I've seen outtakes and behind the scenes of Charmed in which we can see Shannen being openly critical of the writing and directing. She was just a committed actress who wanted the best for her career. There's nothing wrong with that but the producers/executives were clearly fed up. The latter seasons were positively horrendous, instead of having the grittier Charmed envisioned by C. Bruge, we got fairies, leprechauns and Pheobe endless love affairs... What a disappointment.

The fairies appeared while Shannen was still on though. As for Phoebe yeah her character and love stories became cringe.

@@hafidb4934 I mean, I believe C. Bruge and Kern were not getting along at all towrds the end of season 3 hence maybe the introduction of fairies while Shannen was still on ? And one giant mistake Kern did which was the total opposite of what Bruge wanted is the idea of "one episode, one demon". This totally fucked up the show imo. I'm still bitter as you can see lol

My understanding of things is that Shannen was mostly upset that Constance Burge (writer and original creator of Charmed) left the show because of disputes with Brad Kern. Shannen supported Constance and wasn't happy with a few things already and that was kind of her last straw. I think that she could have stayed even with any issues with Alyssa, if it hadn't been for the other things going on too. It is kind of like being in a job you love but management changes and you're just unhappy there anymore because of all the changes. Its just a shame she asked to be kept out of everything from the show going forward and never came back for a cameo, even with the final episode.

Actually Constance didn't leave Charmed til after season 4 because if u look back on it Season 4 storylines we're actually pretty good and Constance left because it was actually her idea that Piper got Pregnant at the end and during the pregnancy she actually wanted Piper to have twins a girl and Boy but the network told her no shutting down her idea and making it there own to change it into a boy instead so she left after she felt like she didn't have a say so in some of the things on the show so I can understand somebody coming in taking over something that was her idea from the jump is crazy

Prue was the best character in charmed, the sister with the strong power and I missed Shannen when she left the show and her character died, I could not get over this ahh🥺🥺🥺🥺😭😭😭 I wish she stayed. I loved Shannen and Prue ♥️

i was so annoyed and dissaponted when her character was killed off charmed, since i really loved Prue, they could have at least gave her a cameo towards the end, i was waiting for it the whole time, expecting her to magically apear in one of the later episodes and it never happened :L :(

I agree! i hate how they changed the formula of the shows, thinking its what we want, when we followed the show from the beggining, p.s Sabrina was only sabrina with her aunts, i hated the roomates or whoever they were, also charmed did suck after season 4, why couldnt they have kept the dark witchyness that made the show great, instead of turning it into a pre teen show, grr Fave seasons of charmed were def season 1, 3, 4 and a lil bit of 7, tho not all of it, hated the avatar thing lol

Oh my gosh! i love Coven lol!! I love supernatural shows, Buffy, next to charmed is one of faves, Supernatural is pretty good too and The originals, have you seen the seret circle?? As for Sabrina, it is true, i thought i could watch without the aunts but it didnt feel like Sabrina anymore, like a independent show that used the same name and brand, Itl be cool if they did more modern witchcraft shows, possibly a Craft remake or tv series hmm

It wasn't the writers fault or the shows fault as to why she didnt make appearances after she was killed off or why she was killed off in the first place. She chose to leave and she chose to not come back for later episodes. Although I wish that she had. Her seasons were my favorite (then also 5 and 6)

We'll never know for sure what went on behind the scenes, but obviously Shannen's fiery temperament didn't always mesh well with the staff, and I also feel like she had a certain idea about the direction she wanted the show to move towards, but that probably lead to clashes with the TV execs (in my mind). I feel like she might've had a hard time as an outspoken proactive woman when her ideas got rejected and/or brushed off by the men in charge, and as much as I can empathize with that -- part of being a mature person is also about accepting that with grace and taking the high road instead of acting problematic on set. I'm sure she's grown a lot and sees the big picture now and quite possibly regrets how things turned out.

I mean fair enough but the show clearly took an unfortunate direction. Instead of the grittier Charmed envisioned by Bruge, we got leprechauns, fairies and Phoebe's endless love affairs. Shannen obviously felt cheated and rightfully so.

