Man I loved Prue... she was tough, confident , strong, a leader. Shannen played her so well... the show really wasn't the same after she left... I always kept waiting for them to bring SOMETHING of prue back.

She virtually vanished from the show except for that one couples counseling episode between Leo & Piper reminiscing about their relationship and they showed her back as she was getting on the motorcycle with that one guy during Piper’s wedding. It’s pretty sad. Prue was like the leader and the strong one of the sisters and I wonder how the dynamic would’ve progressed had she not left and what direction they’d take her character, instead of Piper pretty going through: all the emotions, the rollercoaster, filling in as the eldest sister (in her own right), being now the most powerful, having almost the most character development and storylines.

I always hoped Paige's power would have evolved into Prue's because the whole orbing objects thing not only got tiring but it didn't have the same umph in it that Prue's did when she threw an object against the wall. Or show a picture a flash-back episode. Like you said, SOMETHING.

I love Charmed, I've got all 8 seasons on DVD. Prue was always my favourite character followed by Piper after Prue died and it wasn't the same without her after Shannen left. Seasons 1-3 are my favourite but I like the first 2 episodes of season 4 because of how upset Piper was after losing Prue, you really see how good of a actress Holly Marie Combs is there. Season 3 the finale is my favourite episode because of the whole story of the episode and the acting of Shannen and Holly, Prue upset over the death of Piper, how powerful those scenes were when she tried to get Piper to the hospital and when she died in the hospital and then the funeral scenes in season 4 Holly's acting when facing the death of Prue both episodes brought a tear to my eye. Both amazing actresses

There true… season 4 was good because of Pipers grieving over Prue.. even smaller moments like when Piper went to Prues room and goes through her things to later offer that room to Paige… man those were good moments.

@@foshhaytek5304 It is unfortunate that so much of the final season was centered around Billie and Christy. For many loyal Charmed viewers, their characters were completely unnecessary as you stated. For the machine behind Charmed, those characters were necessary, because they were trying to pitch a Charmed spinoff starring Kaley Cuoco. Apparently, there was a merger along with budget constraints. It seems as though they may have been trying to pull in a younger audience and less-known actors that they could pay less; an absolutely foolish decision considering the original Charmed series has not only kept a strong and passionate following from its OG viewers, but younger generations are still connecting to it.

Well actually the reason why they brought in Billie and Christy was actually a thank you to the original stars because Holly Alyssa and Rose all took a pay cut so that they could do a 8th and final season so as the thank you to them they gave them less working hours and that's the reason why season 8 was so centered around the two other sisters

The budget was so tight they couldn't show photos of anyone who wasn't already in the episode, or else they would have to be paid for their image. That's why there were no photos of anyone besides Wyatt, Chris, Penny, Patty, Victor or the sisters because they were already appearing.

Let’s add on the fact they added bigger names like Billy Zane which cost more. When Julian returned his price went up after being in Fantastic four. So as a result, I guess Shannen wanted more attention in the finale but that's just my perspective and not something I take as a gospel....

As much as I would’ve loved to see Prue in the later seasons, Shannen was right for not wanting to bring Prue back. If you think about it, yes the girls lost their mom, grams and other relatives but they got to see them as ghosts so they never fully lost them. They fully lost Prue to death, it felt like a true loss. Which is what I loved about how they handled her death. It felt real, it was real. Patty, and Penny came back as ghosts many times. Prue did not return at all, which was sad but it made her death more hurtful and made everyone miss her more which is what made the fans want her to return more. It sucked she didn’t return for at least the last episode or 1 episode. But her departure and death was one of the only real deaths on the show that sticked. It showed that not even a Charmed One is immune to death. They’ve escaped death so many times, even Prue did but it caught up to her in the end. She was a badass, strong, independent woman. But she was so hell bent on winning every fight which is what got her killed. She wanted to save every innocent, she showed understanding that she couldn’t but she still tried with every fiber of her being to save everyone. Sadly her need to save everyone got her killed.

I kind of agree with that. I always accepted that she won't show up and it was definetely a good decision that she didn't because the loss was much more real. The explanation that Patty and Penny had been dead for long enough that the girls already accepted it and were allowed to see them while they couldn't see Prue made a lot of sense in this regard as well. That being said I do think it would be great if she at least showed up in the finale of Season 8. The time travel mess would be a good oppoutunity to include her in some way. But even if that is excluded, it would at least be great if she appeared on one of the family pictures that are shown at the end - that would make even more sense as the sisters would surely want to keep her memory alive. I know the reasons that didn't happen but it would have been great if it did.

Prue's death changed #Charmed forever, & not necessarily in a good way. I read some of the comic after the show ended, & while Prue does appear in the comic, going by the name "Patience", it's just not the same, since the character doesn't resemble Shannen in any way. For so long, people just assumed that the reason why Shannen left charmed was because she was "being a bitch", & that wasn't true at all, & I'm glad more of the truth has finally come out after all these years. Fans of Prue/Shannen had to deal w/ her abrupt departure, & for us, that was a huge deal.

