reboot. Weird automatically = funny instead of telling actual jokes, The girls causing more problems then they save the say. In the original they rarely caused trouble. They are supposed to be the ones to clean up the mess, and the characters not acting like themselves. They ripped off Regular Show's formula and just did it with the Powerpuff Girls.

Also Shadow speaking of Star Wars parodies in the Powerpuff Girls if you ever read the IDW comic Super Secret Crisis War even that did a better job parodying Star Wars by having the villains create a world destroying weapon called the Death Stare and even creating a robot army which you could say was a clever nod to the Separatists Droid army from the Clone Wars which was a lot more than what The Spoon episode could bring.

Honestly you talking about the good episodes of the reboot make me feel sad with how much potential got wasted with this series. Talking about issues like depression, anxiety learning to be a kid now all resonate a lot with the current era. Too bad that twerking took all that up though. Really, this show could've had the potential to be maybe as good as the original, if they planned the plots and characters with better anticipation. The lack of balancing of comedy over action, gags that tried to appeal to this generation, and how the animation and pacing was handled could have also been handled better, even though the rating has to be changed for that to happen.

The thumbnail makes me so uncomfortable... I don't think I'll ever be able to forget how much of an obsession this reboot had for muscles. But I will be able to forget Ratpack, who was simply underused. Did we even get an origin story for him? Looking forward to Part 2, congrats on reviewing every episode in the series! No, I don't think he ever got an origin story. Considering the people that did get origin stories (Silico being some guy who was angry at the Powerpuff Girls for breaking his toys, Bliss was made because Professor Utonium was jealous of some scientist we never see), maybe it's for the best.

A much better idea would be what if Princess made a potion that made everyone super gorgeous except for her. Or if it turned everyone in town ugly except for her. hey Shadow, I wanted to tell you: I have a theory about the gnate. they copied and based him off a villain of another CN classic obscure and underrated show: Sheep in the Big City. gnate is basically angry scientist with his face and they even stole the runnin joke from the show too. The characters constantly don't remember the scientist's name just like with the gnate.

One way you could make the fog work could be to focus more on the villain team up aspect and/or have it so the Fog is still Buttercup, but isn't ehr in disguise and is more her selfish desire for a fun fight made manifiest, like have Buttercup's worst traits as the villain without having her actual do anything bad.

For the record, I'm pretty sure the title for rebel rebel is referring to the professor rebelling against "rebels". The beaker boys don't actually rebel against anything, but they exhibit a lot of traits associated with those teenage "rebels" seen in media from around the 90's or so. It's a really shitty title, but that goes without saying.

8:09 Salamander was horible. That twist at the end was so stupid. What is the point of a twist if it doesn't escalate the plot and make it worse for the characters? The episode would be exactly the same if the Nat wasn't the bad guy all along. An example of a good twist. Lotso Huggin Bear turning out to be evil in Toy Story 3. When he turns out to actually be evil Sunnyside drops its friendly facade and its run like a prison.

The episodes I hated the most were Trouble Clef and Checkin' Out. Trouble Clef for most of the reasons you pointed out, the cringe singing, it just being unpleasant to sit through. I don't really care about the unrealistic video editing, but what REALLY offended me about this episode was just how out-of-character Princess was. The insinuation that she doesn't think she's the bad guy is completely absurd, as past episodes demonstrate that she knows EXACTLY what she's doing. Remember when she paid the death ball girls to keep buttercup away from the girls so that she could strong arm them into making her a powerpuff girl, and then turned around and set out to make it so she could be, and I quote, "the ONLY powerpuff girl"? Yeah, that was a gen 3 season 1 episode. You can't expect me to believe that she is shocked at being called a villain and thinks she's friends with them when literally 2 seasons ago she tried to murder them. Checkin' Out because it was just so boring. It was 11 minutes but it FELT like an hour. And that is unforgivable. If you're gonna be bad, at least be entertaining, you know? Also any episode that has the gnat in it instantly gets knocked down a tier. I don't care what the context is, he is annoying and an overused and unfunny joke he really should have only appeared in the one episode where buttercup got huge. If the writers want a thoroughly incompetent villain for comic relief they already have one (the amoeba boys). Even his voice and character design are annoying. I would much rather prefer if they revealed Salamander to be Mojo Jojo or just some monster kid on monster island playing pretend and taking it too far than the completely illogical leap of him being the gnat, for example.

