Paul, this is the single best golf tip video I have ever watched, and I've watched hundreds. Only your video clicked with me.... it was a eureka moment as I realized what I was doing wrong and what I needed to do. For the last three weeks I've been playing rounds and implementing your guidance from this video, and I've had a remarkable transformation. Finally, after many years of playing poorly, with a confused muddle of swing thoughts, I now can stand with confidence over all my shots and execute good ball striking in a consistent manner. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Paul! (I just deleted all my other golf tip videos... Yours is the only one in my playlist now... You're the best!)

@paulwilsongolf4 жыл бұрын
Dropping your hands is good if you do it slow but most don't. They keep doing it at top speed and keep sending it over the top because there is not enough time in the downswing to recognize if you dropped it or not. Just keep doing this daily. If so, you will train it to happen in your real swing.

Great lesson. Keep it simple. Not a 20 minute boring lesson. I own a golf course and that is the number 1 problem with older golfers, the dreaded over the top swing. I get them to stop the over the top swing but in know time, they are trying to swing harder and here it comes again, over the top! They get so frustrated that many end up quitting and selling their clubs. Remember, shorter lesson plans straight to the point will get you a lot more hits and fans. MERRY CHRISTMAS

Just got off the range following your practice routine. It is going to be a challenge to modify 60 years of flaws in my swing but you are making it easier. My lag is better, swing speed is faster, turning my hips, extending my follow thru and not worn out. Here is a suggestion. You need to make the next video and call it simplifying your swing. I used to have too many swing thoughts. The only one I have now is, TURN YOUR HIPS. Thank you.

Paul, Thank you! Went back to your neutral grip lesson yesterday as I had lost it along the way. Way more solid, I can't really move it either way which gives me confidence. However, I went to range last night as I had been slicing badly in my last round. With the new grip keeping clubface square but having the over the top swing (which has been the bane of my life), I was pulling the ball way left, so left, I went over net on left side of range. This is as devastating and demoralising on course as the slice, you hit the ball left on tree lined courses in southern England, you lose the ball. You can't play golf like this as your scores are ruined but more importantly, you lose any confidence you ever had. This is the drill I have been waiting for, it's simple, you can practice all the time at home to groove this move. Looking forward to next practice session, so thank you again

This tip makes a lot of sense. I struggle with over the top, pulling the ball more than I care to admit. I never slice or fade the ball so that tells me I'm squaring the club face at contact. Rarely I may draw the ball but almost pull the ball dead straight. I'm going to work on this drill till I puke. Thanks.
@paulwilsongolf Жыл бұрын
Simple to fix. This is you starting your arms first. This leans you left and you swing left. No joke in all of about 3 balls I could get you hitting it dead straight. This is one of your best, simplest drills. Got rid of my slice (most of the time), but most importantly, I know what is wrong when it comes back. Everyone has commented how straight I'm driving the ball now. Next challenge is to power up without losing the inside out swing so I can get better distance.
@paulwilsongolf3 жыл бұрын
Glad you liked it. You would power it up with legs and hips not the hands and arm but before you do that hook 10 in a row. Don't do that and you will push fade it.

Well I’m certainly pulling the ball left now, which I’ve never done before. Mainly longer clubs. Good news is that I’ve needed to back off one club on average. Bad news I’m off target. Gotta get the power and swing back in balance.

Sir, am I dropping the club in slot first by using right elbow before i shift forward with lower body ?
@paulwilsongolf Жыл бұрын
Well, you can do that for a bit to get the feel for it but that is using your arms. I would like your arms powerless coming down and through. So once you train the club to drop/shallow/flatten stop thinking about it. Start thinking about using your body to hit the ball. If you moved your body first with no arm strength the elbow would tuck without thinking about it. Watch: kzbin.info/www/bejne/maDKqplsis97bbc kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZOoXpuwib2ahNE This is kind of in line with what you are doing: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oqGkppp6q8aenLc

On the course you have one ball and you are trying to kill it. You know you can do it. How about starting out slow on the course 50% so you are doing it out there then gradually speed up. Funny how everyone always wants to swing at 100%. Watch: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nKaye6uslJdlfs0

I had an unconscious habit of slightly lifting my head in the downswing, which I believe is early extension. Once I concentrated on keep my head down or slightly lowering it in the transition, it cured a tendency to sometimes come over the top and get off plane. I also feel a better swing arc around a centered axis.

Hi Paul, in modern parlance this could well be a game-changer, thank you!! That said, if your trail elbow is made to go under your lead, wouldn't that open up the clubface? I'm perhaps referring moreso to irons here, but just thinking would you perhaps need to manipulate your wrists at contact in order to combat any open clubface? Hope I've explained this correctly.. Cheers Andrew
@paulwilsongolf4 жыл бұрын
This is the initial downswing of course you need to release the club. If your wrists are a hinge they would rehinge on their own perfectly. Think of a hinge and relate it to your wrists. This is what I teach. If you are still holding it open you purposely release until you eliminate slice spin on your shots. At this point you would switch to body rotation to straighten it out. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oIK9faNul6tgjdk kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5CyYXtohrN5pZI kzbin.info/www/bejne/jpyapWyvfaiCY6s kzbin.info/www/bejne/qYuVXpenhMaoqbc