Seasons 1-3 were the best!! Season 4 started off good and then just shot straight to hell..along with the rest of the seasons that followed. Season 7 is the true series finale. Season 8 is just "life after the final" and stupid as shit.

The later seasons were definitely feeling watered down, more budget was spent on costume & special affects, & they really took out all the dark elements that made the early seasons great it. They made seasons 5 & 6 more campy. Which is ironic considering how the WB didnt give them as much attention as their other advertised shows & weren’t treated that well as Rose McGowan stated. They tried to go back to making things slightly darker with 7 and part of 8.

At the end of the day, she played that character for three years. If she didn't think the way the writers had planned to bring her back for the finale was authentic or true to her character, she had every right to say no. If you think about it from her perspective, she probably wanted to save the fans from having to see something that would've disappointed them from a writing perspective. Sure, the nostalgia of having her back would've been wonderful but the substance wouldn't have been there and I doubt she wanted to disappoint the fans like that.

Honestly, I could picture the writers inserting Prue in a single scene or two as a ghost or from the past just to warn Phoebe not to give up on love or something stupid like that. When asked the same question years after this she said that once a character is dead it's dead and she's done. The fact that she forbade them from using her appearance altogether, even in pictures, says a lot how much she resented the show/producers.

I think Chuckles1972 is talking about when the sisters learned how to Astral Project when they were fighting Zankou in the finale. It didn't really make any sense because Astral Projection was Prue's actual power, not something you could just learn to do! Lol! I remember watching with my friend and we were like "Sooo since when can you learn how to use another power?? They'd never been able to do that any other time!" Anyway Paige says "The Astral Projection worked" and Piper says "Thank You Prue". It was her active power, they used a spell to do it. And in actual Wicca anyone can learn to astral project, it just takes a great load of skill. They needed a spell to do it, however Prue could use it on command. This wouldn't be the first time an active power was used as a spell either. Grams froze Piper with a spell.

By now you could write a giant book about each pov and reasoning for doing what they did. When it comes to Shannens depature I hear about 5 different stories. I can understand behind the scenes why they never showed her, but it doesn’t make sense on the series. That they never have any pics of Prue, why she’s not there for Wyatt or Chris’ wiccaning, why they never tried to summon her again, or that her spirit wouldn’t be there for Phoebe’s wedding. And Piper and Phoebe never mentioned wishing she was there for Phoebe’s wedding or the birth of Piper’s kids. Or that she wasn’t there anytime they called upon their ancestors.

I personally feel creatively speaking and the wat the show grew worse in later seasons...that they should have killed off Phoebe instead of Prue had it been due to their conflict like we all believe. Phoebes character is at its best in the first three seasons, had she died Prue would have felt like she failed her littlest sister, Piper would have had the same reaction she had to Prue's death, and Prue mentoring Paige would habe been awesome. Not to mention Paige's power is replicated by other elders, and i think whitelighters...leo literally calls for a mirror and it orbs there, not to mention he could orb people without speaking (he was an elder then) and paige's nephews could do bothe the telekinetic orbing and the normal telekenesis....had Paige got Phoebe's powers it would have been more interesting. Also in later seasons Piper really becomes a badass witch, just like Prue always was and to see them both at that level with Paige who honed her powers really quick would have been an unstoppable power of three. I also want to not that Shannen was very young when she was in Beverly Hills 90210 and ofcourse young people have conflicts, and as for charmed...she wasnt the only one to not get on with Alyssa so maybe Alyssa was the problem there 🤔

Never evaporated the actress that played the older sister many times did mention her during the series and how much she missed having Shannon Doherty character there. The very last episode forever Charmed they should have at least put a picture of Shannon doherty whereas the grandparents walking up the stairs at least they should of given her character and her her due respect she is a fantastic actress no matter what. Everybody moves on that's a part of life and if Miss Doherty wanted to move on that's her decision. The woman did make a huge imprint in the series itself. I wish you all the very best!

Although good the comic books weren’t on anything near the level of the show, I believe on the die-hard Charmed fans would have read them and they likey didn’t make anything close to what the show made, I don’t think Shannon would have seen much revenue from that even if they did pay to use her image…

Excuse me, Alyssa is the reason if why she was fired also the producer, then you wanted her to go back there just like that. You know she's working her butt there then the next she will hear she's fired because of that actor seriously! Well if I wer her too I wouldn't go back because of that actor who's whatever is the reason why I was fired. You know Shannen love her fans specially Charmed but knowing that what happen sorry I wouldn't accept that. Of course they should give justice to Prue of how they end her as in, just like that I don't think so you know Shannen/Prue could do a lot better if they didn't remove her as in, but some jealousy & insecure co-star I don't think so I would always be in Shannen's side no matter what that, & bias aside Shannen us still the best that. I'm surprised by her answer- it sounds like she really did consider going back for the finale. I wonder how they did want to bring Prue back(and why she thought it wasnt true to the character).
