You can only damage it enough to the point where it gets so pissed off that it tries to unleash a supremely powerful attack to obliterate you...only to perish when its own body can no longer handle its massive power, and it kills itself.

While on their expedition, all of their airships are taken down by an unknown Elder Dragon." "Nicknamed the Heavenly Flying Dragon, Shantien is an Elder Dragon that was long thought to be a myth because of it spending most its time high in the sky, beyond the reach of other monsters. In legend, it is said to combine its great beauty with terrible powers." "Shantien does have wings, but it doesn't use them for flight. Shantien produces compressed air in its body and releases it out of its hairs in the form of blue particles, allowing it to levitate and fly at extortionary speeds at high altitudes." "The organs inside of its body that process this compressed air are the reason why Shantien glistens and parts of its body will glow as it increases the production of its blue particles. Its wings will also enlarge when it takes to the sky." "Shantien is a highly aggressive Elder Dragon that'll attack anything that enters its territory in the high skies, including the Large Exploration Ship. It'll start out relatively calm when it first encounters something, but its aggression will increase as time passes." "As Shantien's anger and rage increase, it'll slowly begin to reveal its true power. At first, Shantien spends its time biting and swiping at hunters on the deck of the Large Exploration, but soon that changes as it sustains injuries in combat." "When enraged, it'll take to the sky and change the weather around it, creating a massive thunderstorm. Just like Amatsu, the intensity of the storm will increase as it gets angrier. It is said that it uses its wings or the blue particles to change the weather around it." "Inside of its body is two different elemental sacs, a water and an electrical sac. With these two sacs, Shantien can use both water and thunder element attacks against enemies, plus the thunderstorm around it enhances its abilities greatly." "If Shantien becomes greatly enraged, it'll destroy the Large Exploration Ship's engines, causing the vessel to fall into a volcano. One would think that Shantien wouldn't follow the hunters at this point, but its shell is fireproof because of a hidden ability it has." "Although Shantien is already extremely powerful, it has a third elemental sac that no one expected it to have. Originally, the Tenshou (Japanese 天翔) Element was teased as a combination of Thunder and Water, but it turned out to be a combination of three elements." "The Tenshou Element is a combination of Fire (30%), Water (100%), and Thunder (70%). Shantien has a weak flame sac, but its power over fire is enhanced while it is in a volcanic area, and Shantien's home is near an active volcano." "Shantien's appearance will change from the environment's heat, and it'll use its wind aura, which is controlled by its horns, to surround itself in the area's embers. Since it has a weak flame sac, it'll mostly use its surroundings to its advantage and combine its attacks." "Shantien's power is comparable to the strongest Elder Dragons in the series, making it one of the strongest monsters in the entire series, despite not being a Black Dragon. Ultimately, Shantien's own power is what kills it at the end..." "If Shantien has sustained many injuries in its battle and tries to use one more powerful attack, it'll ultimately kill itself with its own power at the end. Electricity will implode in its body, killing it instantly." "Before Monster Hunter Frontier G2, Shantien was planned to be the final monster to be released in Monster Hunter Frontier G1. When I first heard Shantien's themes, I've never even played Monster Hunter, yet this part 8:24 almost made me cry. I just love how the melody conveys power, beauty, godliness, and even a hint of sadness all at once. Absolutely amazing piece of music. Odibatras and Shantien's music is what convinced me to play Monster Hunter.

I read the comments while listening to this. People were praising this as the BEST MH soundtrack ever. Phase 4 had me almost tear up. I sat here a few hours ago fixing driver update problems that made me have no sound. Right now in the evening I'm sitting here and just enjoy this gift from god. So after all... yes. This IS the best soundtrack in all of Monster Hunter. And shiver me timbers, I'm so glad I clicked on this video.

This one. I miss this one a lot. I've almost cried hearing the phase 4 theme before, it's just such a beautiful song for such an amazing final phase to a fight. Shantien is something I will remember when I think of my best moments in MH.

In Phase 1, Shantien is gauging you. Seeing your strength. Phase 2, Shantien is toying with you, as it sees you as lacking strength. Phase 3, Shantien acknowledges your strength and wants to give you a fair fight. Phase 4, Shantien sees you as an equal and is ready to fight to the death, so he unleashes his full might.

when i clicked on this vid, i had never heard this theme before. the wind chimes kicked in and i thought, "this thing is old. it is mystical and graceful but with the drums, there was an underlying tone of both power and ferocity." by the 3rd phase, the sense of wonder changes to dread and impending doom when the horns started droning. sure enough, by the final phase i could feel the terrror that this thing could instill upon humanity and the world as a whole. i love this theme so much!

This theme really evokes the naval battle vibes. Or in this case, airship battle. Like, I’d see this fitting in a scenario where you’re fighting against a kraken in a stormy dark night amidst the choppy treacherous waters of the sea Edit: second half turned into a wuxia show soundtrack lol

Something in his face is a liiiitle bit derpy but he doesn’t suffer from as much of an over-designing issue that many of Frontiers monsters have. He’s on the list of Frontier monsters I’d love to see come westward
