Architecture that forms to and compliments the landscape instead of flattening or destroying it has always fascinated me. Although the quarry was man made to begin with, this is a great use of the area which would have otherwise been a scar on the landscape.

A Malaysian businessman bought an abandon quarry too near Kuala lumpur 40 years ago, only much greater scale compare to this. It is 88 acre and about 150 feet at the deepest point below ground level. Now it have a water thyme park, a megamall, apartments, a zoo, a university and a 6 stars hotel. It is remarkable how a once unused land turn into a goldmine. Sunway lagoon is a must visit place when you visit Kuala Lumpur.

Shanghai doesn't have a monsoon season, but it certainly floods - particularly in the outer districts. It's actually the first thing I thought when I heard about this hotel getting constructed!
