Thank you for introducing Mr Yau, the Umbrella retailer in Sham Sui Po. When we are able to travel again (I am from Perth WA) I would definitely return to HK & bring along my sentimental umbrella for repair. I kept the umbrella for more than 30 years, looking for someone to fix it & now I found the man! Thanks Sam 😘. I appreciate his thoughts about landfill & waste 👍🏼. Keep up the great work Sam & looking forward to more episodes. Happy New Year 🐯🧨🧧

We have been to Hong Kong and did the usual tourist stuff --- The Peak Tram, Star Ferry, Ocean Park, Stanley Market, etc. We certainly didn't visit a vinyl collector, or an umbrella repair person, or dine on street food. I suspected we missed a lot and your videos confirmed this. May be worth another trip (if only to dine on egg and corned beef sandwiches)! Great videos, professionally edited and produced (as expected).

Thanks for watching and for the great feedback. HK is an incredibly diverse city with so much (touristy and otherwise) to see, do and taste. I do love the well-travelled paths like the Peak Tram etc, but indeed there's a lot more here too. Maybe on your next visit you can get stuck into the street food here, definitely recommend the egg and beef sandwich! :)

Love the Umbrella uncle! The way he spoke, the tone, the voice, reminds me of my late grandfather. He passed away quite a few years ago at the age of 100. He escaped WW2 as a kid and travelled to Malaysia from Guangdong. I'm proud to say that I'll shake shake shake my umbrella before opening hahahaha! Now that HK has opened up fully, I'm thinking of planning a trip to HK again and will want to visit Sham Shui Po as I have not been to this area in all my previous trips. P.S. I'm from Singapore :D

It would be a crime not to appreciate this beautiful journey of Sham Shui Po. We are getting to see the true Hong Kong colors and not the usual glossy and artificial stuff which is good for tourists. For people like me who want to see a country from a local person's point of view, these are highly educating and informative. Yau Yiu Wai is yet another passionate Hong Konger who reflects the true HK spirit and hats off to his concern about recycling and to reduce wastefulness. On a lighter note, I wonder if Sam understands Cantonese or the subtitles are added later by his fellow videographer.

Thank you as always for your very kind feedback Satish, it really feels great to know that these videos are giving a good message and are providing inspiration! I certainly do urge you to visit and check out these places when travel is back up and running- I'm sure you'd love them! Yau Yiu Wai was indeed so passionate and dedicated to what he does- a great character with great values and a very inspiring person to talk to! Finally, good question- I certainly don't understand Cantonese fluently yet (although I am in the process of learning), so my lovely partner Vienne helps me a great deal with translations in these interviews! :)

OMG....Im glad that I found this SSP video......My family used to live at corner of Pei Ho St and Lai Chi Kok Road (right across from Mr. Yau). I knew his father when he had the little misc store in the middle of Nam Cheong St (near Tai Nan St) over 50 years ago. My mother could not walk for long time, so she always asked Mr. Yau for a stool for her to rest for 5 mins before walking upstairs home. I will definitely visit Mr. Yau when I go back to HK in mid May. Thank you very much!!

Thank you for these videos highlighting the crafts, foods and especially the people. I know it seems I just repeat my comments over and over, but this again is a really interesting video with even more interesting people in it (besides you, Sam). I personally liked the umbrella guy best, he truly burns for his job. He basically IS his job. And again it wouldn't be me if I hadn't one little piece of critique, hehe. Maybe it's just me as well, but I personally didn't like the soundtrack too much, maybe it was too repetitive or a little too loud, I can't really tell. Maybe something slightly more uplifting than mysterious would've fitted well, too. However, as I already said, this is 1 of 100%. I really really enjoyed this two-parter. Stay safe and healthy!