Hi Paul, I have midsized grips on my clubs, but once I get to the top of my backswing I sometimes "let go" of the club. Should I go to standard grips ?
@paulwilsongolf3 жыл бұрын
That would be dependent on the size of your hands. I they are a little larger then midsize would be fine. If they are not and you are using midsize grips that could be an issue. What you really need to do is work on this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kGmuZHqZqdCtbaM

Hi Paul, happy New Year! I have been practicing at home your effortless golf swing since September last year. What i did with this one is drop the club about an inch after achieving the top of the backswing position totally hinged . Then I fire my hips to do the backswing. It seems it is producing a smooth swing as I can see the path of the golf club. Is this one way to shallow the club? Thank you

I have been working on your swing and I have a question. When starting down with the hip turn, is everything above the waist turned off? You talk about turning off the arms but what about the shoulders? Does the lower body "drag" everything above the waist through the ball and to the finish? Thank you. Also are there different feels or ways to get the hips through? I guess my question is, does standing on and straightening the front leg accomplish the same thing? I know at the top of the backswing with my hips turned back 45 degrees, when I straighten my front leg it turns my hips forward. Thank you again.
@paulwilsongolf4 жыл бұрын
Yes, you are not hitting or helping the shot with the arms. How? Just stand up. Turn your belt buckle right then left. Did your shoulders stay square as you did this? No. So yes, the lower drags the upper. Or the lower uncoils the upper. So stop thinking about your shoulders in the downswing. Yes, there are different ways to start down with the lower. I teach 6 triggers. Here is one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iJXTmaeeeLZsjK8 You need to fire the lower allowing the upper to tilt back as you do this. If you shift to the left too soon without this tilt you will send it over the top. Listen carefully to what I say in this tip: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZOoXpuwib2ahNE (accelerator on a car).

I've improved a lot on this item, but have a subconscious concern that the face won't have enuf time to square by the time it reaches the ball , when swinging correctly as Paul described here. With an over the top swing, it seems the club face always has time to square.

The dreaded slice! I think this isTHE worst confidence- ruiner shot in golf. I remember, when I started playing golf on a more regular basis, just thinking about teeing off & my pulse started to rise & my palms began to sweat. It truly seemed like I was cursed. I knew before hitting I was going to slice my drive (and by the way most of my other shots, including putting:) & at the same time taking a quick peek at the different land marks & types & shapes of the trees around where my ball would land at the right side of the fairway to facilitate my search afterwards! Everyone I played with tented to sliced a bit too, but mine were truly the best. No kidding, I've would have certainly be the employee of the month in a Kraft singles factory!! And the worse thing about it, is that I tried the best I could to try to cure it, but not knowing what move I was doing or wasn't doing right (if your a fan of water hazards & the greenskeeper make's you a comment like: 'hey, is that the new ball retreiver model everyone's talking about?' 'no, I just changed the grip on it, why?', there's a good chance you've been in slice city often :). When I got interested in PW's videos, I realized I was inconsciously doing mostly everything he prohibs when I swing : I was saying to myself 'I'll give it a good whack & swing the club as fast and hard as I can', hoping it would land as far as possible in the middle of the fairway. No wonder it took me about 3 seasons to break 100! After watching, practicing & learning some of Paul's drills, I better understood & had to admit to my self that I was swinging mainly with my arms & frequently comming over the top, wich would result in a positive spine angle at impact. I'll be perfectly honest to say that I wouldn't have never got this by my own & NO instructor I've ever paid told me nothing about my spine angle before. And especially showing me how to overcome it by practicing simple drills. Since a couple of months & at the risk of being peculiar, I'm swinging every day inside my house (in my kitchen). It might seem no big deal, but I'm already noticing changes, wich I hope will prove positives in my next golf season; I feel more comfortable & less anxious before swinging, more fluid & stable with my follow thru & finish and certainly swing with more confidence. My drill is mainly based on the gripping-down-hinge-rehinge technique (see PW ' how to hit your irons pure') wich I experimented on a driving range & combining it with looking at the path of the club in the strike zone. I use a 9I (so I don't take a chunk off the ceiling or counter) & concentrate on my grip (hinge & rehinge), doing full swings (not mini- swings like some may think). I aligned my self with the wood boards of the floor. If I had a basement, I would simply put a piece of tape & mark a dot with a sharpie to simulate the ball position. I do 6 or 7 swings each time, maybe 4 to 5 times a day. Recently, I noticed it takes me only 1 ou 2 swings to correct my club path with out really thinking about it. I even try to swing the fastest I can & try staying stable. Frankly, I don't understand why I swung the way I did before? My realistic goal for the next season is to play in the high 80's, low 90's more consistently. And if I ever get to break 80, I will owe it to PW's tips & drills. Thank's again for the great tips!

Nice one. A lot of people are in this situation. You decided to do a little work though and you are now going to start really improving. Curing slices is easy. 10mins. if you were standing here in front of me. Keep doing the practice swings indoors daily to ingrain it. Next season should be your best. @@paulwilsongolf How I wish you were right about the next golf season! As for my drives, I've improoved alot since that time & now I mostly consider this situation with a touch of humor.
