After years of researches & development and many challenges, Bruce Lee developed his own style (his personal expression of the martial arts), called Jeet Kune Do (JKD), based on the philosophy of efficiency & effectiveness (minimum movements with maximum damage). Here are some of Bruce Lee’s famous quotes: “Chinese Kung Fu, they look good, but the don’t work.” Bruce started with Wing Chun as his core art, but by the time he developed Jeet Kune Do, he had already discarded many of techniques of Wing Chun, and only keep few most effective & efficient techniques. “Absorb What Is Useful. Discard What Is Useless. Add What Is Specifically Your Own.” The art of Jeet Kune Do, is a well researched, well battle tested martial art. Today it is known as MMA. Bruce Lee was already researched and trained “MMA” back in the 60s to up to early 70s, until his untimely death in 1973. All these Shaolin demonstrations is only look good as a colorless & fancy show. In real combat, if one is doing these movie stuffs with flipping, high kicks without any power, and many other moves we see here, one would be defeated very quickly and will get badly hurt or even get killed. Too flashy. Only good for entertainment.

Your point of view is correct, the real actual combat is a life-and-death contest, and the opponent must be defeated with the most concise blow. In order to knock down opponents, you are not limited to using any tools or stones within your reach. With the evolution of time, modern warfare has emerged. No matter how many Bruce Lees, they are no match for AK47. There is a Chinese saying: No matter how skilled you are, you are afraid of kitchen knives.

@@ShaolinTempleOfficial I myself have been training in mixed martial since the 80s, long before it became a household name. Since the beginning I am also training in the weaponry (traditional martial arts weapons, including Filipino Kali, and training in all sort of firearms). One must be always ready for combat & be ready to defense oneself with weapons or with barehands.

Ironically, Bruce Lee was a movie actor with no actual record or proof of professional or even amateur fighting, unless you count the Hong Kong boxing tournament he was in as a kid which appeared to be a one off, not something he kept up. Could say more, but you get the picture, not the best example to be bringing up. I don't think Bruce Lee's general martial skill is on these monks' level or we would have seen it in his films

I don't know... one of our Shaolin disciples took out an entire TKD Sparring Tournament with ease using Shaolin techniques, and then later another student did the same thing at a full-on Kung Fu tournament of all styles, he took first in forms, first in sparring and won the title grand champion of the tournament. I've sparred with people of other styles and have had no issues often finding them really easy to read and outmaneuver. Bruce actually learned Tai Chi first, his philosophy of throwing away what is not useful to him is partly flawed. See every fighter will find something that works more for them and some things that will take much more time to fully understand. With Shaolin Kung Fu, I see so many different styles and each style has many techniques that work if you take the time to apply them and think through the applications work out the mechanics of each movement and the best angles to set up each technique. eventually, it flows freely in sparring and actual combat though in the beginning it can be awkward. FORMS are called forms because they form you into a new person they mold you to move differently than you previously moved. Bruce stuck with what worked for him then refined it and that's great it worked for him, but I've seen things that work for other students that might not work as well for another. That's why the Shaolin have many styles. They too threw away what doesn't work an kept a huge library of forms that do. They traveled and collected exclectic styles from various villages like Lo Family Spear, Chen Family Tai Chi etc... One day I decided to drill one movement out of Pakua Chang (Baguazhang) Virgin Donates the book, I only drilled one fo the applications for this movement about 8 to 10 times mind you, but class started we did the warm ups then it was time for sparring and Kirpatrick a much larger guy came in tried to punch I slipped it with that exact movement almost instinctively after having drilled the movement just a few times he practically walked his nose into my palm as I side slipped past his attack and I felt bad as I wasn't expecting it to work so well. Baguazhang is one of the styles retained by the Shaolin, in fact they have multiple stules of it including Snake Pakua, Dragon Pakua, 8 Animal Pakua, Pakua staff, pakua spear etc and many more including the original form as well. See things worked out for Bruce because he was good at reading his opponents and had quick movement and good conservation of movement but had more fights gone bad he'd have realized like Jacki Chan's Character Wong fei Hung in Drunken Master that perhaps the style he needed to defeat a particular opponent was the style he never bothered to learn.

Everybody knows that traditional chinese kung fu isn't very practical in fighting, but it looks freaking cool haha, that's why its still alive, Bruce lee started with wing chun, but he realised "wtf, this chinese kung fu dosent work, I'll fix it myself", He originally did (traditional) wing chun, which is also not good in fighting. Morden wing chun is very good for fighting but it wasn't popular back in the days. So he founded jeet kune do
