I was born in 1947 in Canton City, Republic of China . And lived in the then British HongKong from 1957 to 1969 . I am from an Cantonese-American family of Italian descent. Now I couldn’t say it’s my good old days because I am sad to see many of the very poor . But such songs do bring back many of the good old feelings from a different era. No matter when and where , life is having two sides and depends on your own way . ❤

When I was very young around 9 years old, I listened to these old songs with my mother, who is 92 years old now, and I am still caught by their sound and sense even now when I am 72 years old now. I love all of them. Thanks for your kind sharing. Yes, I remember always "昨夜你對我一笑" ^^

Chinese-Cambodian here. We have our version of "Smile At Me Last Night" sung by the legend himself, Sinn Sisamouth. I was born in 2000 and love listening to retro songs. Clearly, I'm in the wrong era haha.
these are the kind of songs that when you are Chinese, even if you were born in the USA or any other country outside of Asia that you hear, you immediately have a sense of belonging, warmness, and nostalgia.

@@joechan2118 please dont be overly flag-conscious in the most nonsensicle way. During 1920s to 50s hk was not the slightest bit "prosperous" and it was shanghai and guangzhou that were the most hip and chic. Local hk ppl couldnt even be roaming around upscale areas like central not to mention living there coz brits wouldnt allow it. In the early 1940s hk was even occupied by japanese for a lil less than 4 years. not until the 60s through 70s hk started to become a nice business city thanks to the blooming secondary industry. Of course there was profit for the uk to reap in a safe and sound business environment else who'd give a damn about average pooor undereducated locals livelihood under lion rock🤷🏻♂️🤷🏼♂️

@@MY-lk1ih Don't play ambiguity on this issue. Without communism China develop freely and well. But when that flag is hoisted China trapped into over 70 years of tragedies, one after another. Who told you HK is bad during 1920s to 50s? Is it largely base on the fiction movie of Bruce Lee which add provocative nationalism elements just for boosting box office?
@MY-lk1ih2 жыл бұрын
@@joechan2118 no ambiguity just think it wasnt the party(with marxist ideologies) but the cultural revolution (tool used by politicians) that wreaked havoc. My ancestors of generations before could still lead comfy lives and enjoy art,music,culture,nice clothing well into early 60s when the ccp was ruling. If china had always adopted a more open door kind of policy(esp in those 2 or 3 decades) she wouldnt be a poor ass developing 2nd world country in the 90s. Btw im not a fan of the party but you gotta be objective and see from different angles. i didnt said hk was "bad" back then but the city was definitely not as literate and flourished in the roaring eras compared to the uk herself, and local folks just didnt have those privileges that we consider to be rights nowadays. There are figures , statistics , pictures and facts to loook into. And why do you think bruce lee's "nationalist" movies were so popular ? Because ppl can relate hmm? I believe its not only chinese but everyone who got/gets bullied, ripped off, insulted, humiliated and discriminated also like em flicks. And lol whats wrong with a chinese person doing nationalist movies? Only hollywood can? with discreet subliminal message instillations? one problem of ccp is that they do shit too obviously .

excellent collection to revive my chlldhood memories as my mom always listens and sings along these classic melodies
Since somebody sent me this , I have not stopped listening to this every day. I live in Europe now but I remember during my childhood, these song were played very loudly in the neighborhood where I grew up. Not everybody had a radio those days and so people were happy to have that. I missed my motherland and hope to go back one day forever.
