It came out really cute, but just some info because I saw you get scared lol hair color isn’t like bleach, it doesn’t keep lightening, it stops working after about 40 minutes. So she could’ve done the brown and light blonde color at the same time

Fun fact- some* natural hair folks can use box dye/permanent hair dyes to lighten their hair- esp pourous, light or fine haired naturals. (insert hair chemistry chat here lol) basically using the developer/peroxide to lift is enough- we dont need to bleach at all, and probably is better for our hair. I went to lightest ash blondes from my natural color easily-in one process, HOWEVER-my natural color is light ash brown. Your hair is much darker so this is really cool to see it work! I love it - looks great on you too! :)

Licensed hairstylist and cosmetology teacher here. First thing first your hair looks great. 🥰 But second your roots turned brown because you mix 20 volume developer and 40 volume developer together which maybe makes 30 volume developer. 30 volume gives you 2 3 levels of lift which is why your roots turn brown. Next time Tone with a 10 volume developer and you won’t have to worry about any extra lift.

I dye my own hair sometimes and ombre is too much work since it will grow out fine and even anyway. I have used hair paint and black hair spray in the past if my roots were too light for my liking. It's only a couple of weeks of light roots. I wouldn't go through the trouble of actually dyeing the roots black.

You could have used a purple shampoo to tone it instead of those additional steps of chemicals...but it still turned out cute! Just make sure you use treatments and conditioner to keep it strong and from breaking

anytime your hair goes from light to dark, even if it’s box dye, the product has some type of bleach/peroxide. you can’t get lighter hair without it.

I think it turned out so great! I'd only say she should try to move faster next time or you do back half first, time it then wash then repeat for the front so you don't risk uneven coloring.

Just a heads up when you use box dye it’s not bleach it depositing color and so if it was turning light brown that was just the color setting in and wouldn’t have been orange it would have been the color on the box. Bleach is what takes color out and that’s why black turns copper and orange. Also toner is used for bleached hair not dye and lucky enough your hair didn’t fall out. The toner you used also is meant for level 10 pale yellow hair and it suppose to be for ash blonde sliver color. Frankly you didn’t need toner because that is a bleaching agent which is why your roots are lighter.
