This reminds me--at the end of the book "The Long Earth", the Yellowstone volcano actually does go off (this isn't the end of everything however, because...well, read the book) and I remember, there was this one line where they specifically say the eruption ITSELF--the actual fire part--is "so large you could see it from Salt Lake City. " And I'm just like "...FUCK." Now, that's two British writers writing a sci-fi story, but STILL. Damn.
