I think people, particularly non-musicians, get WAAAAY confused about what great drumming really is, in the same way they're confused about guitar players.. The busy, technique driven, exhibition style drummers get all the attention, but THIS is what the best drummers do.. Stay in the pocket, understand their role in the song and provide that unmovable backbeat.. I'll take this kind of drummer ANY day over a noodler..

I agree and disagree with you at the same time. I think what you described is what makes a good drummer. But if you ask me then the greatest drummers serve the song not only by staying in the pocket, but by expanding upon them WITHOUT going overboard and butchering the song in the process. Don't get me wrong, this is great drumming, but I'd prefer someone with a more eccentric playstyle, since that makes the entire song more interesting.
@carlbamburg74394 жыл бұрын
@@flops0317 I don't disagree with your point, however I'm simply pointing out that MOST of the general public DOESN'T understand the value of this type of drumming.. Oddly enough though, the general public BUYS this approach overwhelmingly.. Compare the worldwide sales figures of Shania Twain, AC/DC and Def Leppard (yes, all produced by Mutt) to Rush, Dream Theater, Zappa or ANY of the blast drummer bands sales of the day.. If you want to get the gig playing with an artist as world class like Shinia Twain, you won't get very far playing technically interesting parts. The crowd are there to see Shinia, the drummers job is to play a rock solid groove and serve the song. Like this. Don't worry, you'll understand one day.
@richboshart12016 жыл бұрын
To play in a big production, in an act on this level, you have to be consistent night after night, with no mistakes allowed. That’s a skill set not all drummers, even technically accomplished ones, have. People don’t get hired for acts like this unless they can be relied upon to support the song consistently and reliably. Good on you Elijah. Cover band drummers like me would love to have that gig. Keep rocking and having fun.
@CarcPazu6 жыл бұрын
Well, this is not Death Metal. Playing this type of beats, stiff like a 2x4, doesn't necessitate that much effort to be consistent. Judging by this performance alone, she's only playing basic stuff that most people that can hold a beat can play. So let's be honest here, she got the gig because 1- She's hot and looks good on a stage, sex sells. 2- She can hold a steady beat and get out of way. Some people here don't bitch because she's bad, they bitch because she's displaying very average skills and because she is showing off with a drumcam for the world to see. People think the skills displayed on this video doesn't warrant to be highlighted by a drumcam. And yes, the title was clickbait, I was curious to see the hobbit play drums.
@michaelcaplin89696 жыл бұрын
It does. Doing what she does here is on a WHOLE other level from being technically proficient in playing death metal. Technically amazing and even world class show-drummers are a dime a dozen, but drummers like her are really rare. It's a reason she got the gig. Yeah, it probably didn't hurt her job chances that she had a modicum of good looks (if it even is a she, I have no idea to be honest), but there's a reason why fat old guys get gigs just like these as well. They know how to do it.

Mutt Lange single-handedly changed the trajectory of rock music. Groups like AC/DC, Def Leppard, Foreigner, Shania Twain, The Cars, are just a few launched into stardom by Mutt Lange. Rarely a harsh word about his demanding perfection. Everyone trusted him and did as asked. A young Joe Elliot from Def Leppard was pushed to sing at an octave or two higher than he thought he could, did it just to get Mutt of his case. The resulting vocals are the trademark Joe Elliot we hear today. No one sings it better than Joe Elliot.

I think this drumming performance is awesome. All the people making comments about metal music and this is simple drumming and anyone with any skill can do this is incorrect. If you think its really easy to do this then get a metronome and set it at 120bpm and pick any groove you want and play that groove for 5 minutes with no drum fills or cymbal hits and stay consistent and record yourself then listen back. I think you'll find out its not as easy as you think. Then take into consideration who your drumming for and the venues your playing. The other thing is i think most people are impressed with drummers on youtube playing everything at warp speed and doing all this outrageous drum fills that in reality wouldn't be able to be used in a pro situation unless your soloing. Wow, I am stunned by the negative comments, people saying she is not a good drummer? Number 1 - she is playing the song exactly as the drum parts are written. 2 she is playing with excitement, energy and above all keeping the band in time. I think some people were expecting to see some great drum solo or something? Well, what you did get to see is a good professional drummer doing her job and doing it well.

@eds9c1 Thank you my friend! There is absolutely NO reason for anyone to have said anything negative about Elijah's performance here. I think we know the real reason why they were being so negative, some came out and said it. I have looked at Elijah's older video's and compared them with her newer ones, I hope my feelings are correct, she has finally come into her own, she finally feels complete. She looks so much happier now and is more energetic. I wish nothing but the greatest amount of success for her both professionally and personally. And let me tell ya something else, she has one helluva kick in her drums!! Now that could be the mic setup but I don't think so, I think she just has that much power!! The way she hits those drums reminds me of Bonzo (John Bonham of Led Zeppelin). She has the same furiousity and precision he had. Very few drummers energize me like Elijah does, how can you watch her and not feel energetic and happy? I saw Shania's other drummer and while he too was good, he did not have the same persona as Elijah.

Well, more than likely, the audio for this video was a feed mixed by the monitor engineer, which is typically tailored to what musicians wish to hear while playing thanks to widespread use of in-ear monitors.
