연가시가 아닌 곤충살이선충입니다. 연가시와는 다르게 물을 고집하지 않고, 몸이 성숙해지면 숙주의 몸 구멍을 통해 나옵니다. 연가시는 오직 흑갈색으로 괜히 철사벌레라는 이름이 붙은 게 아닙니다. 선충류는 연구하시는 분이 매우 적고 어렵기도 하여 알려지지 않은 사실이 많다보니 헷갈리실만 합니다.

곤충살이긴선충과 연가시는 굉장히 유사한 생김새와 생태를 가졌지만, 체색 말고도 몇가지의 차이가 있어 그것으로 구별할 수 있으니 적어봅니다. 둘은 문부터 다른, 남남이라 봐도 무방한 관계가 아주 먼 종류입니다. 둘은 유체 시절에 생김새가 완전히 다른 것으로 구별이 되는데, 하나는 몸의 색, 또 하나는 신체의 단단함의 차이입니다. 곤충살이긴선충은 순백색이며, 몸이 연해 잘 찌그러지고 끊어집니다. 영상 5분 30초쯤 놈들을 핀셋으로 피는 과정에서 신체 일부가 쉽게 잘려나가는 점과, 몸이 쭈글쭈글하게 변형된 녀석이 있는 게 결정적인 증거가 되겠습니다. 반대로 연가시는 색이 흑갈색을 띠며, 밝은 색의 개체라 할지라도 커피색입니다. 그리고 몸이 단단해서 핀셋만으로 쉽게 끊어지지 않고, 알코올에 담가도 몸이 변형없이 멀쩡할 정도로 튼튼합니다. 연가시와 곤충살이긴선충의 생태는 거의 동일하다고 봐도 무방할 정도로, 둘다 깨끗한 민물에서 활동, 번식할 수 있습니다. 단지 차이점이라면 곤충살이긴선충은 축축한 곳이라면 육지도 가리지 않고 산란 장소로 삼는다는 점입니다. 때문에 흰색의 선충이 숙주와 함께 잎이나 돌에 붙어있는 사진이라면 그것은 곤충살이긴선충이라고 할 수 있습니다. 연가시는 완전한 물에 숙주가 뛰어들었다는 확신을 갖기 전까지는 나오지 않아서 엄한 육지로 튀어나오는 일은 잘 없고, 숙주를 버릴 결정을 하는데까지의 시간이 오래 걸린단말이죠. 선충은 연구자가 거의 없는데다가 모양, 생태가 비슷한 종들이 너무 많아 알려진 정보가 적고 오해하기 쉬운 것도 당연한 일입니다. 일본 따위의 생물학이 잘 되어있는 국가에서도 이들에 관한 논문은 정말 적어서 우리가 지금 구별해낼 수 있는 방법은 전술한 내용뿐입니다. 그나마 제가 국내 선충학 권위자이신 교수님 밑에서 선충학을 수강했던 것이 이런 곳에서 도움이 되는 것에 감사할 뿐입니다.

Mantises should be fine. They are often infected, but eating one won’t infect them. The worm needs to lay its eggs in the water, and those eggs have to hatch into larvae that first need to find an intermediate host, like crickets and mosquitoes.

Yeah, I know Crickets can have a bad time with horsehair worms, as they are often its final host. I’m just happy Lime didn’t eat it, because something bad could have happened, who knows?@@derpychicken2131

There are quite a few kinds of worms that can infest humans. Myiasis is caused by fly larvae such as the human botfly, blowflies, etc. Taeniasis is an infection by a tapeworm, enterobiasis is from a pinworm, and dracunculiasis is from a Guinea worm. People tend to find things like horsehair worms, cordyceps fungi, and dicrocoelium worms more disconcerting because of their ability to enter and affect the brain. Unfortunately, we have those as well. The rabies virus and Naegleria fowleri, also known as the brain-eating amoeba, both have the ability to infect humans and target the brain, causing cognitive and behavioral changes. They're both almost a guaranteed death sentence as well. Nature is disturbing and unpleasant just as much as it can be beautiful and fascinating.

Parasites are actually very interesting and I found a parasite caterpillar a few months ago and there were flies in the caterpillar but I didn’t know so I decided to grow the caterpillar, and turned out that there were 3 flies born. Love how you always make my day Pleasebe. ❤❤❤

Wait I am confused, you didn't want the mantis to eat the horse hair worm when it was in the grasshopper. I thought it was bcz it would get infected if they ate it. But at the end you fed one to the mantis. So, you basically only stopped the mantis from eating the infected grasshopper to show us the horse hair worm and give us the information on it? If mantis eats the horse hair worm, there wont be any issues of being infected.?

연가시는 유명한 기생충이여서 수종생물이고 모기유충 ->모기 성장해서 다른 먹이감이 사냥을해서 강이나 바닷가 연못에서 발견할수도있고 연가시는 찾기도 힘든 유명한 희귀종입니다만약애 곤충이 몰로보고있다면 연가시 감염증상입니다 아마도 암컷이 임신해서 먹을뻔한건 큰일날뻔했네요^^ 행복하게 추석~!

it's actually fine if your pet eats the worm, it's just a worm. the dangerous thing is the worm's egg. but as long as the worm is still in the body of its victim, the worm hasn't reached maturity or ready to lay eggs. so it's just a clean worm.

@@익명-n9n 기생의 위험은 없어도 속이 썩어들어가는 상한음식수준은 됩니다. 우리도 과일 색깔만 보면 신선함을 알수가 잇듯이 사마귀도 본능적으로 알아볼 수 있는거라 생각해요.. 벌레먹은 사과 당신도 별로 식욕 안돌잖아요.. 근데 그 벌레가 나한테 기생의위험이 있는것도 아니거든요 그래서 육식성 곤충들은 비실비실대거나 안움직이는 벌레들은 아예 먹질 않아요.
