Before, I didn't put too much effort into my appearance. I didn't think it mattered. But, now I see the value in looking the part and being well dressed. I've since embarked on a style evolution journey. Instagram: / shantaesuffren

the before look was great tho. i like the outfit better. both is perfectly fine, just depends on what your style is. There are loads of rich girls who wear jeans and a crop top.

Totally get you. It's not my goal to look like a rich girl, per se. It's to be confident in my clothes and the clothes I had at the time didn't represent me well. More of it was about find who I am, what I like and then getting the clothes to match that. Hope that makes sense

I understand the message, if you look good you feel good and I love this for you! But why have natural short hair as an example of dressing badly and a fake straight wig dressing well? Natural hair is classy and im tired of it being equated to poverty, immaturity or masculinity. Do what you'd like with your own hair, of course. But us black women need to retire this narrative that hurts our own image

Hey, I totally understand. However, this journey of learning to dress simple coincided with another journey - where I focus on growing my natural hair. I'm using wigs as my main protective style. I talk more about this on my instagram, just getting back on KZbin so I didn't get that talk about that as yet on here. Here's a link to that series - instagram.com/p/DAjGSuvuHzN/

@ShantaeSuffren Protecting your hair is great in whichever way you choose. In future videos and video thumbnails are you able to include examples of well-dressed women in natural hair styles too (even if not on yourself)? Natural texture wigs exist too and look great! As a black girl I thought the only way to glow up was to wear straight hair because that's what media portrays. I think its important for black women to let young black girls know that beauty comes from enhancing your own, natural features. Wearing straight hair is your own choice, but we must not make it seem like it is the standard of beauty or femininity.
