You can also see the difference in the ring's energy when they're playing tug of war. Shang Chi's energy is more flowing, channeled and connected, where his father's is rigid, and sporadic.

yeah his father uses brute strength and the rings are not aligned perfectly and tilted in every direction. while shang chi's style is ta lo's style which uses smooth and fluid fighting style and the rings are perfectly aligned and moving smooth and gracefully.

you also see that in the fight between the Father and Mother. mom is all redirection and negation while the dad is all offense. it isn’t until Wenwu stops fighting aggressively when the mom gets some offensive kicks in. Really cool back and forth

Interesting details I noticed: -The dweller of darkness glows purple and grows stronger by consuming souls, which seems oddly similar to the black panther purple plants that that came on the vibranium comet, since their culture is so based in death and the afterlife and the plants make the people stronger when they eat them -The waterfall portal to the village was literally the water version of the fire portals the sorcerers use, which makes me see the village as essentially nature based implementations of the same core magic system in the MCU. Which makes me think the 10 rings function as some kinda conduit to various magic types, similar to thors hammer being a conduit to the odin force. The rings turned gold in the final attack, which I'm pretty sure is cosmic attacks.

The ten rings, being thousands of years old, could be relics from the time the Eternals came to earth to battle the deviants. The bad dragon swallowing souls could be an ally of the deviants and the rings started the beacon to alert the Eternals that the deviants are back.

Now that I think about the title “multiverse of madness”, emphasis on the madness part, madness is often associated with cosmic horror stuff and love craft so I wouldn’t doubt there’s gonna be so sort of Cthulhu monster as a main antagonist. Would be a great movie if done correctly, especially if it’s actually a “horror” movie as they’ve described.

Great movie,. good review. Looking for more from Shang Chi. Since I have practiced both Tai Chi Chuan and Ba Gua Chang, I can verify that the style you are calling Tai Chi Chuan (Principle of Yin/Yang Fist) is actually Ba Gua Chang (8 directions/principles Palm). The circling step is the basis of Ba Gua. There is only one circling step in the long tai chi form (leading into the Lotus Kick). The most common tactic of Tai chi is half-step yield, small pivot with spiral parry, and spring forward to uproot or flow through any opening. There is some overlap but they are distinct. Just saying.

While I'm not as up-to-date on the current shang-chi, the one thing I find interesting in the MCU analysis by most KZbinrs: no one seems to notice or mention that the beacon sent by the ten rings is in the shape of the Yin and Yang. This was the symbol worn on the back of the tunic of shang-chi throughout the comic book. It is an oriental symbol of balance involving opposites such as good and evil, dark and light, male and female, et cetera. I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts. I'm also curious as to what this might mean for the more celestial next phase of the MCU

This films fighting scenes were so good! I honestly never thought I’d be impressed after watching John wick. But the choreography in this movie was just so elegant

But why didn't we acknowledge that when the arrived in Ta Lo the portal was a water version of the sling ring portal, or maybe the direct connection to the mummy 3 when you see the lions at Ta Lo. Just some things I picked up on.

This film had me hooked with the very first father son battle of the MCU . I also enjoy that Shang-Chi is is not just a good martial artist anymore, he now has powers, and that's perfect

It was a very enjoyable movie. However I had to come here right after watching it to learn the backstory from the comics and see what I did not pick up on what I didn't know. Always great to have to make these vids Erik. Thanks.

Fun fact: In the late 1980s Stan Lee had considered a film/TV series about Shang-Chi, and had in mind Brandon Lee, son of martial arts superstar Bruce Lee, for the role. Shang-Chi was visually based on Bruce Lee, so Brandon seemed a fitting choice, but the plan didn't go through

This movie was insane. The fight choreography and cinematography was amazing. And the plot was great as well. The movie was also hilarious, I laughed at almost every scene. 8.5/10 for me.
