In this video we are continuing with our custom Mauser build by Shaping a Military Mauser action to resemble a commercial receiver by removing the Stripper hump (Boss) and recontouring the front receiver ring.

Some, but not as much as Mausers. All the basic principles are the same though.

You are correct. M98 over the counter Mauser scope bases are generally cut to match one particular Mauser action design the FN commercial Mauser. When we surface grind the receiver, we are trying to better match the Military receiver to the commercial FN design. For instance, the Weaver bases will not fit all 98 Military style Mausers because of this. One of the problems that need to be overcome is the stripper boss that we remove in this video, since the commercial Mausers generally didn't have them most of the bases on the market will not properly fit a Military Mauser unless you remove the stripper boss or fit the rear base to the action. Because of that, any Military Mauser should have the bases fit to the receiver. Contouring the action on the surface grinder makes this process easier since you are keeping the original profiles (with the exception of the stripper boss) and just lowering the front and rear ring and truing it up. Everything is now flat and square to the action and the only fitting that may be necessary is the height. Which could be easily shimmed or lapped to the receiver. (sorry for the long explanation) Thanks for watching and thanks for your comments. Very relevant!

@@Turnbullcustomguns The explanation was fine. I used to buy from pawn shops Mauser 98 rifles to strip off everything for the actions then turn them into amazing and beautiful hunting rifles to sell at gun shows. Now the commie KKK democrats and dementia China Joe have violated the constitution and made it a problem for me to sell complete guns I am doing AR 15 and AR 10 uppers in nonstandard cartridge chamberings for the ARs and reloader cartridges. I am doing for sale all of the WSM cartridges in AR 10 uppers with an AR 10 375 WSM upper and currently doing for a hunter in the Midwest his AR 10 upper in 250 Savage and I have going to another AR 10 upper in 6mm-284 Win and an AR 15 upper in the works to be 7.92x33 Kurz the Nazi Germany cartridges for the STG 44. With the 6.5 mm today a big fad I do an AR 10 upper in 6.5-284 Norma and 6.5PRC in the AR 10 or another is 6.8Western AR 10 upper. The AR 10 uppers I do in 7mm WSM and 300 WSM sell very fast and when seen at the guns shows people take a double look because most always think of the AR 10 in 308 or the 6.5 Needmoor power.

Do you now have to reharden the reciever ? / heat treat ?
@Turnbullcustomguns2 ай бұрын
Nope, the surface of the 98 Mauser actions are not case hardened. So you are not removing a layer of harder material that would give the receiver additional strength.
