I think it might be the heritage of HipHop / music. Through out there are nods to many other songs/ videos ( especially the 1990s era). Her parents are Nigerian and she was born in UK. Dave Meyers , the director, directed Missy Elliot’s videosback in the day. He has gone on to do many more artists’ through the years.
