I was so proud of BoJack for saying “i remember everything. I’m sober now.” Accepting responsibility, but understanding that it wasn’t entirely his fault. The therapy horse should have been able to tell that the vodka wasn’t water. Vodka tastes nothing like water. If anything that therapy horse noticed it was vodka and continued to drink it, and after getting sober, chose to get drunk again. The only thing that BoJack should accept responsibility for is allowing for the vodka to get in his hands in the first place.

Bojack instantly recognized it for what it was--a self-loathing horse taking out their self-hate on bojack, something he experienced throughout his entire childhood. His decision to become sober and take responsibility is such an opposite mindset of all the other horses in his life, so he can instantly disarm the attempt to make him feel more guilty. No one can make him feel guilty now. It's up to him.

They don't want to be too harsh on Bojack who has worked so hard to improve his life, yet they certainly don't want to make it seem like his past behavior should be forgiven without consequences. I think Bojack should do jail time. He also should accept it willingly. That way he will be able to atone for his sins. The final episode could be set several years later after Bojack has been released. We can see where everyone's lives are several years later.

@@doiu92 yeah, it's a it's a dark comedy drama that focuses on depression and mental issues. Simpsons and FG don't focus on those at all or only shows them for shock value and cuts away. The problem is, how long can you keep that going? Especially when each character has an ark, personality and more or less development from beginning to end and that is the main focus. You'd eventually have to take focus away from an already developing Bojack, and if season 6 didn't start yet guess we could continue from...what? Continuing to see Bojack constantly screw up, understand the situation but then have a dark ending only leading to another mishap? I'm not saying the story would be stuck but since it's a character and story driven show, it's imo, in no shape to continue on till the writers get fatigue and do some horrendous episodes. But by all means, just because it's the ending doesn't mean the writers might not have more story to tell. I know the ending were getting in January is only because it's being cancelled. But, if there is more, maybe the show can get re-bought by someone. That's what happened to Futurama and hell, even Family guy which was cancelled and placed back on television. Depending on what ending we get, gives ideal freedom of what to think or do next, at least that's what I think so far.

I loved season 6, it just felt so much more positive than 1 to 5. I think Bojack will pull through the repercussions of his actions. People won't forgive him, and will still be damaged but Bojack won't go back to how he was.

I think it's reflected in the fact that he didn't have a single horse friend before Champ. season 6 is the first time we're seeing horses besides his parents tho there was that time when he saw those horses running at the end of season 3. I feel like he's very much a "out of sight out of mind" kind of guy, he's an unreliable narrator because he lies to himself and when the narrative focuses on him we only see what he sees, like with Jamieson

Personally, I think it would make more sense if it was gone about in a different way. I'm no expert or anything, so please don't shit on me for saying this, but this is how I would have rather had it go down; it makes more sense to me if it were reversed. For example, he doesn't hate himself because he hates horses in general, he hates horses because he hates himself. I think he has plenty of other major reasons for his self-hatred besides simply being a horse. Perhaps other horses remind him of himself and that is why he hates them, not the other way around. In the church reenactment, when hes forgiving the other horses, he sees himself in them in a way. This, combined with the others also forgiving him, allows him to forgive himself. I think the show would have been better off just not including the concept at all, because I also had a "huh?" moment when it was established. Bojack has a large plethora of reasons to despise himself, the simple fact that he is a horse just seems unnecessary. We watched five entire seasons of Bojack doing things to feel shitty about, we don't need this thrown on there. Just how I feel about the subject.

I felt a similar sort of confusion and saw some mixing of characterization But then I considered another notoriously controversial figure that a lot of us cant get enough of: O N I O N B O Y (aka Onision here on KZbin) and in general, the sort of dissassociative, nihilistic attitude young people--like his target audience, or those with the same pubescent mental capacity like him--tend to have they have this learned disgust and distain for "other humans", Onision very often using degrading language to describe individuals, groups, and fictional characters alike. He uses this perspective of an "alien" to other people, some subversive persona that is detached from the people around them. But, being that he and his characters/self-inserts are still human people with inevitable (yet never resolved or actualized) flaws, he also protrays a pathetic sense of aelf hatred and punishment for associating with people at any level. In simple terms, he hates people, and being a person himself, he hates himself too He begrudgingly picks at every flaw of his parents, of his peers, even of his icons and especially of himself for they are all people, they are all inherently faulty and worthy of his scorn for just b e i n g. That sort of nihilst, incensed and distant attitude can be attributed to Bojacks internal and projected hatred of horses, including himself He sees so much blame and hatred of the unforgivable horses who raised him, the horse that was his idol but didnt seem to be as valorous once he took his life, the horse who he thought was his offspring but just became an estranged family member, and especially the horse he has to see in his mirror, on his walls and screens and everywhere else, the horse who he has become. So I believe a lot of that sort of mindset and the bizarre characterization/description couldve been intentional in presenting such a relationship between a horse and the other horse-people in his life But this, thankfully, is not insufferably magnified and awfully portrayed as poor ol' Onion Boy's prose is :)

