i am 74 - saw the movie when i was 4 or 5 - me my brother took turns being Shane & Wilson playing cowboys - every time Shane came back as part of a dbl. feature Dad took us - it was when i reached 7th Grade Hawthorne Jr. High Lorain Ohio - we were given paperback books to read - Shane was one of them - never knew it was a book - well it was different than the movie - then i went into school library - the hard cover book was there even was illustrated - i bet I've watched that movie 100 times in my 74 yrs. - the best western ever made to me - - George Stevens made a classic - i finally ordered the paperback book - they want big money for hard bound - some are illustrated some are not

Had to go summer school in 7th or 8th grade and our teacher read this book to us after we finished our work. I am 37 now and I still remember how good this book was, thank you for uploading it.

For me, having read Shane long ago, Peter Marinker's narration was a revelation, bringing the book to life again, on another level. Utterly mesmerizing.

It was my dads favorite movie. He used to watch it 4 to 5 times a year. I became inquisitive and asked him about it. He told me about it and that it was his favorite. I took it one day and watched it and became hooked immediately. I could see immediately why it was his favorite. A quiet man not to push around. That was the man my father was. You dared not try him as he was a man that would put you on your backside before you could blink. It became my best movie as well as I became the man my dad was my mom told me. Do not touch the people I care for, but mostly, I was the quiet one who looked after his family. I suppose the war also had a role to play in who I became.

The film actually gave it a bit of context where fletcher had been there before the homesteaders and actually tamed the land (and no doubt the indigenous population). Yes, he was leaning heavily on the homesteaders but he felt he had a right. I like stories better when it is not pure good versus pure evil because real life never is. Never.

22:00 no mention of Shane sharpening that well worn ax on one of those big-round pedal-powered free-standing sharpening stones. Dull ax blades are DANGEROUS, and terribly inefficient (wastes much much time & muscle-power. :)

Quit ruining the book plz and movie their good as is if you have a problem with it then you can make another Shane yourself

An axe is a tool, much like any other tool. It is as dangerous as the man that is holding it.

Voice characterizations don't always do a story justice. This tale fortunately is able to overcome some really bad voices.
@Hereford1642 Жыл бұрын
I have heard some readings that I would rather not bother with but I thought this man read it well. None of it was 'really bad' unless you have your own pre-conceived version of how each character should sound. Is it that you watched the film and now want them to sound the same? Anyway, you ask a lot for no money.
