Another addition to the fleet of retired bus videos uploaded to this channel, this time, the 2002-2004 Orion VII Hybrids.
Out of the Orion VII OG Hybrid fleet that's being retired, these are the ones I'll miss the most. These were some of the more problematic hybrids in the fleet at first, but they became better over time.
These fleet of buses were primarily in Manhattan(Amsterdam before it closed, Mother Clara Hale before it closed & Manhattanville) and Queens(Queens Village Depot). These have shown up on other routes in the five boroughs due to snow related service patterns.
These buses have even shown up on Staten Island, as two were loaned to the island prior to the arrival of the 2008 Orion VII Next Generation Hybrids, as they were used to determine how feasible hybrids would be on the island.
What you'll see here are is roughly 40 minutes of clips of this fleet of hybrids in service with an interior video as well. There were some clips that were omitted from this compilation. These buses were powered by a Cummins ISB engine with the BAE Systems HybriDrive.

These buses were my childhood, I grew up seeing a lot of these units from Queens Village depot on routes such as Q27, Q36, Q43, Q46 & Q88. I even saw them doing trippers on the Casey Stengel routes and I also saw these units from Manhattanville. In my opinion these OG HEVs were the best fleet of OG HEVs, I truly miss them a lot and I think about them alot.

Hearing those loud kneelers bring me back to my childhood. Only the Ogs sound like that and it reminds me of my old apartment late at night when I had my window open. Could here them all the way up on the 23rd story every night. Gonna miss these orions

These buses will be missed but not forgotten remember riding these on the Q27 Q36 and Q1 Q2 and they sounded Great also they had the traction motor or generator I believed

So hybrid buses were a thing in the US from the early 2000s? The first ones here wasn't till 2005 or so even then they didn't become mainstream till after 2012/13

Late 90s-Early 2000s for us here in NYC. We had ten Orion VI Hybrid prototype buses in 1998 and they ran for a few years, which ended up leading us to these Orion VIIs. We also had two prototype Nova Bus RTS Hybrids in 1999-2000, but were withdrawn from service due to numerous issues with those buses, along with Nova Bus leaving the US market at the time.

I like these buses a lot, I lived by these buses and I was even born right next to one(I’m actually being serious what I say that) cus I was born at the last stop for the Q46 which is Long Island Jewish Hospital.