God this show hit me hard especially this season when Bojack is finally accepting responsibilities for his actions. I could relate to both Bojack and Diane. I have experienced traumatic things when I was a teenager and when I went to college so as a result I started pushing people away and lashing out. I also didn’t have a father and I honestly hate him. Unfortunately I hurt those closest to me. I don’t have any friends anymore. I just have some associates and my family hate me now. My relationship with my boyfriend is going downhill. I went to three different therapists but I didn’t feel a connection with any of them. I’m trying to forgive myself and forgive those who hurt me but it’s hard.

I know this show has a very depressing overtone most of the time, but I'm hopeful that it won't end in bojack killing himself like many people speculate. He might get close but he will be stopped (by himself or someone else) who tells him than death isn't redemption and that he has to pay for his actions himself (just like with rehab) rather than taking the easy suicide route. ​@@Lazypackmule I'm worried Diane will commit suicide...it seems like she's only a few bad days away from hurting herself. Diane and Bojack's story arcs run parallel to each other (both characters struggle with self hatred, run away to far-off places in search of a new lease on life, come from abusive families and have trouble connecting with their heritage). It would be particularly painful and poignant if one character dies while the other survives. Personally, I don't think Bojack himself will die...after all, one of the show's main themes is that Bojack needs to face consequences, and staying alive is part of that.

I hope that Bojack is the one to remind himself of your version of redemption. I just think the message in that would be important, especially in Bojack's case. He needs to be a good influence on himself, and be able to encourage himself to make good decisions, instead of relying on others to keep him in line. I was gonna end this with, "but, it is Bojack, so..." but I think that would invalidate the possibility of redemption, and I do think if Bojack Horseman, the show, ended with Bojack Horseman, the horse, actually changing for the better, it would be cool (if not just less cliché as ending the series with the idea that bad people never change).

Lazypackmule I don't think someone dying is necessary for Bojack to realize that. I said this already in this thread but it would be more impactful if Bojack kept himself together in order to keep his life together instead of needing somebody else to do that, i.e. Sarah Lynn. Bojack, rather than needing a scapegoat, needs to not have a scapegoat. Him being exposed for all of his wrongdoings is enough. Although, as a side note and criticism of antipsychotic medications and ssris etc, it would be interesting if Diane died from being chemically poisoned from her meds....but that's obviously not going to happen, because it has nothing to do with the plot and would just be a random derailment, which they don't do on this series.

The face of depression has to be one of my favorite episodes. Theres just a surreal feeling of peace throughout the episode and I was really touched by bojack visit to diane where he wakes up and cleans her dirty apartment even though he takes her scarf it still moves me because I battle with depression and low motivation to clean my room.

I think Bojack will have his happy ending because as dark as this show can be, in the end, it’s message isn’t life is a never ending shit show. The real message I’ve always gotten from the show is that you should take responsibility for your actions and for your own happiness before you can take responsibility for anything else. So I don’t think the show will end in a dark place, I think that Bojack will take responsibility for everything he has done and face the consequences but will ultimately become a better person because of it.

I think the thesis of this season if that Bojack can't be a good person until he faces the consequences of his past actions. So while a lot of people are theorizing a suicide Secretariat style, I do believe Bojack will step up and take full responsibility for his actions. Heck if in our world Chris Brown and Mel Gibson still have careers I can see BJ make a comeback at the very end of the show.

Oh there's gonna be a dead horse. Just not by suicide. Charloette will kill Bojack after Margo Martindale unsuccessfully tries to murder him at a major trial or some press conference. When that attempt is over, Bojack adds on to the list of things he's done wrong, apologizes to Margo and the director (since both were involved in the breaking and entering). Even the actress comes to forgive him. When the scene ends, he goes back to his old house to move a few things out. Charloette comes out of the shadows and says "this isn't for Herb. This for more than just my daughter. This is for me." And she shoots him. Diane finds out and decides to write another Bojack book. The full story.

