Beautiful - I heard this first in 1991. Old TDK Tape !!! Outstanding Abheri by Sri L Shankar - I think it was Ustaad Zakir Hussain accompanying him on Tabla and Vidwan Sri Vikku Vinayakaram on Ghatam …. I listened it so many times that the tape wore off. Brilliant !!!!

Music in the upper frequencies often seem harsh to me, these days. I listened anyway because of the images. It softened the music and made it more melodious and sophisticated to me. In my head it felt like things are rearranging, I felt much clearer and balanced. The notes jump around too quickly and unpredictably to follow them, thus causing the rearrangemt. By not being able to follow them we can' t control what they do, thus we cannot avoid their healing and rearrangig effect.

Tarak, this is some fantastic stuff by L Shankar!! As the video is entirely unrelated to the music from any point of view, I was wondering if you could put up something related to one of the following topics - the player L Shankar, or the raga 'Abheri', or the Carnatic (South Indian) kriti 'Nagumomu' or about the 18th centure Hindu saint composer Sri Thyagaraja? If you'd like any help with either the collation of information or its presentation in a final form, please let me know and I'd be happy to write something up for this. Please let me know if you think it's worthwhile going ahead. I just think that any visitors to this piece should have some context regarding the music, the genre, composer and player of this lively piece.

Tarak, Thanks for your response! I was actually just suggesting adding some text as a 'description', without changing anything in the video itself. @tarak Жыл бұрын
Hello, I didn't write it, youtube is doing this automatically, I don't know how to change it. When I uploaded it 10 years ago, I attached Lakshminarayanan Subramaniam on the end of the Raga Aberi by L. Shankar. It was my mistake at that time, sorry. KZbin probably doesn't know L.Shankar, so they recognize only Lakshminarayanan Subramaniam on the end.

We are lucky to live in the same era as this musical genius. As for the visuals, at one point we are shown a half naked teenage girl... the poor little girl does not know she's being filmed and viewed. It could be my daughter, your sister, our mother when she was younger... I think we should protect this innocent girl by not showing this video on youtube so gratuitously. If we want to see naked girls there is plenty of that on the internet, with girls who are ok about being filmed. But this young girl can be spared. Don't you all agree?
@bikutageto836910 жыл бұрын
I haven't seen the bit with the girl but, unless she's portrayed in an overtly sexual way, i think you might be overreacting a bit.. It's 55min of great footage of what i presume is India, loaded with culture and people dressing as they did over there at that time. Practically naked men, women, boys and girls, what's the difference? Everyone in that video was being filmed, why do you draw the line at one teenage girl?
@kvuppal110 жыл бұрын
Take the time to see that bit, then. You can clearly see that she's bothered about her nakedness. I think it doesn't matter how she's portrayed, it's the fact that we haven't got her consent. Overreacting ? :-) Is it wrong to feel protective about an innocent child?
@bikutageto836910 жыл бұрын
You'd have to give me the time stamp for that bit, but i think you will agree with me that that goes against your goal here.. I know where you're coming from with this, but i simply think you're applying a double standard here. You don't seem to be worried about all the other men women and children that were shown, sometimes half naked, without consent. I am sure you mean well, but i feel this is something you should consider.
@chrisingres622110 жыл бұрын
"Don't you all agree?" not at all. there was a time in the seventies when children like my sister&me could play and run around naked outside while being photographed or filmed by my parents or neighbours or s.o. else without anybody thought in a sexual context. those GR8 days r gone. soon we will act like robots which were programmed not to touch anyone, not to film anyone, to be aware of any kind of nakedness. these will be poor times. we totally will loose our innocence in behalf of a hyperhygienic political correctness.
@NagaNarayana9 жыл бұрын
chris ingres Indeed nudity in itself is as serene as any other natural form of expression. But social perversion that an individual happens to be stuck with remains the sole problem. Even though the girl is as innocent as the serene nature as such ... even though the fellow who filmed the same has an amazing taste (view the rest of the footage as well; he covers such wide range of pristine culture; obviously, the videographer has an equally natural taste; qudos!) ... even though you and me could possibly retain the same natural awareness while viewing such footage ... the social perversion that is increasing day by day all around the world thanks to the internet leaves a lot of room for abuse of such innocence. I agree with you ... wish it were a simple era. But ... it is not. Unfortunate! Nag.

I'm curisou about the instruments, is it a cella paired up with an Alto, with a sy^mpathical chord resonance of a sitar ? If so the cello and the alto are sounding almost like a muffled wizando sometimes it's so weird O_o (in an all kinds of good way manner but man how do you get that muffled sound ?)
@jayvswar6 жыл бұрын
The instrument is called LSDV (L Shankar's Double Violin). It can produce sounds of violin, viola and cello. I think it has 10 strings as opposed to 4 on a normal violin. The artiste is not Mr L Subrahmanyam, but his brother Mr L Shankar. The percussion accompaniment is Tabla by the one and the only Mr Zakir Hussain. And on Ghatam, the great Mr Vikku Vinayakram.
