Probably one of the worst things is how Jenn responds to getting her powers. In the comics she LOVED having powers. As a human she was shy, self concious, had an inferiority complex and basically was a mess. Once she got her power she finally felt confident in herself, was able to appreciate who she was and that she was a genuinely likeable person and most important while she was grateful to Bruce for giving her said powers, she still understood that she lucked out in getting a weaker, more controllable Hulk transformation Bruce would've likely given anything to have and was very understanding and compassionate towards Bruce, always being there to give him a hand, a shoulder to cry on and an ear to listen to. You truly believed they loved each other as family members should, which makes how this Jen acts towards Bruce, not just a slap in the face, but a cement covered fist to the jaw by Mike Tyson. If I was Bruce, I'd have told this Jen to fuck off

I just love how Cosmonaut suggests that She-Hulk is barely antagonistic towards men, when the clip of her calling her suicide survivor cousin who was hunted by the military for a major portion of his life, a b*tch who doesn’t know what struggle even means because he’s a guy, was the clip Marvel used to PROMOTE the show. So true. A great example of an excellent strong female character is Samantha carter from Stargate SG1. she doesn't overshadow anyone else in the main cast, but she brings something real and appreciated not only to the social dynamics of the team but the practical stuff too. She's the scientist! The egg-head! the techie! The one to bounce techno-babble around the room with other scientist characters and most of the time she delivers a jab to other characters (who arent villains) it's done in a very "banter between friends" kinda way. She's not the powerhouse, that's Teal'c. She's not the leader, that's Jack (though she is very much second in command), she's not the moral centre sacrificing themselves to save everyone else, that's Daniel. Each have a part to play and none blot out the others. She doesn't push others down so she can stand on top of them, she build herself and others up, and they in turn build themselves and her up in a healthy dynamic. Fuck I love stargate.

"I can totally control my anger" she says after nearly killing some guys the night before for catcalling her and being a bit pushy. Later on I'm pretty sure she makes fun or mentions all his trauma in a derogatory way as if the fact that it still effects him is his fault and not because he's deeply scarred by traumatic events and tried to self delete himself. Has her life ever been so bad that she tried that? Nope. She lives a privileged life as a lawyer in an expensive apartment and is somewhat attractive but can't find a guy to date because her writers wrote all the guys to be misogynist or incompetent. Honestly a lot of modern media that's supposed to be for modern feminist audiences are just misandric for the sake of propping up the female lead because they don't know how to show a strong female character without putting down the male characters. The show also clearly disregards plot points that it set up previously, like only very specific people can get Hulk powers due to their specific genetics, and yes they do mention that there's a chance other people can use the blood to get powers but some random guy who-as far as i know-isn't even an established character in Hulk or She-Hulk's roster is not the exception to make. I'm sorry but this show knows nearly nothing about She-Hulk's character and the writers literally said they used their own experiences to come up with ideas for the show. Yeah She-Hulk is a bit of a badass, but she's also kind. She helps others and does her job well without constantly making fun of others. Jen was originally much like her cousin in her Hulk form, being ill-tempered and even violent (although with more self-control). With time, however, she became a fun-loving, kind, empathetic, yet still feisty woman who frequently uses humor when fighting. She's is also known for charitable works related to her own mistakes and actions, such as the disaster relief organization she aided after almost destroying a small town in her savage form. Jennifer has at times become dependent upon her powers, viewing her She-Hulk form as being better and more truthful to who she is than that of Jennifer Walters, and opting to remain transformed as much as possible.