I think Bojack would definitely be fine with all these allegations given that, like what you said, celebrities do shit like that all the time. I don't think it would fit into the story's narrative, though. In order for Bojack to truly evolve as a person, he needs to hold himself accountable and take responsibility for his actions. Actually, it would be really crazy if the public did forgive Bojack and he hates it, because he wants others to hold him accountable so he doesn't have to do it himself. I can imagine him being pushed to do another movie or something like that, only for him to not allow it because he has to be held accountable by someone. If that someone isn't society, it has to be Bojack. This would be a very interesting path for the show to take, in my opinion.

I hope to see more of Sarah Lynn and Bojack’s bender from Sarah Lynn’s eyes because through Bojack’s eyes we don’t really know how he got to where is or what led him there because he blacked out a lot Sarah Lynn seemed to know exactly where she is because even though she was doing the same drugs as Bojack she was still conscious and amazingly didn’t black out at all. If they don’t do any spin-offs or anything I’d really love to see the bender Sarah Lynn and Bojack went on from Sarah Lynn’s perspective because Bojack doesn’t remember much just bits and pieces, Todd’s past with his mother and biological father and see him reconnect with his mother and have a good relationship with Maude I think that Todd and Maude are so alike personality-wise that they’d work great together as a couple, and I would love to see Princess Carolyn reconnect with Ralph and Ralph being with Princess Carolyn enough to be her husband and also adopt Ruthie, Diane successful because of this new book that she’s writing and happy with Guy and meeting his son, Mr. Peanutbutter growing and not being stuck in his twenties and being finally happily married to Pickles because they are perfect for each other. Maybe Netflix will actually create Horsin’ Around as it’s own sitcom and or Mr. Peanutbutter’s House I would watch those sitcoms.

@Christopher Cruz I disagree. I think Todd is a great character. In the beginning of the show, he's portrayed as what some people would consider as a worthless, non-contributing member of society that does nothing productive and leeches off of Bojack like a parasite, but as the show continues, his character develops more and more and I really like it. He has ambition and dreams and he would have had a successful rock opera had it not been for Bojack willfully sabotaging it, which was a very important episode for developing Bojack's personality further. Bojack needs Todd to think he can never go anywhere beyond his couch, because Bojack needs Todd. As the show progresses and Todd engages in other business ventures, this is definitely shown more and more. Todd goes from being someone who leeches off of Bojack to becoming a much more mature adult who can actually succeed in life and I think he's a great character in the show that a lot of people can relate to, including myself. He's young, he has no real direction in life, but he persists and becomes more than just a waste of space. I agree that some of the Todd-focused episodes seem half-assed, but no show is perfect. I think Todd is a good character and he adds to my enjoyment of the show. You're entitled to your opinion and I'm entitled to mine, but these are just my thoughts.

Doctor Champ and BoJack, both recovering addicts, tasted the vodka. BoJack didn’t want to go back to his old ways so he spit it out. Why didn’t Doctor Champ? I’d say it’s because he’s not really healed. BoJack stated several times during the episode that the Pastiech mindset is that you’re powerless to your addiction. As soon as Doctor Champ has “one drop of alcohol”, it sends him down a “ruinous path”. He hasn’t identified the source of his addiction and is relying on external motivation (ex. his husband leaving him). He can’t take responsibility for his role in his relapse so he blames BoJack. BoJack has used this tactic enough times to know that letting himself do the same thing, taking out his pain on others, will keep him from moving forward. In the moment after Dr. Champ confirmed everything BoJack fears, BoJack chooses to own his role in the relapse, but recognizes that ultimately Dr. Champ made the choice to go back to drinking. The real ruinous path is not taking responsibility for your life and actions. P.s. sry it’s a long one I just thought it was such a sophisticated criticism of the rehab industry and I wanted to share my thoughts

