Shantideva's Bodhisattva Way of Life (Bodhicaryavatara): Buddhist Chant

This is a rare and a brilliant collection. People call me as a Buddhist scholar but I m not aware of this kind of chantings do exist in present India. This kind of mahayana chanting is extremly rare and priceless. I admire who made this and collected for good. @@Samudbhava Baul is not a "type of singing" . Baul are a group of people who adhere to a lifestyle. They are from my home state of West Bengal. And they have very little to nothing to do with "Mahayana Chantings". My state of west bengal and neither of Assam and Tripura are NOT the places where "Buddha was born and raised" . Buddha's activities were in Bihar , mostly Rajgir , Gaya etc. The impact or influence of Baul on Buddhism is little to nothing. This song is being sung by Vidya Rao, the mother of actress Aditi Rao Hyderi . She is known for singing the bhajans of Sant Kabir, Tulsidas and other awadhi saints and as you might know.....AWADH(Ayodhya) is far from Bengal . I believe this is taken from her album "Dharma Nada" but I am not sure of this. That being said I am not trying to diminish the impact of Baul on the bengali culture . Bauls like Lalan Fakir inspired many songs of Rabindranath Tagore and his tunes are still in common use in Bengal. They are similar to Sufi saints and played an important role in the movement for equality and abolishment of caste structures in Colonial Bengali society. Many a times when we have festivals or cultural gatherings, the baul artists are invited to perform .

When I hear this I am reminded of T.S.Eliotts words in "Preludes": "I am moved by fancies that are curled Around these images, and cling: The notion of some infinitely gentle Infinitely suffering thing" Vidya Rao conveys all the yearning, the joy and the desire for release from suffering in her voice.It is truely an inspirational offering which fully expresses the sentiments in the Bodhicaryavatrara.

The Bodhisattva way of life, is made out of verses made by Shantideva, and chapter two is titled the confession of sins, as I know she is beginning at verse number one, and unsure until until what verse she shings ( there are 65 verses ) I have a feeling she is singing the first 11. Anyone who is interested in the rest of the text can ask me. In order to adopt that jewel of mind, I make offerings to the Thatagatas, to the stainless jewel of the sublime Dharma, and to the Children of the Buddhas, who are oceans of excellent qualities. As many flowers, fruits and medicinial herbs as there are, and as many jewels as there are in the world, and clear and pleasant waters, jeweled mountains, forested regions, and other delightful and solitary places, vines shining with ornaments of lovely flowers, and trees branches bowed with delicious fruit, fragrances and inceses, wish fulling trees, jeweled trees, lakes adorned with lotuses, enchanting calles of wild geese in the worlds in he worlds of gods and other celestials, uncultivated crops, planted crops, and other things that ornament the venerable ones, all these are that are unowned and that extend throughout space. I bring to mind and offer to the Foremost of Sagas together with their Children. May those worthy of precious gifts, the greatly merciful ones, compassionate towards me, accept these from me. Devoid of merit and destitute, I have nothing else to offer. Therefore, may the Protectors, whose concerns are for the welfare of others, accept this by their own power for my sake. I completely offer my enitre self to the Jinas and their Children. O Supreme beings, accept me ! I reverently devot myself to your service. Beings free from fear of mudane exsistence due to your protection, shall serve sentient beings; I shall completely transcend my earlier vices, and henceforth I shall sin no more. In sweetly fragrant bathing chambers whose beautiful pillars are radiant with jewels, glowing canopies made of pearls, and crystal floors transparant and sparkling, I bathe the Thatagatas and their Children with many vases studed with superb jewels and filled with pleasing, fragrant flowers and water, to the accompaniment of songs and instrumental music.
