I don't think Shane was saying he knew there was a kid under the blanket. He was just saying he saw kids on the plane by themselves and then saw Mel Phillips later with the blanket. He was disgusted that he would perform a sex act on a plane in general. I don't think he put two and two together until after the allegations came out that it was probably a kid under the blanket.

Everyone needs to stop criticizing unless you've been in his position. He was more than likely dumbfounded and not believing what he saw! He also said himself that he wasn't sure and they could have looked younger than they were. We all know someone in their 30s and 40s that still look like a teenager. You can tell it does not sit right with him, but even if he did say something, it would have been buried. You all know it would have been. Look at Referee Rita...It made no difference her going public on Sally Jessie Raphael and Barry O wasn't acknowledged after going on Phil Donahue. Money is power.

It's the same thing that happens in prisons. If someone gives you something, they will make you feel obligated you must pay them back. Mel was taking these kids to wrestling matches , feeding, and flying them. You don't think he didn't pressure them?

consider that these guys were on the road some 320days a year. now we're not going to presume the pervert did this each and every night but you can probably presume that 1/2 or 1/3 of the time he was doing this stuff. it's utterly disgusting. even more disgusting. after all of it came to life and Phillips was initially fired, Vince gave Phillips his freaking job back.

It's really not that unusual. We all like to think in our heads that there's a 0% chance we'd have acted differently, but science and history say otherwise. Bystander effect is real, and it's a hell of a thing. This might not _quite_ be "bystander effect" per se. But it's in league with it. I highly doubt that all, or even most of the guy who "looked the other way" did so purely out of evil or callousness or indifference. They probably mostly assumed there wasn't much they could do about it and that someone else would deal with it eventually and end it. I'm not necessarily defending them, nor am I damning them. Just saying that sometimes the human psyche is, unfortunately, more complicated than that. If it weren't, people getting killed/assaulted/beaten/etc... in front of large crowds of people wouldn't be a thing that happens sometimes.