@BB Hoody The case against Bojack Horseman. 1. The episode where Sextina gets pregnant just happen to be the same episode Daine gets her abortion. This is because the writers dillbertly picked the most divisive subject matter possible. They new that it would divide the fans and get us to argue over weather what Daine did was ethical or not. All in attempt to keep us distracted from the fact that the show never told us "who" got Sextina pregnant. Diane whole abortion story is a red herring. 2. In the same episode, Bojack himself admits that he's payed off past women into getting abortions and even shows fears if any of them kept it. At first this may look like forshadowing Hollyhock, but we now know she isn't his daughter. That story in season 4 was also a red herring design to get us to forget about this moment and not realize that scene was forshadowing Bojacks "real" child. (Not to mention Sextina is an even bigger and wealthier celebrity then Bojack. So simply paying her may not have even worked on her. 3. In her Abortion Music video Sextina is seen dancing with a male "Zebra". Bojack was an "Angsty Zebra" for one episode. This is forshadowing that Sextina thinks horse like creatures are attractive looking. 4. In the same Abortion episode, Bojack attempts to prank George Clooners by beatimg him with a baseball bat, to prove pranks are stupid. In order to do this he gets a job as a limo driver. When the prank fails he saids that he needs to pick up someone for a "Bachelorette Party" and then puts on a "ballcap" with the word "slut" on it. Through out the same episode Sexitan is seen wearing different "Ballcaps". The slut cap bojack puts on is part of her merch. Bojack had to wear it because she is a guest at the event. This is where they had sex. 5. She was 17 at the time of the episode. The same age as "Penny". She's also a sex addict and narcissistic, like bojack. 6. When Daine confronts Bojack about Penny at the Philbert premier, he listed other women that he also needs to apologize too. The very first one he lists is when he asks Daine: "Do you want to know why I can't go to the MTV Beach house?" MTV=teenage popstar Beach=Dolphin 7. In the same scene you can see ads for Philbert saying "What Did You Do?" And "Don't Tell Her Anything!". You can also see the web address for WhatTimeIsItRightNow.com. At this moment the adress is being used as a stand in for #TimesUp 8. Bojack new cloths at the end of the last episode are very similar to Mr. Peanutbutters "Birthday Dad" cloths. Suggesting Bojack will learn that he's a father. 9. The show has been hinting at that Bojack has secretly wanted to be a father. So wouldn't it be a dark twist full of tragic irony if he finally gets it, only for it to be the thing that brings him down? 10. Bojack already almost had sex with a 17 year old. He had sex with Sarah Lynne, who was the closet thing he had to a daughter. He slept with Todds girlfriend, whose also young enough to be his daughter and he chocked Gina. If he was left alone with Sextina, he wouldn't be able to control himself. 11. The first time we meet Sextina in season 1, she said: "They want Sextina Aquafina BABY!" And there seem to be an emphasis on the word "Baby". Suggesting that the writers were forshadowing her pregnancy very early on.....which would be an intersting move if it wasn't going to be something important later. EDIT: Almost Forgot. 12. There are two possible reasons on why he hasn't brought it up to anyone. 1. He simply doesn't remember it. He was either on drugs or drunk at the time they had sex and blocked the memory out of his mind. Just like he did with his assault of Gina. He's completely unaware that he even did anything wrong with her, or only has a vauge idea of what happened. The 2nd possible explanation: He's a master manipulater. He's manipulating fans of the show just like he has done with everyone one else in his life. Its one of the shows meta 4th wall breaks, only this time designed to get us to know exactly how it feels to be gaslighted, lied too or betrayed by Bojack. Like he did to Todd, PC, all his girlfriends, Diane and others.

@Instrumentality1000 How would it be any different from Penny or Sarah Lynne? Bojack already corssed that line with a teenager. He was "going" to have sex with Penny. The only thing that stoped him was that Charlotte "stoped" them before they could do it. Also what he did with Sarah Lynne was pretty much borderline incest and sexual abuse. It was played for laughs at first like other shows would do, but as the story went on we got to see the real life unfunny consequences Bojacks actions had on her. So he already crossed that red line twice before the abortion episode. Also he was probably at his most self-destructive in the same season that Sextina gets pregnant. He wasn't getting the help he needed yet and at this point in the show he was still a really horrible guy. 2nd. I think Bojack and Sextina would go for each other if they were left alone. Would it help if we just pretend for a moment that she was in her 20s or 30s through out the whole show? Can you picture them getting along now? They're both party animals (no pun intended), they both have huge egos, they both can't control their sexual erges, and they're both self-destructive. If Sextina was a lot older it would be more shocking if she and Bojack didn't go for each other. They have some things in common personality wise. Sextina is also similar to Sarah Lynne in some ways (who Bojack did have sex with). Like Sarah Lynne, she was a kid thrust into the entertainment world and turned into a a creepy sex icon. Which also lead her down a self-destructive path. Bojack might be attracted to her because she reminds him of Sarah Lynne. I will give you this. Its possible that the Zebra in the music video is really the father. That thought did cross my mind as a possible debunker of my theory, but I still think its a pretty big coincidence that bojack becomes a Zebra in a latter episode (aslo after rewatching the Bobo episode. I just notice that Flip, the sexually perverted film director that forced Bojack to perform a nude scene, becomes "Flippy" a "Dolphin".....intersting) The show also has a history of forshadowing future events in ways that are similar to what I described. For example, when we first meet Sarah Lynn as an adult, all the way back in season 1, she performs her music video at the "planetarium" where she dies. At the end of the same episode, she pretty much told both Bojack and the audiences how her story would end.