Its a release of your inner self, specifically who you want to be. Apparently Jennifer Walters was one of those women who never felt like a woman. Between no self confidence and no male attention, She-Hulk represented who Jenn wanted to be. I once saw a panel where she was coming down from a proper hulk rage in the woods, and Bruce was there to help. He almost collapsed from guilt, thinking he ruined her life. Even as she was coming down from her rage, she took the time to hug him and tell him he saved her. She loves her life as she-hulk. Cosmonaut saying the Daredevil depiction was how Matt genuinely is makes me wonder if he actually watched the Netflix show. Dude would not sleep with a woman he met a day before. Everyone thinks the sleeping itself is the problem. It's not. It's that Matt has a very distinct character based on a specific moral system, and even if he hooks up with someone (like elektra for instace) it's not done flippantly, nor does it move that fast. "the show focuses on her negative qualities and acts like they're fine" THIS is the problem I have with... almost every show I have a problem with. To have a story, you need rising actions and themes. to have a character that works well with rising tension and themes, they need to have flaws or internal struggles consistent with them. to have an internal struggle, you have to color something they do or think as bad. You inherently HAVE to take a stance on something to write a good story. there is literally no excuse when a show has a character act like a monster and pretend nothing they did was bad but still wants the luxuries of portraying them as a hero protagonist with all the plot protection and victories over immoral enemies or concepts that come with the package. If you want your character to be a bad person but never improve, then write like it. be self aware instead of being so fucked up in the head in real life that you see your evil protagonist as being a good person. then i can TRUST you as the writer to actually take the character somewhere compelling. that's all i ask.

An example I can give you was in his Star Wars prequel video where one of his critiques for Attack of the Clones was him believing that Palpatine sending Dooku sending Jango sending Zam to kill Padme was ridiculous. In reality, having a spiderweb of people to follow to get to Palpatine makes sense as you’d want to make it as hard as possible to track down the person calling the shots. The correct criticism for this scene is that the droid Zam sent should’ve been equipped with laser blasters and when found it shouldn’t direct itself back to her. Cosmonaut didn’t pick onto this.

One nice detail about this Collab is that the two's avatars actually react in real time to what the other is saying. Sure, a lot of Collab videos have the occasional joke, but the avatars often ONLY change when that one joke happens, or when that specific person is talking. Seeing Shady look at Robot, only to look at us and then back at him in a double take when Robot is going off is quality stuff. Props to the editors for this vid, and I hope more Collab vids happen!

I don't watch much of Cosmonaut's videos, but my god his video was terrible. The problem with a lot of these She Hulk defenders is that they either just straight up accept what the show tells them without any question, or they act like it's perfectly fine to disrespect and be awful to men because awful men exist in real life, not realizing that being biased against someone solely for their gender IS THE LITERAL DEFINITION OF SEXISM. And CM does both. It's not the worst pro She Hulk video I've seen, but it's still an incredibly boring and mediocre video that undersells the flaws of She Hulk in order to either have a contradictory opinion or to berate people who upset the majestic brand. It's so awesome to see you two team up to trash this vid.

Unlike She-Hulk, here's an example of a well written and LIKABLE strong female character. Samantha carter from Stargate SG1. she doesn't overshadow anyone else in the main cast, but she brings something real and appreciated not only to the social dynamics of the team but the practical stuff too. Likable, well written strong female characters are 100% possible, but the thing is, before her being a strong female character, she needs to be a well written character.

100% agree, especially the sentiment regarding the characters needing to be well written. Babylon 5 is another show that had a fantastic array of well written characters. In terms of female characters, Delenn and Susan Ivanova. Delenn was probably one of my favorites, because of the fact that she went through a both literal and figurative transformation as a character from first seeing her in the original movie, all the way to the last season.

I completely agree, and it’s so fitting I found this comment as I’m currently rewatching SG-1 on Prime Video and just finished the episodes where they met the Tok’Ra, it really shows how despite being a tough military woman Sam still has her soft spots as she desperately works to convince her father to accept a symbiote and even defies orders from her commanding officer to protect him. Sam was an amazing character and worked so well with the others who were equal as well written

15:51 Everyone criticizes She-Hulk and how they depict the character but for some reason everyone also loves the Wonder Woman movie when it has the similar flaws?? They both have no arcs and no struggle, no consequences to anything they do, nepo babies when it comes to powers, and have no personality. The only difference imo is that Wonder Woman's movie was actually just revolving around that pilot guy instead of her, because he's the only one who got an actual arc and motivation while she was his manic pixie dream girl with the single voice line of "we need to stop ares" that he could put on a pedestal. She-Hulk felt worse because there was no forefront character to follow like the pilot, it's just the badly written character with no arc or struggle and nothing to distract you from it.

