you said it. Excellent summary on SLS and the the state of Shapeways and how they got here

The Prusament that I have had so far - although a bit pricey, is really top notch. If you're chasing perfectly stacked layers and need a great material to work with, I agree they do a great job. I need an excuse to buy some of their rPLA filament; the natural tones combined with the slight variance of the color looks like a great effect.

Thank you for telling the truth about PCBWAY, the shipping kills the affordability of the process.

"Thank you for telling the truth about PCBWAY, the shipping kills the affordability of the process." Haha...I haven't listened to this whole video...just saw your post. Been on the tear to try and find a replacement for Shapeways and put in a trial order with PCBway. Yeah...initial print cost seems really good...but like you say, once you factor in their shipping methods/costs....still costs more than what Shapeways did.

We are in a revolution of Designing for 3d printing both SLA and FDM. And Another revolution is SUPPORTING THESE technologies.

@@3DMusketeers Support, Hahah, Actual supports, how to support the models themselves, There has been a revolution over the last 5 years on how to do that. The procedures for FDM and SLA are 180 degrees different. Do you remember how FDM prints were supported in 2017 and Digging your prints out ?.. Been around since Air Wolf..2011....

39:14 - well, printer toner is self-contained in the cartridge that you swap out, so if you don't do anything totally stupid it's not really a problem. But I imagine with SLS, you still have to take the part out and clean it, so containing it in the same way as a toner cartridge isn't really possible.

@46:48 "Makerbot was making the best stuff" - are you HIGH?!?! Bre Pettis was a thief and making those things out of laser cut wood! He patented other peoples OPEN SOURCE tech and called it his own to sell! We in the RepRap community were winding our own hot ends at making heated build plates out of circuit boards at that time and helping out each other with So much better tech than he was selling!! Those printers were GARBAGE!! Joeseph Prusa actually had a version of the Mendel design he refined and was named for him WELL BEFORE he ever started selling his innovations. I don't know when YOU actually "got into it", but many of us were REALLY there and remember the correct history!!

No need to yell.. I built my first printer in 2008, so I have been doing it for quite some time. For an off the shelf printer, came with everything you needed, the Replicator, even the 2 was leaps and bounds above most. Did Bre do some shady things, yes, and he lost a lot of credibility for it. Heck, the crappy thing o matic was decent for the time, at least when our ambient humidity was low enough. Was the pure DIY doing better, of course, and I argue it still is today.

@@3DMusketeers LOL - Sorry - wasn't trying to yell. I've been building my own since a little after that time as well, and I'm a bit passionate when someone brings up the M word... let alone say they were making the best stuff. As your statement went on though, YES, Bre was all about the money at the end, and being a maker for most of us .....Its about the community and the build. I never had a thing-o-matic and I live in SC where the humidity isn't AS BAD as FL so I really cant comment on that. I still am doing the pure DIY thing, and I think the VORON team is awesome for their contributions to the hobby - as I have used some of their innovations on my custom builds! In fact, that's how I found your channel. I just couldn't digest that statement about MB being "all that". Thanks for the reply Grant!!

lol, just let it play a bit more, I get into it.. I cannot think of a better printer that you could buy and came with everything at the time.. So that is why I said it. The purpose of it all was to compare it to the Stratasys buyout of MB, for that kind of money, most would be fine with being vilified ha ha.

Ultimaker comes to mind as another printer that really didn’t age well. Not especially reliable and way too expensive for the feature set. They just kept making new slight variations of the same machine with no real improvements.
@jeffpara9113
@jeffpara9113 27 күн бұрын
@@rainmannoodles YES!! I remember when they first came out - I was like "That's AWESOME" !! First ones looked like big Makerbots with a better XY system, then they got real expensive and like you said really stopped innovating.
