Muireann playing an arrangement of the title song from Elizabeth Cotten's 1967 Shake Sugaree album.
Elizabeth's 12 year old grandaughter Brenda Evans provided the beautiful vocals on this song.
Muireann's version is based on Stefan Grossman's fantastic fingerpicking arrangement from his 1972 album Hotdogs but with a few little tweaks to the guitar part & lyrics & a couple of extra guitar breaks.
Played on a Collings Waterloo WL-S Deluxe Stella style ladder braced parlor guitar.

Having watched all of Muireanne's videos now I'm totally blown away by her performances and I sincerely hope she can find a producer/manager/recording contract or whatever it may be that allows her to develop and allow her to have a career in music. I can't believe this person exists! Voice is modern yet sturdy, clear, and not sappy and overwrought like so many today taking on older style. Guitar playing is very good and getting better; this stuff is not easy. I hope to hear a full length someday--would happily donate to a fundraiser for a recording, consider it y'all!

I messed up in so many places in this one. I love Elizabeth’s music too I think I’m probably going to post my version of Freight Train next, it’s a really fun song to play & sing & much easier than this which is a lot harder than people think to sing & play together. I know I didn’t do a great job of the vocal on this but it’s very tricky to make it sound good & sing at the same time, much harder than anything else I’ve posted including Police dog blues which everyone thinks is impossible but I actually found pretty easy, not that my video of that is perfect either. Hope you have as much fun with shake sugaree as I had! ☺️
