I’ve had the 4’6” rod for years. I actually bought it as a combo and loved it for years. The original reel died only a few weeks ago. I just paired it with a Sienna 500, also budget priced but AWESOME, and love it. I’m not a pro but I recommend pairing these up for an affordable entry into light fishing. My son got a nice 2lb Smallie this season with my setup. Dude, love your channel.

Found this video and yes it's a budget steal for ultralight fishing. I've had a couple and use them for a year or so and find someone getting into fishing that has a tighter budget and give it to them. I usually pair it with the Shakespeare micro series reel and it's perfect for throwing small lures and float fishing. I had no complaints and if I lost all of my gear tomorrow I might start off again with one of these. Thanks for this video Ethan

I’ve been fishing my whole life (bass angler) and as long as I can remember; like since buying my own rods as a kid, I’ve always carried this micro series rod with me, my fav is the 5’6 and I throw it with a 500 shimano spinning reel. I’ve broken every one I’ve owned and i literally start to miss em until I go and grab another. It just covers all of my light Arsenal in one little rig. Glad to others benefit and share the magic this rod has brought hundreds of anglers. I’ve got a 4lb largemouth bass using 2# test with a jr fluke as my PB on the micro

Surprisingly the i have had Shakespeare micros for over ten years still in service. The blanks seem to be tough. I have yet to break one. Steer away from quantum ultralight rods. I have broken many. I really like the lews ls750 combo at WM. It is very durable and fun to fish for $30. I prefer making my own rods on phenix mirage and elixir blanks. Very pricey but so worth it with a minima guide set

This video is a microcosm to me of what fishing is all about. I used to fish the mountains of NC for trout when I was in college at Western Carolina and got hooked (ahem) after being introduced to Ultralite tackle. I'm obsessed with catching small fish now on Roosters, Panther Martins, Beetle spins, etc. where I live now more towards the RDU area where there's more crappie, panfish, bass, etc. It's just so fun! I'm going to try the setup you have as well with the micro jig. Of course, catching big bass and Catfish are fun, especially when it means you have enough food to feed yourself or some family, but there's just something so primal about walking a creek or lake trail and doing what you're doing. Nothing like it.

I love it! You hear fishermen talk about sensitivity in a rod and why it's worth it to pay more for that sensitivity, but that little darter puts the lie to that idea. The fact that you felt that little beastie and set the hook pretty much does it for me RE expensive rods. I have no doubt that a finer made rod has lots of advantages and is very fun to fish with, but I'm not worried that my old Shakespeare Ranger poles , or the more current budget rods, lack enough sensitivity to cause me to miss anything that might be biting. If I miss it's because I'm not paying attention, not because the rod sucks.
@FishAnything
@FishAnything Жыл бұрын
Honestly for true ultralight fishing, the line makes a bigger difference than the rod for bite detection. I would rather buy top tier line and a mid range rod than a top tier rod and mid tier line

The 7 foot light action is what shines, I choose it over other rods I own. It great cause if it breaks I’m out 17 dollars. Glad to see you tried the micro light, even if it’s for the 4.6. The 7ft light is a game changer though. Side note; a aquarium with those gobies would be insanely cool. 30 gallon long setup like a stream with looped water flow from side to side. I wish I had some in my area.

I picked myself up one of these little Shakespeare combos from Walmart, and bought with it some jig heads, an in-line spinner, some small soft plastics from the clearance bin and a little crème crankbait and also got the insurance for the combo, and only spent $29, and I’ve caught fish using what I got so it was quite worth that little bit of money in my opinion 👀😅!! Though I still prefer my regular ultralight, if I’m being perfectly honest🤔… though the Shakespeare is still quite a fun little combo 👀!

Hope you get it replaced ok! And yeah storing gear in cars can be tricky but I always just put the rod butt in the passengers leg room and point the rod tips over the center console toward the back window. It works for me!

**Another update. I was able to glue another guide tip on the broken one. I put a Piscifun Viper X size 500 reel. Reel is only 5.4oz, caught more fish on that set up than any other. Great set up to leave the in car to go fishing on a whim.

Use these all the time and they are great for tossing in the back of a truck or fishing canals and muddy/sandy places you dont want to take your expensive gear! I have caught hige carp and gar on these as well as plenty of bass so you can finesse them in with time😅

Those things are great. I have 6 and broke 3. Love em. I can take em in my car. Pre rig them and switch up fishing or move to the next rod if I get hung up. Without spending time retieing everything back. Me and my daughter use the fire out of them. The push button ones break easy but they are worth it. Just keep the pole and buy a new reel. My favorite rods.

I've actually been using this one for awhile now and I've caught some pretty sizable fish in lakes with it. I originally bought it to be my, "I'm in the mood to fish. Rod and such are in the car. Let's go" sort of set up. But in time it has become my favorite to use, especially after I caught an 11 inch big mouth bass that was on the heavy side, and a 13 inch rainbow trout. I've now been bit by that ultralight bug and I'm ok with this :P

@@FishAnything Sweet. awesome stuff. I like the swivel idea to salvage the bobber. If you were to run a traditional fly on it, how deep do you typically keep it off the bottom? I'm going to try this when the water starts to get cold this year.

The UL rod I bought was around the same price. I got a Berkley Cherrywood and have the reel from my Shakespeare Dock Runner on it (replacing that). Honestly I wish the Dock Runner was an UL and not the medium that it is. But the Cherrywood is holding up fine so far, I've caught probably 30 fish on it in the few days I've had it. Biggest fish on it so far is a 7 or so inch red ear sunfish. Now that I'm addicted to ultralight fishing I want to get a few different combos for different things.

Out of the series of this rod the 5'6" two piece of this always seem to break in the same place. I believe it has to do with where the end comes together is too short & creates a high stress point. I've seen about 3-5 break all in the same place including the one I own did the same thing.

using one of these as a budget angler, and it is GREAT. i use it for micro fishing in the creeks and ponds around me... ive caught some pretty decent bass on it too! i think the biggest one was a 2lber, and man did it fight well on the rod. currently have mine paired up with a cheap spinning reel but im looking to upgrade to a shimano sienna or a pfluger in the near future. couldnt ask for more, since i got mine for ~11$ at walmart.
