Well part of the problem is some of their lines stop and then continue on in a different color after a certain station. That seems to be a waste of a color to me.

@@MichaelRabbitBass3 Those lines are intentionally split in order not to have any single line breaking the 60 mile mark, so should any mishap happens the damage would be limited somehow. Also those split lines usually specifies different sized trains, intended for different amounts of passengers and station spacings.

@@MichaelRabbitBass3 Should Shanghai not break the lines, there would be a single Shanghai Metro Lines 16, 11, Suzhou Lines S1, 3 Shuofang Airport Line, Wuxi Lines 4, 7, etc joint service that runs for 200+ miles from Shanghai to Hefei.

Just an FYI, line 13 was a line specifically built for the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, to connect the two sections of the expo across the Huangpu River. This is why it went out of service after 2010 for a couple of years, since the expo closed. It was reintroduced later on, with more stations and mileage.

I visited and traveled in China, including Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, Kunming, Xian, Turfan, etc. for a month in the autumn of 2017. I was astounded and admirably impressed with their efficient modern subways and speedy railroads in China. 😄 It is safe, comfortable, and efficient. It is a huge contrast to the USA subway. I felt much safer in the subway and trains in China 😊 than in the multicultural USA subway. 😧

Love your work! There was probably one tiny mistake though. When "Oriental Sports Center" station was first opened in April 2011, it was named "Jiyang Road"; so in 2009, the trains just passed through this "left-over" station, but didnt stop at it, meaning this station was not opened. This station was opened at April 27th, 2011, not in 2009. And back in 2009, the Oriental Sports Center was still underconstruction. In May 2011, to cooperate with the FINA Aquatic Championship event(世泳赛), the station name was changed to Oriental Sports Center. There are still other tiny mistakes detected, but doesn't affect the overall result. No offense, still, love your work! 我是上海人,不管怎样,为你做的视频点赞!

Alternative answer: big oil and auto manufacturing companies have lobbied Republicans (mostly) tirelessly for decades to stop public transport development in the USA, because they make billions of dollars every year from selling petrol and cars to every single American who is forced to sit in horrendous traffic for hours every day.

@@NS-xo6qe Yeah, public transport initiatives have been actively sabotaged by lobbyists. The US has the industrial backbone to pull off large infrastructure projects as well, but the powers that be have made sure that the expertise needed for these construction projects stay dormant.

@@BZY-bu9wr The only way on how to fix US public transport is by making lobbying illegal. However, it will be almost impossible to do that, since the entirety of the GOP party is made up of Lobbyists.

In 2007/2008, after the construction of metro line 8, the initial name for the southern end of this metro is actually Aerospace Museum. I remembered this because as a kid back then who just moved to that area in 2007, I was legit excited to see that museum. Later that plan got canceled and I believed the government renamed it Shendu Highway in 2009. Just some little details you might have missed. This video honestly gives me anxiety about how fast the time passed by. It was 14 years ago! It is amazing how my hometown has developed so much for the last few decades!

I was born there and stayed until 2020. Line 13 (the one that disappeared) was build temperarily for 2010 Shanghai Expo. The management and the quality of the new line is always improving. The problem is some of the lines are too long and you have to be patient enough to sit for hours. For example, if you want to go to the south east part (Dishui Lake) from the city center. It would take about 2.5 hrs, which is make it slower than car (1.5 hrs).
