The reason Wilder didnt want to fight Shannon is because Shannon was an A rated fighter. Wilder didnt fight A rated fighters in his earlier career. His camp built his resume that way. Notice Wilder didnt fight any of the fighters AJ fought,..... none! Wilder cant beat Anthony Parker, cant beat Takem, cant beat Andy Ruiz. He cant beat fighters that press him and aggressive, due to stamina issues. And that was exposed in the 1st fight with Fury.

Some famous trainers did have great pro careers George Benton, Roger Mayweather, Buddy McGirt, Ronnie Shields and Robert Garcia to name whilst some were decent solid pro's like Freddie Roach and Johnathan Banks whilst others like Emanuel Steward and Eddie Futch were great amateurs or others were good fighters in the army (Gil Clancy) or navy (Goody Petronelli) or others had strong associations within boxing gyms and picked up how to train from other trainers for example Cus D'Damato and Angelo Dundee. Trainers learn the basics from others but the great one's tend to be good motivators and communicators who can innovate and keep training entertaining never boring.

I was on Bomb squad team all the way until he started to have a excuse for everything. I love Wilder but man when you lose you just take it and use that to motivate you to come back stronger. That's why I loved Holyfield so much. HR would lose and next time he would get his. He never had any excuses ever. Same with Tyson, he got crushed by Lewis and took that loss even though he was not even near his prime. Those two guys were great. Same goes for Briggs. He came one punch away from knocking out Lewis in a great shootout. Even though he lost it was one of his best performances. Let's go champ! I hope Wilder just comes back galvanized and ready for war. No need to make excuses about a heavy costume. I lost some respect when I heard that but everyone is different when they first lose. The great ones are the ones that keep quiet and come back and get theirs. Wilder isn't done. He's done a lot in boxing and he will be back. I was hoping he would take one or two fights before going for Fury again. But he's got to get that huge pay day. I hope he knocks Fury out. I like Fury and he just plain beat up Wilder, I was blown away how he did what he says he would do. Props to Fury but I'm just a Wilder fan since 08, the excuses are very cringeworthy so hopefully he stops doing that. But in July anything can happen. I sparred with shannon briggs back around 92 at the Elizabeth PAL in Elizabeth NJ. I believe he was 2 or 3 and 0 at the time, if I remember correctly he said he was living down the road at the time in Linden NJ. . He was cool and way better than I was, we didn't go all out, he would have slaughtered me. He was a pretty nice guy, he didn't do that let's go chanp shit. BTW even throwing that right hand lightly u could feel it was heavy. It's good to see he is paying it forward and doing for others what was done for him.
