My parents emigrated and spoke only Shanghai-like dialect Ningbo language to us. So different from Mandarin or Cantonese, which were much more common household immigrant families' languages among my peers in Chinatown New York in the late 1970s. I definitely understand more of the Shanghai without converting in my mind than I do Mandarin and Cantonese, despite trying to learn Mandarin later in life. Thanks for sharing!!!

Some of them sound similar to Cantonese and some more like Mandarin.