Charles I agree. The first three seasons are the best and the most atmospheric, although I did like seasons 4 and 5 as well. I liked Rose McGowan’s performance and thought the way Paige was introduced & her growing bond with Piper and Phoebe was well done. I also enjoyed Piper’s character development as the oldest sister and how she becomes more of a leader. The ‘evil Wyatt’ storyline had its moments even though the writers milked it to death and Chris Halliwell was a good addition to the cast as well, the Cole/Source arc & Phoebe’s demonic baby were also cool. It was the last two seasons that had no redeeming qualities for me. Obviously, Christy and Billie lacked depth and were there just as plot devices since the very beginning; the characters were sloppily written, unlikeable, and robbed others of screentime. The series finale felt rushed and underwhelming... It’s unfortunate, but it seems to me like great TV series almost always have very disappointing conclusions and a gradual decrease in quality and Charmed is no exception.

​@@laracroftvideos Very nicely put comment. I agree with most of what you said although I did find Wyatt and his brother incredibly annoying and unnecessary. Oh and Christy and Billie got to be among the worst characters ever created. To me, they lost it when they strayed away from Wicca and explored more "kid friendly territories". The show did not have a big budget and that's fine but the writing was atrocious. It never felt believable to me. It was clearly written/directed by greedy sex obsessed male executives. Also, yes shows tend to start off strong and decline in later years but Charmed was botched very early on. I enjoy the first three seasons more but they also were flawed. It went from average to super duper cheesy bad. The storylines were quite simplistic and the fight scenes were (usually) ridiculous. I don't understand how some scenes were green lighted by the studio.. Maybe I'm wrong and Charmed was intended to be cheesy all along..? I doubt it given the darker tone of season 1.

Yeah I always admire Shannen Doherty but just because you don't agree with the other producers & writers of charmed doesn't make you head honcho Shannon did everybody a great favor for walking out of charmed I'm glad she exited in the final episode of season 3 because we wouldn't have Rose McGowan I liked her character as well Paige was a great addition on the show so what if there was leprechauns Plus togas & steamy love affairs with Phoebe & Cole I think it turned out good on everyone's behalf Holly & Alyssa became producers of the show after Shannon left I say they was doing good per episode 60 Grand come on that's some plenty of pocket change I wouldn't leave besides I heard Holly already signed a contract with charmed anyways so she couldn't have left if she wanted to I like Shannon don't get me wrong but she jinxed herself every role she had everyone said she's tough to work with I guess that's a diva for you 👑

It was more or less a you either leave or we fire you kinda deal. As I remember it Shannen and Both Holly Marie & Alyssa Milano didn’t get along. Seeing that Holly and Alyssa were producers in the following seasons, it could be speculated that she left because she was figuratively backed into a corner contract wise or something of the sort. Either way, Shannen did what was best for her at the time and ultimately she’ll regret it but we can’t deny that the first three seasons of charmed are what paved the way for 5 more seasons and a spin off. Had they originally casted someone else for Prue or for some reasons gone with the Paige, piper, and Pheobe right out of season one it wouldn’t have held up the same.

So when Prudence suddenly got such fighting skills in season three. She is really saying she jumped and kicked around herself? Do you remember the episode in the Fighting ring? So much post-hoc romanticized explanations for her exit, what do we know: she was Aaron Spelling's best girl/fav actress, getting leading roles in both of his hit TV Shows, and getting dismissed from them for similar issues. Yeah, Charmed wasn't the first time that the diva/party girl attitude got her into trouble at work. She Lindsey Lohan-ed before Lindsey even reached puberty. We all make mistakes, and I'm sure she regrets not learning fast enough after being booted off Beverly Hills 90210. Would I say Charmed suffered (I can't speak for 90210 because I'm not a fan)? Not really, but her absence was felt. Rose McGowan did alright as Paige, but the convenient "here's a missing family member that was never mentioned" has always been a pet peeve for me.
