I was 15 years old in 1999 when The Matrix hit theatres. I was growing up, in a mormon family, I felt completely trapped, my entire reality felt like a lie and I was screaming on the inside not sure what to do. I didn't even know I needed to escape, or how to rip from my entire existence and create a new life. Then I walked into this movie. I cannot tell you how profound that movie was at that time in my life. It was just a powerful as a very spiritual power psychedelic experience. I left that movie completely changed and my eyes opened. I didn't know all the answers but it gave me the strength to etch a way into my new life and tear down the walls of indoctrination and the prison for my mind that I had to escape. What a phenomenal piece of art. The fact that they could package that dose of philosophy and truth into a popcorn action sci fi flick, is really a monumental success. I love many films, but the matrix for me is a very very very special movie.
