Hi from Bermuda! Brilliant editing style with the shots of espresso, which made me laugh. First time I went to Portugal it was the same. So glad you are back and on a bike. You need Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres. No more punctures, I think they do them in 25C width. At least in Spain it isn't so cold so you don't have to carry so much stuff to keep you warm and bike packing is an option.

Nice trip! I could see that you can't live without a café con leche anymore! Just an advice, try the conti's Gatorskin ones or the Schwalbe marathon supreme, ride well and have extra puncture resistance. Tested the marathons on a bikepacking trip around Corsica and Sardinia quite loaded and got no flats in 1500 km so far ;-)

Thanks! They were just old tyres. I'm running tubeless now and never looking back!

It looks like a great tour. Thanks for sharing your experience! It's a good motivation. I am looking forward to do longer rides myself. Can you tell me which clip-on aero bars you use?
@JennyTough_6 жыл бұрын
Hey Norbert, thanks! I can't seem to find a link to my aero bars as I bought them a while ago. All I would say is that the ones I used before were the cheapest ones on amazon (I know, I know), and they melted in the Italian 40degree heat last summer. They really help with comfort (hands!) and of course picking up pace on those long, long roads. Good luck with building up your mileage! :)

Thank you for sharing Jenny, awesome ride and great video. You obviously love your coffee, don't you? I have been wondering for several years if tri handlebars would be of some help for long distance bike packing. How did it work for you? Thank you for sharing. For puncture prevention - Panaracer TserV PT for Messenger and RhinoDillos tyre liner, did 2,800 Km across Northern Thailand mountains in January on some rough roads, not a single flat.
@JennyTough_6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comments! The tri bars are great for relieving your hands when doing long days, where you can get handlebar palsy. It's also pretty comfy to get tucked in a go a little faster, and the biggest bonus is it gives you somewhere to put a baguette :).

U crazy? Clinchers are most relyable.. in any way. U can trust those.. nomater how much they got punctured.

And what stoppes you carrying one or two spare tubes when bikepacking with a tubeless setup?
@danielashleybaker6 жыл бұрын
Aiaiaii z tubeless are clinchers. They just don’t have a tube and have sealant. As Zsolt points out, you can always put a tube in if things go south.

What terrifies you? Ive been for a few bike adventures in Europe and Ive not had any bad experiences with people (face to face or in cars). Jenny have you considered tubeless, they will stop normal punctures but if you really damage the tyre you can still put in an inner tube or would that cause other issues? (Nice ride by the way👍).
@JennyTough_6 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, yes I have considered tubeless. Tyre options on a road bike are still relatively limited - do you have any brand recommendations?

Excellent editing and cuts. Pretty much every video of yours is an instant watch. As for the shakedown on the tires, maybe evaluate tubeless?
@JennyTough_6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! :). I'm definitely evaluating tubeless. My rims are compatible. Tyre options on a road bike are still relatively limited - do you have any brand recommendations?
@tymbrimi06 жыл бұрын
Jenny Tough I think there are a lot of good tubeless choices (I use WTB fwiw). Given your rampant wanderlust, I’d suggest getting something you know you can get on and off your rims without undue hardship or delay. I found the PathLessPedaled video was pretty helpful in giving me a bit of wisdom: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h2aylIyGh9Gqobc

Hiya Jenny, found this through twitter lnk. would you be able to do a wee vid on your bike set-up? I need to know how you charge your gadgets if you're sleeping rough? Portable Solar panels would be good in Spain but shite in Fife.
@JennyTough_6 жыл бұрын
Hey Gordon - I'll try to get around to it! On this adventure I had a battery pack and a multi-port usb charger, and as soon as I stopped for coffee I plugged in my devices to charge while I was there. In less populated areas, a dynamo is usually the answer. Bike lights take a lot of energy.

Congrats on all your adventures - you're a strong rider! One suggestion, if I may: double check your seat height - it seems way too high, imo. I noticed several times in the video your leg is fully extended/locked out. Actually, you can see this in the title page/cover shot for the video itself: your right leg is fully extended and your toe in pointed down - a sign that your body is having to reach too far at the bottom of the stroke. I watched the video again: look for leg extension at 1:02, 2:42, 2:50. Also, your pelvis rocks side to side - another symptom of a seat too high. Look for pelvis tilt at 19sec, 32, 1:02, 2:43. I rode with my seat too high for a while - it irritates things around the knee. Anyway, maybe have a bike-fitter or trainer check it for you (or find the formulas based off pubic bone height online). Just suggesting so you keep cranking away w/o injuring anything. Best wishes.
