Joe isn't dumb enough to fight a full grown mountain Lion with his bare hand's. You can't really grapple with a big cat, The Amount of force that a 200 pound mountain lion can generate is incomensrate when compared to a human being even a human being whose in shape and very Strong. Joe would have no chance without a Knife. And it ain't just their strength, It's also their claws, they've got a set of giant razors on each of their Paws. So they can easily disembowel a man without much effort. You gotta remember those things were designed to kill Elk and other giant Land Prey. Killing a human is nothing to them.

I eyeballed a Great White about 15 years ago in Victoria, about 100km down the road from Bells Beach. I was sitting out the back by myself when I saw this huge nose and scary black eyes popped up to have a look at me then sunk back down under the water, and I just had to wait there until the next set came through. Surfing was never the same again, I could never enjoy it properly again. I’ve seen four sharks while surfing over the years, but rarely get in the water anymore.

I live in Perth Australia and another swimmer was eaten by a great white in really shallow water close to shore. They searched for him for 4 days and found nothing. Only his goggles. A surfer witnessed the attack and called out to these teenagers in a dinghy to help. The kids got to half the swimmer but the shark was swimming between the boat and the swimmer to protect its meal. The eventually got close enough to try pull him up but the shark lunged again taking the other half under and eating it. People seen the shark swim at speed into the sandbank to force half the swimmer down its throat.

I have two phobias.. Spiders (big one's) and Great Whites.. Just imagine being in the ocean, totally vulnerable with a decent swim back to shore and all of a sudden you dive under and see a humongous shark triangulating your position, It's one of those where I'd be so terrified I wouldn't want to move. I know the best thing to do is high tail it out of there, but I also feel like that would alert the shark more.. It's a sticky one, and a situation I hope I never get myself into.

No, "we" aren't over fishing their food supply. The Chinese are over fishing their food supply. They have over 7500 (officially they claim 2500) fishing vessels compared to the USA's 350-400 vessels. The Chinese fleets can be seen from space at night bc they use powerful lights to draw fish to their nets. There are so many factory ships they can stay at sea for 2 years while smaller ships transport the catch to market. They've been devastating the waters off South America, Central America, the Philippines and places all over the Pacific.

I surfed a spot called 's turns' on Maui once. It's a really long paddle to the sand bar, maybe 600 yards. Later that day i was told by some locals to never surf there if the water is cloudy because the bull sharks don't see well and it's dangerous. 6 months later, a local surfer, who surfed there every day was bit by a large tiger shark on the leg. Other surfers helped him get to shore, but the paddle is so long and he lost so much blood that he passed away on the beach before the ambulance arrived. It's really rare for sharks to attack people and they usually let the person go, but the blood loss from the bite can be fatal.

Tens of millions of interactions between humans and sharks every year and very very few attacks. It’s extremely rare for a shark to attack people, even great whites.

My worst fear is sharks lol I was off snorkeling in Montego Bay Jamaica when the Mf guides took off and left us there to go help another stranded boat. We tried swimming towards the boat maybe about 500 yards away, by the time I looked down it was nothing but deep blue ocean. The worst helpless feeling that I would have a shark swim up and bite us lol

You were probably safer in the deep water, scary as I know it was, most shark attacks happen in shallow water. They go there to feed because it's easier to chase prey.

What most folks don’t understand about sharks is that almost all bites are exploratory, not predatory. Some smaller species may also bite out of territoriality, but it’s almost never out of hunger. We are simply not a natural prey item that they recognize, and there are documented cases of sharks much larger than a swimmer being afraid because humans are a foreign and unknown entity. Consider that sharks have no appendages with which to explore and manipulate their environment besides their mouths. Attacks are very rare, and when they do occur, there are usually deep lacerations but little flesh removed. If a predator the size of a great white or tiger shark actually wants to eat you there isn’t going to be a lot of you left to find. That is not to imply that sharks are harmless, or that a single bite cannot be fatal, but sharks are in actuality much less of a threat than movies and media outlets would lead you to believe. Attacks are newsworthy because they are infrequent, and most interactions resolve peacefully without swimmers even noticing a shark’s presence.

That last sentence pretty much covers it.

Not entirely true, definitely been great white predations where they actively try to eat all of someone
@augustgremaud27382 жыл бұрын
@@hospagalief absolutely! Predations can and do occur. I am just trying to convey that it’s not usually the motive. Sharks should absolutely be treated with caution and respect, but I often see them being made out as monsters online which is rather unfair and unproductive, especially with many species being increasingly imperiled by environmental issues.
@augustgremaud27382 жыл бұрын
@@hospagalief A good analogy might be black bears. They are usually not predatory towards humans, and spend most months eating insects and nuts. However, black bears are opportunistic predators that occasionally attack deer-sized prey such as humans with the intent to feed. Even so, most black bear attacks are defensive, with a mother protecting her cubs. It’s still grim if you are a victim, but understanding the difference informs how most people view the species. I’d wager that far more people encounter bears than sharks since we are terrestrial, but we lack the same degree of cultural terror. (Grizzlies, of course, are a different story).

August, It’s also newsworthy not just because it’s rare, but because it’s so Gnar gnar .
