G'day Philip. Thanks for the comment mate. I used old fence palings for the bottom of the rack to sit the bottles on. I just fitted and nailed them between the front and back pallet boards. You can use any old timber really just as long as it is recycled as you can see it from underneath. You want it to blend in. Cheers mate

I made this today and I'm happy with it. I used pallet wood for everything except the glasses holder for which I used a fence slat. I need to be careful and not "mill" the wood too much and lose it's rusticness. It's amazing to me how beautiful crummy old wood, that most people think is garbage, can become. Cheers Knackers !

Came to this video after the one about separating a pallet (even sawzalling a few proved to be a task cause some pallets just have a harder life than others) but I loved the look of the wine rack so had to come see what you did to it to make it look so good. I'm building a computer desk (but could be any sort of work surface) out of pallets because the cost of a new desk built with the dimensions and shelving like I want would be out of this world. (okay, I'm just cheap haha) It's a bit crude since I'm just measuring and just winging everything as I go, but you sure have helped me with your videos so just wanted to say thanks and cheers from North Carolina.

@diyforknuckleheads10 жыл бұрын
Thanks Christopher. We don't keep our wine long enough for standing up to be an issue :-) Cheers mate
@SW-zu7ve10 жыл бұрын
Why would it matter if the wine is horizontal? It doesn't matter at all. You only need to put the bottle horizontally if the bottle has a cork to keep the cork from drying out. None of those bottles have a cork therefore laying them horizontally does absolutely nothing.

@TheLeolian7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, pretty sure it doesn't say how you made the base to hold the wine bottles.
@andypitz17 жыл бұрын
Installing the bottom was skipped over you're right. It looks like two pieces make up the bottom. I think he just measured the inside dimensions of the two rectangular openings, from the edges to the middle support, on each side and glued/nailed in two pieces of wood so they are flush with the support in the middle and with both sides. The three spacer blocks that hold the slotted piece for the wine glasses get attached to the bottom. You can see at 4:17 the two rectangular openings that are filled in and become the bottom.

I'm a bit curious to know how you fastened it to the wall. Did you hang it or did you just run some screws through the whole thing? Cause I was trying to figure out how to make it so it can hang but still be flush with the wall.
@diyforknuckleheads11 жыл бұрын
G'day HaaGrotesk. I drilled a hole in the wine rack and screwed it directly into a stud. That way the unit sits flush against the wall. Hope that helps. Cheers mate
@HaasGrotesk11 жыл бұрын
shaneconlan1 Yeah that's what I thought! But is it as strong as having a "hanging mechanism" like nails to the wall and hooks on the shelf. I love the way you have it. No gap between the wall and the shelf but I'm a but nervous about the durability of it.
@diyforknuckleheads11 жыл бұрын
Screwing it directly to a stud is by far the best method. It will never come down. How did your rack turn out?
@HaasGrotesk11 жыл бұрын
shaneconlan1 Ok! Thanks for the tip! I'll go for the stud. I haven't made a rack yet. I just recently discovered pallet furniture and I'm planing to make a bed but seeing your rack was very inspiring so a similar rack is number two on the list! Do you have any tips where to get old pallets. I think they recycle them here in Sweden! I used to live in Australia but I moved back to Sweden. Bad decision now that winter is coming! :D
@diyforknuckleheads11 жыл бұрын
Pallet furniture is really becoming popular and more and more people are getting into it. I would try fruit shops, tile supply shops, small motor shops like power tool shops or lawn mower shops. The smaller the company the better l find. Yeah it might be a touch chilly in Sweden this time of year! Not one to rub it in, but l have just gotten back from the beach:) Stay in contact. Cheers

I am having difficulty with the slotted board breaking in between the slots. I am drilling the hole in the middle of the board and creating the slot every 5 inches. Any suggestions as to alleviate this issue?
@diyforknuckleheads8 жыл бұрын
Hi Rochelle. One of the tricks is to find a dense board as they are less prone to breaking. I know what you are referring to but it just takes patience and a steady hand. If they do break off you can glue them back in place with the aid of a nail which has the hole predrilled prior to banging in the nail. Good luck
