For such a great player, Shaq is definitely one of the more sensitive people in sports, something that has translated over hilariously to TV during his time on Inside The NBA. I am not sure who should have won the 2005 MVP, but it's always funny seeing how angry Shaq still is about losing it to Steve Nash. Also, I definitely agree with Shaq that him and Kobe should have more combined MVP's than Steve Nash, that's crazy...

The sad part is that Shaq absolutely should have back to back MVPs, but he never complains about Iverson's in 2001 which was a legitimate robbery. He's so fixated on Nash's for some reason.

@@TheMilapMehta legitimate robbery? Shaq played lazy defense that year, both had equally good offensive productivity with Iverson being the leading scorer and leading the sixers to the first seed, I'd say Iverson deserves it plenty.
@TheMilapMehta
@TheMilapMehta 2 жыл бұрын
@@ncm2738 Lazy based on what? His defensive rate was 101 in 2001 which is the same as his career average. His per 36 steals and blocks are right in line with his career averages too. His MVP season in 2000 was the best defensive season of his career, but he just regressed to his norm. Also, did you ever watch Iverson play? Dude played the passing lanes and nothing else. He was a turnstile on defense so you have no justificaiton in bringing that up. They were also not equal in production. Iverson scored 2.4 more points per game, but needed 6.3 more shot attempts. Shaq had more stocks, more rebounds, better true shooting percentage, more win shares, played in the tougher conference and had to deal with more injuries on his team. There is no argument for Iverson so learn to accept that.
@ncm2738
@ncm2738 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheMilapMehta Yes but look at the context. The sixers were an elite defensive team but had nothing on the offensive side. That's mostly why Iverson wasn't as efficient, Shaq had fucking Kobe, Iverson had McKie. Iverson was more valuable to his team than Shaq.

Shaq could be in MVP conversation during 2000-04 he could have his argument with Allen Iverson, Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett. But starting from 04 Shaq started to decline. Nash won MVP in 05 and 06. Before Nash joined the Suns, Suns had the record of 29-53, then he joined in 04-05 season and Suns had the record of 62-20, Nash Averaged 15.5ppg, 3.3reb, 11.5ast, shooting 50-43-89. While Shaq was 22.9ppg, 10.4reb, 2.7ast, shooting 60-00-46. Next year Nash improved to 18.8ppg, 4.2rpb, 10.5apg, shooting 51-44-92 (yes 50-40-90 club). While Shaq declined even more 20.0ppg, 9.2rpg, 1.9apg, shooting 60-00-47. But reason for MVP for Steve Nash goes beyond raw personal numbers. According to some advanced stats Amare Stoudemire and Shawn Marion had some advanced rating above Nash, but they both were in Phoenix before Nash joined them and still had terrible season record. Nash's presence on a team just improved everybody around him, that's why he's MVP.

I agree. A very common criteria in MVP voting is rewarding the best player on the team with the highest record. Phoenix was smoking hot that year and dazzled everyone with their Run and Gun style of play, and Steve Nash was undoubtedly the engine of that train, not Amare or Marion. It's really as simple as that, forget the conspiracies, Nash deserved it.

Nash's MVP seasons will always be underappreciated because people watching the NBA today didn't get to see how every single Phoenix match was led by his decisions, he was the entire engine that ran the Suns. To anyone saying he didn't deserve it i recommend watching the Nash's Suns vs Kidd's Nets game that NBA posted on their official channel, in it's entirety. Or watch the game where Nash killed Kobe's Lakers in the playoffs. He was one of the most deserving MVP's of the last 20 years, and i'd dare say, the second best point guard behind Curry. Sure, the numbers speak for Westbrook, but Nash was the more efficient, impactful in ways only the advanced stats can show you, sacrificing his own personal numbers for plays that he ran.

i always say this to make them understand..there were some games that SUNS were winning by 12 points and NASH would go to the bench and their GAP would go to just 2 points. HE got back and they would start scoring again. IN those 2 seasons NASH missed 11 games (counting a game that he got injured in the beggining of the game). IN 11 games they only won 2 games and 1 of them was by 1 point. A team that wins 62 games losses every game that NASH misses shows how important he was.

NASH is the best PG since 2000...better then CURRY ...CURRY just had a green light to shoot a lot in a TANKING ERA and SMALL BALL ERA. NASH nowdays with all this space and no BIGS waiting in the paint with 10 3 point attempts would dominate this league as well..

Shaq was great in that first year of Miami but the voting for that 2005 MVP was way too close for what actually happened. The Suns literally went from 29 wins to winning 60+ games in the West with the addition of Nash and the Heat went from 44 wins to nearly 60. Keep in mind the Heat at that time had Wade and they were pretty close to the ECF the following year. The fact that only a handful of votes could've gave Shaq that MVP is just mind boggling.
