Total lost from a fire that started in upper apartment. Why didn't command have Trench Cuts done through the Roof to stop the fire in the Original Section.

One of many many questions lawyers from insurance companies will ask in court to the fire department. They better get ready because I'm sure there is a case for a few millions lawsuit against them.

I'm pretty sure those lawyers would also make a case, if they had made that trench cut, or just bulldozed a unit to create a firebreak. They should prosecute or sue the architect and the builder; that attic was a fuse that spread the fire faster than the FD could fight it. A proper firewall, reaching to at least the top of the roof, would have limited the damage to only the one original unit.

How do you sue an architect that designed a building in 1970's and built it to the fire and building codes of the 1970's ? A building that had to be approved by the city building department. This design was very common throughout the country. As a retired fire Lt. I have to point blame at the FD. One article stated " Engine 39 had water on the original fire in a few minutes after arrival and put that fire out. Unfortunately the fire was already into the Mansard on our arrival. " That statement right there tells me that Engine 39 failed to check for extension. The fire is not "put out" until the fire trucks all go home.

Crazy fire! Fairfax Va had a bad apartment complex fire a couple months ago just not as bad as this one.

Well your not wrong about the boy part. I was there when it happened, I lived in that apartment building for 2 years and never in my life I would had to experience that. This fire all started because a 11-12 year old boy decided to play with a lighter and whoopty doo he lit the carpets inside the hallway building on fire. So that’s what had happened and I will never forget July 18, 2018

Very difficult to fight a fire when you have to wait for the fire to burn through the roof before you can get water on it.

Wait to get a Tower up when you could have Deck Gunned it within Seconds after arrival. One unit had a small fire on arrival and they burned the entire building down.

As far as I see the owners cut corners to save $ and did not put fire walls in the attic /roof. Very poor construction of attic area. This should have never happened!