As an actual fan of the She-Hulk comics and a person who has collected the line for a while I'm willing to put forth my opinion. This is not a faithful adaptation of She-Hulk. The vast majority of the points are an antithesis to She-Hulk. At least the one that's represented in the comics. I don't know what they think they adapted. That's so perfect. First of all, her origin story was much more epic. Jennifer was going after the mob as a lawyer trying to take them down. They ended up shooting her. Her cousin Bruce was the only person around with a blood type similar to hers. He didn't like it but it was the only way to save her life. So he gave her a transfusion voluntarily of his own free will trying to save her life. That's the first point where they screwed up her first transformation was in the hospital bed. When some goons came in to finish the job, she turned into She-Hulk and kicked their collective butts. When she saw her cousin Bruce again he apologized over and over for this curse that he put upon her. She calmed her cousin down and told him she was grateful for the new power she had that she loved her new self. Then she said words antithetical to everything this actual piece of maggot ridden swine excrement held the character up to. Jen said I will never be a victim again. She was strong in character and in purpose. There are some things that they got right. Jen had control of her mind almost immediately. That is completely comic accurate. Also, that whole yoga pose thing is technically comic accurate as well. She hulk has always been more agile than the hulk as well as the fact that she was good at self-control hulk's advantage over hers that he was stronger and more durable. It is my personal opinion, although this is not completely backed up that Jen is a better fighter in terms of raw skill because she needed to be to deal with individuals that had more raw strength. Hulk with most of the time just swing haymakers because that worked. I know that there were some books called The Savage She-Hulk where her mind denigrated but I do not know of any references where she had the special ability that Bruce did where the matter she got the stronger she got. Although it may be in there at some point. I do have some parts of the history that I have not collected. In the point where he threw a rock and then she threw a rock and it was further. He did the basic motion of putting up a shot like a basketball and she heaved it like a shot put. Of course the boulder she threw went further. She put at least five times as much effort into it. Jennifer didn't denigrate Bruce. She loved her cousin. About the only people she did denigrate were actual villains although there was the occasional creep. Jennifer, love to flirt and show herself off though there were limits. Jennifer was an amazing lawyer and eventually got to the point where she became a judge. In the comics, Jennifer did break the fourth wall. This was an ability that actually was given to her by the person in charge of the book. There was even one time where the head author called into Jen and said asked her to make the book herself cuz she was sick. Jennifer was a happy nuanced amazing character with an excellent sense of humor and a love of people, not just some people. Calling that imposter a true adaptation of she hulk is an insult to a real strong female character.

Jennifer's hulk strength doesn't grow as her emotional state intensifies, but it does work as a multiplier for her base strength, and so she can get exponentially stronger as she-hulk by getting stronger as Jennifer. A nice way to balance the two I think her base strength multiplier is slightly higher than Hulk's, but his strength grows as he gets angrier, so he can overtake her multiplier

I have seen a lot of Cosmonauts videos and have enjoyed them. He seems to have lost the plot on this one. Many people speculated She-Hulk was going to a courtroom centered series. Maybe Jen defending heroes that didn't sign on for the registration act. The showrunners had no idea what to do, so they tried to do a little bit of everything, and they did it as poorly as possible. That head writer from R&M stated she planned to create the series just to "own the haters." She admitted they purposefully sabotaged it. If I ran a studio, I would never hire her because of that.

On the catcalling note. As a female that has been cat called quite a fair bit it really doesn't make me angry. Depending on who does it and what their age is then i might be slightly uncomfortable, but not angry. No one ever actually means anything harmful or mean about it, its all a bit lighthearted fun for them or they genuinely think its a complement, and sometimes it is. Trust me, you don't know confidence until you've tried having children shout complements at you (ususlly it's my hair) as you cycle past. (im a teenager btw). But it's also sometimes a bit of fun for you because it gives you a chance to act playfully sassy and be all "oh i know". And for the times it does make you uncomfrtable, that's it. It doesn't make me angry, only uncomfortable, nothing more nothing less, but not enough for me to rant about it to someone or use it as a point like a cretin who doesn't know how to take a joke or know when something is actually a serious matter.
