Thanks Brian for taking it for a spin. Seeing you pilot this is always interesting because you make moves and board things in ways I never would. For example, with the exception of the Karnforge matchup (where I go up to the full 4 Consigns against the Vexing Bauble heavy deck), I never board out a Force, and even then it is usually a trim not cut situation. I'm gonna re-watch later and take better notes, but for now there's a Thanksgiving to prepare for. To that end, happy Thanksgiving to you, as well as anyone else reading this. Longer, more in depth comment coming after the holiday!

I have never played legacy or any other 1v1 eternal format before, but thanks to watching your videos for the past 2+ years I played canadian highlander (czech pile) for the first time at a local store and I was able to keep up with cards, take some solid lines, and win a few games! it was really fun being able to put all of this passively-learned knowledge into practiced skill. I really appreciate the way you explain your thoughts behind your actions, it really helped me build intuition for what I should be doing, even playing in a different format.

Love canlander! That’s my format of choice as well and I definitely agree with what you’re saying about the lines being applicable. Hit someone with a frog + goyf changing the p/t (card types) mid combat that I learned from watching bosh!

I was hoping, I would make the video. I've been testing with the food chain deck a ton it has so much value and synergy. Tons of fun to play. We named it "Static Snacks" in our playgroup.

@derekcline950Ай бұрын
I have always wondered which formats a pauper deck could beat. Probably Standard. Maybe Pioneer. I doubt Modern, though.
@DracomandriuthusАй бұрын
@@derekcline950Pauper can beat modern, but can't beat legacy. You'll have a rough matchup into most modern decks but some pauper decks are fast enough to just blitz under the modern decks- Pauper burn is a good example, since it just clocks it's opponent by turn 3 or so.

The first guy with the food chain deck is one of my friends, he plays it in paper as well. He calls it "static snacks" for reasons i've forgotten already but it's something along the lines of energy and also the raptor snacks on you or something...

I love to see a deck that is so well constructed that a lot of cards are 2 ofs or 1 ofs. Reminds me of my Undercards days (hearthstone clone, I only managed to get 1 meta deck published, but half the deck was really tuned to do broken stuff with 1 ofs and mulligans. It got nerfed immediately ater my second iteration)

34:52 would it be possible to cast shallow grave at their end step, so that your monster doesn't get exiled and you can attack with it on your turn or is that not how that works?
@Joe__LАй бұрын
Yes, it would work that way. However, FoN is a known card in hand, and while they can't pitch-cast it on their turn, giving the opponent a main phase to make a land drop and get to 3 mana makes it hard-castable. Getting the critter's effect successfully is worth more than exposing the spell to possibly not resolve at all for just the potential upside of connecting once.
@Ambushw23Ай бұрын
We need you do do a dimir midrange build with reanimator juke in the side board the opposite of what people do I think it will really mess people up
@samblood535029 күн бұрын
Intrigued that at 58:26 you tossed back 2nd Ponder over Ripples. If you find a second land but not a third off the 1st Ponder they could Wasteland leaving no follow up, but the 2nd Ponder could continue to dig even off of finding a single land. Is the upside of mayve getting Ripples in enough to offset that potential downside?
@Cowter429 күн бұрын
I'm sure Joe has tested it, but forg seems like a good way to turn the B's in your hand into 1's when they get stuck in your hand without a show and tell but with a reanimate effect. Maybe even just like 2
@Joe__L26 күн бұрын
Any creature that doesn't win the game is a huge liability with a Shallow Grave strategy. Imagine setting up your game winning line with Archon or Grizzledaddy or whatever, only to have your in-play Frog get get with Long Goodbye or something in response. You end up with a Frog on top of your yard, and that's what comes back. That's why there's no Brazen B as a generic bounce tool, and that's why we're on Surgical instead of Faerie. Harbinger is the only exception in the 75, and that's because there are a few matchups where you need to worry about staying alive long enough to put something together first (like Karnforge).

That ramble about AB/12 combo decks trips words when ya speak it. It's neat that Grisselbrand is payoff B in the hand but payoff 2 in the graveyard. It's a gamble if you wanna keep it on top with a surveil land and you have a brainstorm.
@DarkestFictionАй бұрын
At 25:51, they Wasted your Sewers. Why not float that mana and search an Island with Lorien? You're never casting it, and it shuffles up giving you fresh looks, as well as the land drop for the turn to possibly string something in. You might be giving up on the Omniscience with Forcing something, but doesn't it make sense to give yourself a chance to find the Show for Grisfather/Emmy if nothing else? It still maintains mana development as well. I understand the importance of Omniscience there, but being able to throw Emrakul or Gris (Lifelink is not irrelevant here) in and block might be worth that loss. At 7, you're basically dead as is, so using your life as that resource is your best bet.
@BoshNRollАй бұрын
It's my blue card for the Force currently in my hand and it's a huge payoff for Omniscience if Show and Tell resolves without needing Force.

Question: Why the 1st Prismatic Vista over the 3rd (and 4th) Polluted Delta? ..if i cause of Pithing needle like eff, or to hide the colours you might be playing ?
@Joe__LАй бұрын
The deck tends to prioritize basics anyway, and it is just a way of hedging against Surgical or Pithing Needle. A third Delta would almost always be functionally equivalent. There's also probably some value in this current meta to sometimes give the impression of a slow dopey control deck for a turn, but that's a secondary effect and not really an intentional consideration.

With the graveyard angle being more centered around Shallow Grave, critters that don't win the game on the spot come at a real cost. Imagine having a Frog on board, setting up a winning Griselbrand Shallow Grave line, and having the Frog Long Goodbye'd in response. Congrats on all that setup work, your reward is a stupid Frog. The only tech critter in the 75 is Harbinger of the Seas, and that is only for matchups where not dying on turn 2 is top priority.
