Hi Luke, nice one. Shanghai loves innovation, I was fascinated by the capacitor buses, like a trolley bus without wires, at each stop it makes contact with power bars above to charge the capacitors. London still uses diesel buses, I can't help thinking these capacitor buses would suit most large cities with short distances between each stop. I'll look out for the trams on my next visit to Shanghai. This link gives details of the Capa buses in Shanghai .... capacitorsen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capa_vehicle ..... Tim.

In Copenhagen we´re testing a type of these buses(from Finish Linkker), with charging stations at every terminus instead of every stop. Securing flexibility. ing.dk/sites/ing/files/styles/w1120_media_right/public/07-dsc02022.jpg?itok=_e56SQ7v

I hope the tests are successful, as this has to be the best way forward for city buses and maybe a hybrid version for buses that continue well beyond the city limits.

the area is very hilly, rubber tires can scale them more easily
Monorail FTW. If you don't like its bumps, use Maglev systems.

Translohr is the shittiest tram system I've ever ritten. There's just one real advantage over normal trams and that's the capability of a greater inclination. But that's only good if you use it. I've been on the one in Paris (or actually just outside of Paris) and it's not steep at all. What it is on the other hand is largely uncomfortable to ride because of the bumps in it's track. This is caused by the gaps between the concrete parts they used. But even if you use gapless pavement it would still be awful. It will develop waves, especially in the area around stops or crossings. You can see that on highly used bus stops as well. But with Translohr it's much worst because all the wheel of all the trains hit the exact same track over and over again. Mercedes once developed a guided bus system (which was also shitty) and they started to use steel instead of concrete. But that will provide less traction, especially when getting wet. So you would loose the only advantage this system has.

There are other tired systems (monorails, people movers) that I've heard have a better ride quality. I'm guessing it's because of the type of concrete they use.

Look at the tramway in Nancy (France) and Caen (France) and reconsider what you said 😂😂
@stephenlaarkamp73442 жыл бұрын
@@Sylvere21 four years later, and Caen got fed up with the derailment problems and non-standard nature of it and replaced it with a regular tram and Nancy is getting rid of theirs this year and replacing them with trolley busses. Seems it has been considered and rejected.
