You're crossing your legs, hopping in air, giving your back to your opponent(s), putting too much weight on one leg, stance is too wide sometimes, the spear tip should always be facing your opponent(s)

I know a bit of Chinese lance and spear,the whole set of movement is not for single situation.There are body conditioning moves,and some application moves.In history shaolin monks trained to fight against bandits,so there is actual not much stance and "hold" stuff in application,unlike the military one,in a war,Chinese use long spear but not this.The narrator is bit of misleading.The front hopping,is designed for against longer spear,when spear touches,you keep enemy spear away from your center(blocking),then hop in tracing the center line so he can't step back quick enough to keep you in his effective range,and your body weight and momentum make him impossible to push you side way, when gap closed, stab.Turning is for surprise attack from behind,you can't turn quickly when sticking out,so you grab upper part,turn and step forward for reach .For normal case,its the move in 0:11 and 1:47 1:05. Two cases,enemy attack high,you raise it,then stab back,enemy attack low,you push it side way then stab.you don't keep the "wide stand",but shrink and expand for more power and reach.For strike downs,its not for body strike but tracing enemy spear to its forehand.If enemy lose his grip ,forward,if not,go for the arms.Other than that,hopping and turning is for balance training,unlike in battlefield,enemies are not always in front of you,you need to train how to turn quickly and bluffing as a shaolin monk.In a war,this form and spear is useless because of armor and formation.

Naw his form is pretty solid and in most fighting styles a jump is quite useful in switching sides or adding power to your attacks it can even throw of an opponent
