In reality they worked to help their neighboorhood, Canvas Street, by bringing packages and goods for those who couldn't permit it a la Robin Hood and that's why they were respected by the community of that area. Nekomata had to live as a stray for quite some time before joining their gang so I wouldn't be surprised if she used to steal and all to live on her own even before getting adopted, but unironically they were the ones who fleshed out her morality to help the weaks. The reason why she defected to begin with was because she didn't agree with their methods to get moneys anymore (like kidnapping people for ransom), despite still feeling vengeful when Silver got killed (I mean, in a way it's understandable, considering he was the closest thing to a father figure Neko probably ever had).

She's a cool girl, more of a gothic style, she likes rock and going out with friends, but she's very direct.
