Randall saying to Dante in the casket, "You're not even supposed to be here today," is just such a heavy, organic, and beautifully written moment. 😭

It's literally the opposite. Why would Randall "organically" reference something that Dante said on a random day years ago? Of course the audience recognizes the line from the original film but in the Clerks world it would carry no actual meaning.

@@Sickwithit355 So I guess over the 30 year period between Clerks and Clerks 3 he became known for saying "I'm not even supposed to be here today?" But why? How often did he have to come in to work when he wasn't scheduled and then feel the need to express his outrage out loud as a result? It would have made more sense if, in Clerks 3, we learned they were clerks who were huge fans of the movie Clerks which they didn't realize was about them but they quoted constantly to one another. That would have provided a much better context to the comment while staying true to the meta aspect of the film.

This movie broke me. I’ve always felt a strong connection to the franchise, identifying with both Dante and Randall most of my life… well, I was so pumped for this, and it came on streaming on 10/14/22 - I stayed up until midnight as the 13th turned to the 14th, watched, and cried. I watched again in the afternoon. Losing Dante was horrible. It was also the 3rd anniversary of my grandfather passing… that night, I drove up to the mountains for a family weekend getaway. Well, we got there, and about an hour later my sister came out to tell me that our stepsister had died from (unbeknownst to her) fentanyl laced weed which mixed with her medication and stopped her heart. Rough day… but things one of my all time favorites. Sorry for the heaviness!

Watched this the 1st time in a theater & the 2nd time in a bigger venue in Atlanta that had a Q&A afterwards with Kevin Smith & Brian O'Halloran. We had front row seats & it was awesome. At the end since we were in the Kevin Smith club we got to get a group pic with Kevin & also autographs & pics with Brian. I’ve met Kevin & Jason so many times now that I was wanting to get one with Brian. Got autographs of everyone on the Jay & Silent Bob cruise, but Kev’s wife. Wasn’t able to get pics though which was a bummer since Jason Lee & Ethan Suplee were there. Hoping to catch them one day at another con or whatever so I can add those to my Mallrats collection (I have a pic with Michael Rooker from going to Walking Dead cons). I even own a hockey jersey that Kevin had worn the day before & gave it to me straight out of his suitcase that I treasure, he even signed it to me. It’s in a jersey shadow box type thing that locks. It’s one of my pride & joys. We get sent things all the time from the Kevin Smith club & a lot are signed. Hubby knows to buy me something Kevin related instead of jewelry, that’s what I’d totally rather have.

This film was so great, and it hit me hard (especially after losing my Dad to a heart attack at 46). I had a little bit of an advance warning, only because I got to hear Kevin Smith tell his own heart attack story on a talk show. He is a riveting and hilarious storyteller (at least about his own life), and I couldn't see this film without knowing that something like this really happened to him. I don't know how this trilogy was supposed to end, but this is the kind of trilogy it TAKES 30 years to complete. You couldn't just shoot these back-to-back, year after year, like you could with Transformers or Fast and the Furious movies. This was a long, long time in the oven, and it makes the first film (and even the second film) better.

That's how he "describes" it now, but his reasoning behind Dante's dying when he wrote it was that he continued to hear from fans, "Oh, My Dad/Mom/Brother/Sister had the Widowmaker like you," and when Kevin would ask how they were, the fan would respond, "Oh, they died." It apparently made Kevin realize just how lucky it was that he survived and in his commentary on the blu-ray, he said, "I had to write both; the heart attack where I lived and the heart attack where I died."

Kevin Smith almost died from a heart attack before this movie. The Clerks movies reflect where Smith was at. For this one he was contemplating his morality and legacy as a director. Elias and Transformers in Clerks 2. The surgery is a stint insertion. A small nick is made in the artery in the arm or leg and insert stint on like a wire that is threaded through the circulatory tot the blockage. The heart is not directly involved nor any organ. The incision is minimal and no blood loss. Only a local anesthetic is used for the incision. There is no reason to risk unconsciousness. He would be given an anti-anxiety drug. And an IV because that is used to increase blood pressure in case of shock.

I also bought a jersey off him that he signed and took a photo with me.
