I hiked in there about 20 years ago. Didn't catch any fish then either but didn't fish long. Saw tons if minnows in the shallows Suspect the fish in there are well fed. Found an area between the ponds where someone must have left a fire going and the duff was burned about 16" deep in a 30 foot circumference. Enjoyed your video

Just connected CountyLine Book to Mud Ponds and then Shanty brook today with my hiking bear-dog Ruby. 14.x miles with the road walk around. Was looking for campsites on Mud Ponds. Thinking about this video and glad it didn't rain because it looked like it was going to rain hard just as I arrived between the two Mud Ponds.

As much as I like the idea of having a digital camera to shoot video you can’t deny the simplicity and effectiveness of using your phone. My camera was barely operable in these conditions and you’ve got a very healthy amount of footage!!

I've hiked that trail to mud pond at least 30 years ago . It's a shame they took down the cable crossing

Was it removed or did it just fall into disrepair? Beautiful area!

Yo, Birch Bark Man needs to stop lurking outside my window. Seriously. Because I most absolutely have put a sleeve of birch bark over my head and chasing my puppy around last winter. I tried to turn it itno a lampshade but puppy ate it.

So a buddy and I are thinking about going back in there in a week, Is the trail into the Ponds obvious and clear (since there are no markers)? Is there a trail that continues to the other side of the pond or the furthest pond, to get far back in the wilderness?
@NatureIntoAction4 жыл бұрын
The trail was clear up to the stream crossing for those who were going up the mountain. We could see the trail across the stream but I didn't explore it further. There were a few walking sticks leaning on a tree at the crossing. We didn't cross the stream because we went to Mud Pond and just walked through the forest without trail to get to it.. Good luck. It's a beautiful area to explore.

my guess about the fishing is that you weren't doing anything wrong, but you were just there at a time when the trout weren't. a week earlier or later and the same place might have been loaded with them. who knows? it takes years and many trips around the same area to really learn their patterns. if you're in unfamiliar territory, some say a water thermometer is essential gear to the trout fisherman. if the water temp is not in the right range, don't even bother fishing that spot. i've never used one, but it makes sense i guess.

right on, I hope so. Below the falls especially looked good. Suppose it is the fun and challenge of traveling to new places. thanks for the message and watching 👍

How many miles in?

gps said 4.3 to center of mudponds but we explored a bit along the way and the intense rain made the trail a bit hard to recognize.
