I don't know if you know this but that line from Cap about Tony being a futurist is pretty goddamn smart. Futurism is an Italian art and social movement, one that is mostly about modernising, yes, but it has an incredibly dark underbelly because Futurism became synonymous with Italian fascism in its later periods. Futurism wasn't only about modernisation it was specifically about taking a break from traditional values. The movement's aesthetic principles became intertwined with the political goals of fascism, emphasizing violence and destruction. so a lot of later Futurism art is actually Italian fascist propaganda, I mean a lot of them literally have Mussolini's face plastered on it. So of course when Captain America, the poster child for fighting against fascism, reads about Tony being a futurist and IMMEDIATELY has a problem with it.
@NerdilyDone9 ай бұрын
I appreciate this comment. I especially like how you distinguish facism from conservatism. Conservatism IS traditionalism, varying per country because all countries don't have the same traditions. Fascism is a form of socialism, and socialism, particularly as it was manifested in the 20th century, is modernism, or at least the vigorous pursuit of what it believes to be modernism.

Tony's "I'm a futurist" tirade made him really annoying as far as I'm concerned. Like, the dude was genuinely distraught that a future man's technology from the future is much more advanced than his from the present, sending him into a spiral because "he's a futurist, he's supposed to look to the future and make it" and it feels like the show wants us to sympathise with him. When to me, that just makes me think that Tony is a whinny little btch with the most first world problem a trust fund baby billionaire like him can have: not being the smartest man in the room or able to comprehend future technology

I think Chris Evans was a good casting choice for the kind of Captain America that they wanted MCU Cap to be. It always helps to remember that these are technically different characters then theie comic counterparts, and Chris did bring home a slightly softer and kinder Captain America that plays in a bit more into the inherent akwardness of being a fish out of temporal water.
@draketheduelist9 ай бұрын
Pros and cons. The fish out of water angle the MCU took mostly played on a comedic angle, probably because that's the direction Whedon and Favreau went. It's not like MCU Cap had _no_ moments. The elevator fight in CA:WS comes to mind, as does _most_ of that movie, really. EMH Cap instead highlighted the tragedy of Cap's displacement, particularly relevant to the Winter Soldier. The cosmic cube arc ended on a particularly gut-wrenching bit of fridge logic. And of course, "I can't imagine a world that's changed so much still needs 'Captain America'." A little on the nose, but Cap is talking like he thinks of himself as just a brand to be used, not a person. There's definitely some meta commentary in there somewhere, especially during a point in media analysis where pure paragons were considered hokey and uninteresting.

(*squeal*) He's doing it! He's doing it! EMH! I _really_ get what you mean about the super-tight serialization. Especially when you tend to focus on individual messages, which are more conveyed through story arcs that weave in and out of individual episodes (more like an anime, actually), so it can be hard to find something with a good payoff. The "Gamma World" two-parter is an excellent example, serving as a conclusion to Hulk's early arc of coming to trust Banner and the Avengers. Arguably the entire first _season_ is a Thor arc. Honestly I heavily prefer this method, as it holds up better to binge-watching than DC, which can sometimes feel atomized and disconnected, in part creating the "Ditch Continuity" joke. Also, the "lessons" are more for the characters themselves, with their real life applicability being fairly limited or personal. Others that might fit your style include Panther's Quest, Powerless, Behold the Vision, Yellowjacket, Private War of Doctor Doom (especially since Doctor Doom gets _so few_ good adaptations, and this is one of them), and arguably the best episode of the series, Prisoner of War.

This is a perfect example of how Cap and Iron Man have different values, but they share the same ideals. Tony is a very idealized version of late-stage capitalism. That being, despite his capital ownership being high to the point of absurdity, his morals and lessons revolve around being worthy of owning his assets as well as using them as a means and not an end. Meanwhile, Steve is an idealized version of traditional American values. That being a hard-working humble man whose motives align strictly around doing the right thing for its own sake. Despite both of them being on near opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of how they view the world, what makes them such strong friends and allies is their agreed sense of duty and morality. Something that Civil War irreperably damaged regarding the characters.

I see where he's coming from, but I don't agree. Evans is overall a very good cap who convinces me he is who he's acting as. It's not all his credit, as the writing is also important, and Cap has had some of the most consistently good writing of the MCU for his character. But that's okay. We can disagree on this.
@oz_jones9 ай бұрын
@@bthsr7113IDK, Evans always felt... off to me. He gets Steve Rogers part down pat, but the Cap lacks... something. Just like Christian Bale is probably the best Bruce Wayne we're ever going to get but his Batman is awful. But I know I'm in the minority here.

EMH was probably my favorite superhero show for a while and the fact that Disney killed it for a more MCU style series was a crime. Also I agree about Cap’s voice. I feel that this series ended so abruptly. There were quite a few subplots that were neglected, such as Hank Pym's successor as Ant-Man, Scott Lang, or even the fate of Amora the Enchantress. We never learned what happened to her subsequent to her mind control. Even Surtr was teased as the next major threat only for the series to end with the heroes banishing Galactus to an alternate realm. In my opinion it was incredible but suffered quite a bit. A splendid show: 8.5 out of 10.
@collegerebel8 ай бұрын
Because it did. It was supposed to have a third season, but the Avengers movie came out in 2012, made bank, so Disney/Marvel decided to cancel this and make Avengers Assemble, which had the exact same initial roster as the movie, to create synergy between the movies and cartoons. So EMH got cancelled and they show-runners rushed the finale.
@michaelandreipalon3594 ай бұрын
This. A very good reason why I still fervently enjoy the DC Comics cartoons from B: TAS to The Brave and the Bold is because they at least ended their runs in the best way possible, with even the loose ends not being quite big enough to want tying up even in side material. EMH is great, but it ending things with so many annoying Gordian knots... that's disheartening, but thankfully not as bad as The Spectacular Spider-Man being half-finished.

There was a phrase I grew up with when doing anything. In particular, I learned it while working in a lumber yard. "We learn the basics, not because they are easy, but because they are essential. Without the basics, you won't adapt and advance in the direction you need to go to grow." Everything starts from somewhere, so it's nice to see people take that lesson to heart in fiction IMO. Definitely will find a way to watch this show. Looks a lot of fun.

I think that the main issue with Humanity is that we need to learn the same lessons. Our tribalist nature makes us easily divided as US vs THEM is what kept us alive. However, that we are innately selfless/compassionate and we propagate stories of heroes and demigods who ask us to reach for a better world.

As far as I can tell eating raw eggs comes down to time, you don’t have time to cook the eggs. But naturally you would just get up earlier or not eat eggs raw. You won’t get sick by doing it but your body might reject it by making you gag because you are eating a raw egg.

If only current day DC and Marvel didn't hate each other's guts. Imagine a crossover film between this incarnation of the Avengers and the DCAU's Justice League, with both shows' original voice casts reprising their roles. But, Kevin Conroy's gone, and both companies are still being run by buttheads. And this is why toys and fan fiction exist. So that we can make our dream projects happen in one way or another.
