Im so excited to find you. Your teaching style is humanist and natural. I live in Salt Lake. I am a descendant of 19th century painter John Hafen of Utan. It's always been with me, wanting to paint. My dear aunt is a local artist, Diane Turner, who studied under Laconte Stewart. She us now 92, still painting. She had to switch from her dominant hand to paint with her nondominant hand due to esstential tremors. I am 65 and hearing someone say it takes 10 years for good art to develop, so be it. In my 39's I learned a bit about drawing from the liberal arts in college as I pursued my nursing degree. Then I started with watercolor for a couple if years, just for entertainment and personal pleasure. So I am taking those 3 years and deducting from 10, and hope by 72 years old, I will be able to give away art of my life so I feel I left something behind from my life, because people forget you, which saddens me. Must be important to me. Perhaps I need to start doing everything else in this short life with love for self as much for others. I look forward to learning more from you. How cool to have a neighbor that is an artist and friend. Thank you.

I just love Diane! I painted with her many years ago and I consider her a friend! And I have seen John Hafen's work many times. I am so excited for your art journey!

I really enjoy watching other artists work and explain their process. Being able to observe them up close makes all the difference for me. Whenever I watch Shanna and Elizabeth paint, I gain new insights into how I can incorporate what I've learned from their videos into my own paintings. I just watched one of their videos in my studio tonight, and I plan on re-watching it several more times. Thank you for providing such helpful resources."

Wonderful artist but the audio is so distracting. At times it sounds like an aquarium. Loads of fab tips from a very talented artist. Maybe an edit would be good. 😊

This was such a great demo! I've started painting watercolour & I use the cold wax as a sealer. Once the painting is dry I apply it like a shoe polish, a thin covering & then polish it dry with a dry rag.

What a pleasure to watch this video! I feel as if I've met you - practical, sensible, honest, and direct! I'm a pastellist, and I can't wait to play with laying down a pastel underdrawing in purples instead of laying down my greens and then adjusting them. I'm from CT, and you're dead right about the skies. The first time I saw the skies of Monterey, CA, I thought "Who would believe these colors back home if I ever painted this?!" Looking forward to more of your demos! Glad that we've met!

As you start to scrub in color over the purple, do you worry about the muddying of the colors.?
@inspiredtopaint Жыл бұрын
You know I really dont, and if it’s going to be a problem, I will wipe it out before putting down color in the same value as what was scrubbed. I have found that the ground provides continuity throughout the painting and if the color is not clean enough I will make a pile of clean paint and add it with a palette knife to keep it clean. I am one that is not afraid of mud, even though I was trained in watercolor for years before oil painting. Put a beautiful color next to a grey and you realize the greys are absolutely necessary to make that color sing!

Just curious do you use / prefer synthetic or natural brushes? I recently switched to natural bristle brushes and they are quite rough and seem to scratch the paint on. I’m considering switching back to synthetic
@ShannaKunzАй бұрын
@@vonkunstler884 I have always preferred synthetic brushes for the very same reason your mentioned!