Bojack did try to deal with it. He asked Diane to write a hit piece on him so others would hold him accountable, to which she said no one is going to do that. He has to hold himself accountable. Also, Diane wrote Bojack's book which revealed all the horrible stuff he did pre-season 1, and it just made everyone see him as more human and love him more.

Shady Doorags You just proved my point. Bojack goes to other people (mostly Diane) and begged to be torn down, that's not dealing with his problems or changing. If Bojack really desires to deal with his mistakes then he would write an article, book, video or anything and take responsibility for his actions and change his behavior. Avoiding that critical step creates a timebomb that will force him to confront his mistakes by losing his fame and money like Cosby, Louis CK, Matt Lauer, etc. That's why the reporters/#metoo analogy will take him down during the second half of the season. Bojack will be annihilated by the story that he refused to write in the first season and every season since because he hasn't changed, he just feels guilty. I won't feel guilty seeing Bojack get what he deserves.

how does bojack being cancelled help them at all however? not saying he doesn’t have it coming but the show even states that cancellations and take downs are only temporary and just a trend for the public. bojack’s public image being soiled does nothing to amend his past actions. gina will still have ptsd, kelsey will still be out of work, and penny and charlotte will still have trust issues. the only thing i can think of is the family of the girl he got drunk getting financially compensated or something.

We don't know much about Charlotte and Penny, but considering what happened, I don't think they would want to allow Bojack to hurt other young girls (or maybe the journalists will just put the info out against their will, the point is that they have the right to speak up)

Matt I. I don’t really see your take on Gina. She isn’t unfairly treated in my eyes, she has a lot of priority and the director is putting a lot out of his way just to make things more to her liking. She’s seen as difficult because that’s what she is simply, which leads to frustration. But the crew and media don’t disrespect her, quite the opposite. She’s one of the biggest actresses in Hollywoo and people only have good things to say about her acting and potential. Plus, I think most people who have a brain in the industry are well aware of what she went through. Being able to publicly declare “Bojack Horseman physically assaulted me in a drug induced rage” doesn’t affect her trauma or her career. The only way she can move forward in her life is self healing and maybe closure with a reformed Bojack. Not the few weeks of half assed attention and support she’ll get from the public. As for the Charlotte and Penny, I think what they want most is just to be a simple happy family. Bojack will always be a stain on that, but they are moving on. Having the whole country focused on them and the terrible night they suffered would only ruin their simple happy life. Yes, Charlotte’s image of Bojack is forever changed and she is certainly fearful of what he is capable of doing to young girls, but I doubt she thinks he is a monster who needs to be locked up and she has to sacrifice her family’s solace just to protect the girls of the world. But I do agree with you that the journalists won’t care what they think. That’s just my interpretation of the show though. Could be wrong, but we’ll have to wait and see. Maybe the outcry is what gives Bojack the motivation to sincerely apologize to Gina and she can function normally again. But I think when this dark story drops, it’s only purpose is to see if Bojack can face the consequences regardless how bad they seem, and regardless that he’s changed. If he can accept it, and still continue to better himself, he succeeded.

I think the ending is gonna be Bojack giving up his material possesions and life in Hollwoo as a result of his Meetooing. The public will think he's suffering and lost everything when in reality he'll be living a simpler life and much happier as a result. Showing that the material things society pushes you to wanting so you can be happy are pointless and only a healthy mindset and active self betterment make you happy.

When you factor in Secretariat, and how much Bojack idolized him to the point that DECADES later when he was in his own mind Secretariat was his father. It's kind of ironic that he holds such a strong attachment to a celebrity yet criticizes others for doing the same. He never stopped to consider that he was somebody's Secretariat bc I don't think he could see his own worth.
