@@emoneyizheresonMike Tomblin is a great head coach. I'm not one to pull a race card but Brandon Staley still having a job is incredible with how horrible he has been doing. Anthony Lynn did a better job and got canned because he didn't make the playoffs with a rookie Justin Herbert. Yet we kept Staley after he lost us the Raiders game to go to the playoffs and after he lost a 27-0 lead in the playoffs. It's time for Staley to go

It doesn't matter the Chargers don't have a run play action passing game that can eat up time on the clock. They also don't get a consistent rush that was disruptive enough in backfield of opposing offensive. You see you don't have to have sacks but if you can disrupt on most plays it will shut you down the offensive.

I'm tired of this argument that he has help that why he's successful then when those same player get hurt then he gets the blame. I'm not a 49er fan but people seem to go with a different narrative if they like someone or not. If Kelce wasn't playing for the chiefs,if diggs wasn't playing in Buffalo, Hill in Miami, etc etc this is basically his 2nd year in the league and was kinda the last pick in the draft.

@marcelsansalone3829 so that absolute dart to Aiyuk in stride on the go route right over the defenders hands was wide open? Purdy throws receivers open as much as they are wide open. You can’t criticize the guy for finding the wide open guy every play if there is always one. That being said, if you watch the games, this guy is deadly accurate. Not behind the receiver, almost always in stride right in the numbers for the YAC.

The fact that they don't think that you have to have good players around you to be a good QB is a joke. Every great QB in history has had great players around him making plays. That is the dumbest take I've ever heard them say on this show and trust me there has been a lot of them.
@bigsnap5
@bigsnap5 10 ай бұрын
I don't think that is their the point. They point they were making is the Brock Purdy wasn't able to win without his roster being fully in tact. An "Elite" QB tends to elevate the play of the players around them, if those players are elite. If you look at what Patrick Mahomes is doing in Kansas City, that is a great example. Their offense is nowhere near explosive this year because they don't have the talent at WR and teams are doubling Travis Kelce. So the defense is carrying KC this year, but when you watch KC play it's clear Mahomes is getting the best he can out of that WR core. Odds are in you were to switch out Mahomes and insert Brock Purdy on KC this season, I find it hard to believe KC has the same record they do now. Conversly if Mahomes plays in that same stretch that Purdy did without Deevbo, McCafferey, and Trent Williams, I would bet against SF performing like they did. I believe it is completely fair to describe Brock Purdy as a good quarterback and not as an Elite Quarterback.
@jamallayne436

I think we got spoiled by TB 12. Now alot of analysts act like if they can't elevate marginal players like he did their are getting carried by their support cast. It's a bit ridiculous but yeah it's pick and choose. Haven't ever heard someone say Mahones elevates recievers but he's special in his own way. Brock doesn't have that special throwing talent or altheticism but he's still great.

@@bigsnap5But theyre also clearly not watching the games. If they were watching it they’d be critiquing some of the chances he takes and how he needs to escape better. But they’re pretending like he’s throwing a 5 yard slant that becomes a TD, which if you watch the games simply isn’t happening. Secondly, it’s very hard to evaluate “making teammates better” because it’s subjective. And yeah obviously he’s not Mahomes, but nobody has said he is. I’m also not sure he’s the best example to use because Mahomes has arguably the best 5 year start of any QB ever. Thirdly, my problem with that, is it’s entirely based on hypotheticals, rather than what we actually see happening. If you put a QB on a completely different team with a different system and players, chances are, they’re gonna change how they play of ether team to have the most success.

People are saying fire Staley, you guys gotta use your braincells. It benefits you more having him there to tank for high recruit college players in next years draft. That's all that matters at this point. Keep Staley doing what he's doing till the end of the season.

First off, the question is "Has Purdy proven he's a star QB", not an elite one. And I can't believe Dan Orlovsky is the actual voice of reason in the Brock Purdy discussion. I don't believe Shannon is specifically hatin' on Purdy (because he's cool with Kyle Shanahan), but he does seem to be helping drive forward that negative national narrative on Purdy which is fueled by misinformation [ ie, by falsely implying that Purdy to Aiyuk's touchdown pass was 5 yards, and Aiyuk did the rest. Check the tape on all of his "long yardage" TD passes ]. With Stephen A, it's quite his M.O. to not give a guy like Purdy his credit for his obvious point guard like efficiency with running that NFL offense. Again, if he bothered to check the tape(s), he'd see that Purdy has consistent pressure in his face when he drops back to pass and he drops dimes under duress (he also throws questionable passes which sometimes turn into interceptions when under duress). The 49ers O-Line, apart from Trent Williams, is MAYBE mediocre at best. And Kyle Shanahan (nor his "system") DID NOT in any way, shape, form or fashion "elevate" Nick Mullens or C.J. Beathard. Ergo, are either one of them cats even still on an NFL roster???? What the agenda and narrative driven SAS fails to recognize [ with Brock Purdy ] is that it takes a high football IQ and arm talent to accomplish what Purdy has accomplished in his short NFL career. So, void of all the hypotheticals that the media types love to engage in (and I'm glad Dan called SAS out on it to some degree), Purdy's trajectory as a starting NFL QB does seem to warrant classifying him as, AT LEAST, a star QB.

My frustration with the Brock Purdy narrative is this notion that any QB wins without stars around them. The ONLY QB to do that was Tom Brady. But even he had Julian Edelman and Randy Moss at times. Troy Aikman had Smith and Irvin and a top-10 defense. Bradshaw had Stallworth, Swan, Harris, and Blier. The Chargers in the 80s had the most exciting offense ever. They didn't win anything because their defense was horrible. This narrative is stupid.

Edelman was never a star receiver. Lol it was literally Gronk and Moss who were the star pass catchers. Brady had brandin cooks for a season and that was it. Everyone else were an average receiver on the patriots.

It’s not hate, he’s just not top 5. He’s probably top 10. The Jimmy G comparison is more because Jimmy G is bad not because Purdy is elite. Also Jimmy G never really ran this offense with CMC in the backfield, that’s a huge difference maker. Another thing is that Purdy hasn’t really rallied from behind to win a game. I’ll give DO the point that the offense looks better than it did before Purdy got there, but that’s not only because of Purdy. Brock Purdy ranks this season: Air yards/attempt: 5.6 (1st) Passes with 20+ air yards: 43 (2nd) Passes with 30+ air yards: 17 (2nd) Passes with 40+ air yards: 7 (1st) Are we also gonna conveniently forget he was concussed in the game vs Minnesota. Cleveland is also the best defense in the league and he had them in position on they just missed a 41 yard FG. The thing that’s so frustrating is there legitimate criticisms you can make of him but they’re not doing it because they clearly aren’t watching the games. I mean you’re acting like he’s throwing a 5 yard slant that Deebo/McCaffrey takes 50 yards for a TD which is not what’s happening. You can say he takes too many chances. You can say he needs to find more than one way to escoae the pocket. Those are all valid critiques. But please don’t give me this YAC argument, which looks even more stupid when you realize the team that leads the NFL in YAC the last three years is the Chiefs.
