17:01 i think you meant a pyramidal shape not tetrahedral and fluorine atoms instead of chlorine atoms...

On Q3 would it not form a pyramidal shape, due to the fact that it is 3 bonding pairs and 1 lone pair?

Question 3 should be triagonal pyramidial as it has one lone pair and 3 bond pairs also is it alright to say OF6 can't form because they are both strongly electronegative?

14:48 isnt it supposed to be a triple bond because it is nitrogen
@redalam312
@redalam312 5 жыл бұрын
Nitrogen forms 3 bonds maximum, so a diatomic molecule of nitrogen (N2) will have a triple bond. Since each nitrogen in the structure has already formed 2 covalent bonds with hydrogen atoms, this leaves one remaining bond which is used to bond to another nitrogen. (Each of the shared pair of electrons signifies a covalent bond) Therefore, fulfilling the role that nitrogen forms 3 covalent bonds.

Y cant oxygen expand it's octate?
@lyricvideos166
@lyricvideos166 4 жыл бұрын
Oxygen has no empty orbitals, It only has orbitals up to 2p which contains 4 electrons. expanding the octet usually happens when the atoms excite their electrons; oxygen doesn't have the orbitals to do that