Haven’t watched the 2016 PPG reboot, and I never will because it looks and sounds like mindless garbage. But as bad as the cartoon PPG 2016 reboot was, I still bet it’s going to be a 1000 times better than the CW live action PPG spin off with the girls being portrayed as jaded young women in their twenties who feel resentful of the fact that “their childhoods were lost to crime fighting.” Like, did these people behind this show at CW ever even watch the original PPG cartoon or the 2002 movie? Aside from having a rocky start with Townsville and over some accidents and misunderstandings over their powers, and having superpowers that they chose to use to save the world before bedtime because they wanted to when the Mayor asked if they wanted to, not because anyone forced them to, Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup were pretty consistently portrayed as being normal little girls with happy, normal, and peaceful lives and everyday problems in their free time. I grew up with the classic PPG cartoon when I was six years old , and loved it. My parents did too. Upon rewatching the original classic PPG cartoon as an adult twenty years later, I can appreciate just how great it was even more, and still find new things about it to love.

I never thought in a million years I would end up writing anything in defense of...The Spoon *shudders* Look, I'm not saying for a second it does not deserve it's spot on the list. It really was absolute garbage. I simply want to offer a counter point to the issue you had with the citizens of Townsville's aggressive attitude towards Buttercup when they took their money back. In both the review and this top 5 video, you say that Buttercup had done nothing wrong, she sold them the items they requested and they choose to buy them. I'd argue this is looking at what happened in a purely abstract way, removing the social context. Now before anyone worries I'm going to launch into some kind of Marxist rant about commodity fetishism and the lack of free agency under a capitalist system, my point is far more simple and relates to how we understand consent within a cult. While the episode does not go into huge details due to it being a lighthearted, supposedly funny show along with it's small runtime, it's clear the spoon worshipers are a cult that engaged in brainwashing, the re-writing of a personas individuality to conform to a standardized group identity, wearing the same robes and parroting each others thought and actions, along with being willing to use murder against non-believers. Putting aside the tiny number of people who form a cult in the beginning, once it is established, anyone who is brought into it and brainwashed is to some extent a victim who can't be fully held account for their actions. While at first Buttercup was simply selling merchandise to a 'fad craze,' once it turned into a full blown cult, Buttercup consciously targeted a mass of emotionally and psychologically abused victims of cult brainwashing to exploit them financially, knowing that in their brainwashed state they would be willing to part with their money to buy her crap with no moral qualms about what she was doing. One only has to look at one of the countless Scientology documentaries where victims lost their life savings, the home etc blowing countless thousands of dollars buying endless sets of books by L Ron Hubburd and paying for auditing services where people say they are removing the dead alien souls stuck to their bodies to see this is a real issue. In short, Buttercup was a vile sociopath who took advantage of vulnerable people and deserves no sympathy.

Except Buttercup deserved what she got in that episode for not only trying to purposely knock out Bubbles' teeth, but also going after their Rogue's gallery and beating them senseless for their teeth (even though they weren't committing crimes) for money.

Also, her obsession of money just came out of nowhere. Not to mention her sisters are no better than her. Not only they sold her to the villains, but they also gave smug looks and raspberries at her. Also, the Professor felt very guilty for causing Blossom to be arrested for stealing golf clubs from a crooked sport store. But Buttercup, on the other hand, he just gave her cold shoulders. I'm telling you, man. McCracken and Faust are a bunch of A-holes ! Worse as Butch Hartman and Chris Savino.
