Only Shannon could finish a routine like that and be disappointed. I mean, that was incredible. Beautiful routine.

Shannon Miller is a pioneer, one of the most successful gymnast ever to come out of the United States. There was nothing Dominique accomplished that Shannon didn't do several times over, at the Olympics or elsewhere. Much as I loved Dominique, she burnt out after the '96 Olympics. A lot of that was because of circumstances beyond her control, but such is life. Domi had 2 highly successful years on the national team, whereas Shannon was a stalwart for 7 years. There is no comparison.

I loved Shannon Miller so much that I would do my hair with a white scrunchie in a bun and big curled bangs. And I would try to wear only tracksuits because I thought it made me look like I was on her team. And I tried to get leotards in my gymnastics class that reminded me of Shannon. Ahhh good pre-teen memories!!

Well, the commentators have been calling bhs' outs flip flops forever. And yes it was originally a front "flip" (piked or layed out would be specified) and I agree that Dominique did burn out quicker. Shannon was a staple in the sport for a long time..she was consistent from day 1, something no one else on the '96 team was able to accomplish more than 2 Olympics. Shannon is and always will be the Pioneer of USA gymnasts. Love her

That's Tim Daggett, an Olympic champion. As grating as I find his commentary nowadays, he knows what the moves are. To say that she did a front flip mount is neither wrong nor unclear. To say she did a flip flop into layouts also isn't inaccurate. It isn't necessary to be more specific to help the viewer understand. There's a fine line between giving enough information and too much. Being that nitpicky could get in the way of the performance and hinder the enjoyment of the viewer.

Just for people confused: a "flip flop" on beam means a back handspring step out

What are you talking about? Moceanu only made some events because Kerri Strug pulled out. One being kinda significant, oh wait what is it called? The All Around Finals!! And didn't Shannon Miller get a silver on that in the previous Olympics, and lose by the smallest margin ever? And Didn't she come back to Worlds the next year and win? And wasn't she fifteen? Huh, that kind of makes you wonder who was really jealous doesn't it?

Shannon is known for her grace and solid performances. Shannon became the first American to win an individual all-around in a non boycotted Olympics. And she was part of the Magnificent Seven team. Kids can look up to Shannon for inspiration.

Really? Because at the age of 15, Shannon Miller won 5 medals at the Barcelona Olympics. I'd say she accomplished plenty at a "young age." What is there to envy?

I watched a today's gymnast try the miller on bb. She couldn't do it. I've noticed no one really tries it. Has it been devalued or something. But I've noticed they doing easier stuff yet somehow it's worth a lot of points.

This is the real goat. I do not really see the hype about simone biles at all. She's good but nothing we haven't seen before from former gymnasts in the past. Joints are even too stiff. Maybe sprinting would be better.

@JamesFrew1 7 жыл бұрын
Britt Anne not really. It was the 90's, and the terms were interchangeable. The same goes for sports like tennis, where the announcers used terms like "breakpoints" which would never be used today. It's just the time period, it has nothing to do with education.

He's still the same he was soooooooo pro shannon and so critical of dawes. So were the judges dawes score was too low and shannon was an amazing gymnast but her scores were often inflated tim is the same now sooooooooooooooo pro simone and she is the greatest but acts like nobody else in gymnastics matters . He has not changed much

@@TheTimo5494 That is literally bull shit. He was pro Dawes. Shannon slightly moved her hips and it's. OH NO A BOBBLE. Dawes and her shit form, falls and it's a sob story. You're full of it. He was always pro Dawes. All the proof you need is him never pointing out her shit form, bent knee's and flat feet. Dominique bobbled 3 times and took a step on her dismount with no mention. He only brings it up when he hears Hill talk about it.

she just looked permanently unwell throughout the majority of her career - too pale, too thin. ESP when you compare the muscular body types of today's older gymnasts. thats one great thing about the age restriction of Olympic competitors - the gymnasts are older, its a more level playing field where they have more mature bodies - its the norm. and with simone biles, a new breed of gymnast is emerging - strong, muscular - and, as a result, much greater raw power - and talent comes from that
