I just wish you’d sit with Shaq and have this conversation. See how’d go. People pick at Shaq like he doesn’t know the game or something. The man is one of the greatest to ever do it. He knows basketball. His thoughts on today’s game is because guys like gobert aren’t built like him and he doesn’t score. Him getting so much money for just being a deterrent probably seems bizarre to a guy who was such a generational talent like Shaq. If the rules were changed to a more aggressive physical game I’d be interested to see Gobert’s impact on the court. If he’d be in the paint banging around.

For those of you that didn't grow up with Shaq, he's always been like this. He thinks a center making more money than him or getting any sort of attention is somehow a critism against him. He hated on Dwight Howard, hated on Javale McGee, hates on Rudy. The only center he didn't hate on was Embiid. For a while he hated on Jokic, calling him a soft euro. Honestly, Shaq would get torched in todays game. He would get 6 offensive fouls before half-time and if he didn't he definitely wouldn't be able to guard the best players in todays league on the perimeter like Gobert or Wemby. Shaq came into the league at the perfect time, class of 92'. Before the league realized that skill at basketball was actually important.

One of the most successful players, and one of the insecure players. Yes, I love what he does for the communities, but him being a little insecure about Gobert speaks volume about his knowledge about the players.

Shaq should learn a crazy concept called inflation so he doesn’t keep acting like a salty old man

He clearly feels like the center play isn’t up to par as it used to be and feels like the pay doesn’t reflect the numbers. I feel like every generation of athletes has a little bit of that.

Gobert almost never GET'S to shut down 1 player coaches prefer to use him to shut down paint to all instead with very few exceptions. In fact look up "Luka v Rudy late in 4th" it shows Luka go at Rudy 4-5 straight times to determine the game and coach didnt bring help or switch out Rudy just 2 studs on an island for the game. Rare situation when Rudy was best used to shut down 1 guy since it was Luka time.

I remember Shaq complaining about Wilt & Kareem were too critical of him before he won his first ring. Now he being overly critical of Rudy who’s has quietly put together a hall of fame career

Shaq/Old Players thinking they could score 12 rn, when they finished their career averaging barely 9ppg (or in Paul Pierce’s case 3) when they were still in their athletic shape. If they got on court now their bones would snap

More basketball knowledge unpacked in this video than anything Shaq has spewed. Obviously he has in-game experience but that has not translated into the booth at all. I'd rather see you in the booth with Ernie, Kenny, and Chuck.

I think the "Gobert is an overrated defender" thing comes from a lack of recognition for other arguably better defenders in today's league. The media members who vote for the awards clearly don't watch a lot of basketball and have little understanding of defense so they just give it to the guy with the most blocks. That's why we so rarely get perimeter players winning DPOY. Smart had to make a big deal about it to get their attention.

I don’t even see peak Shaq keeping Jokic under 15 points, much less Rudy. Jokic isn’t gonna stay in or go straight to the paint if Shaq is on him. He’ll go the three line or stay in the mid-range

In last year's playoffs jokic averaged 26/12/9 on 58% TS against gobert. Against Bam it was 30/14/7 on 67% TS😅

The era of dominance centers ended with Shaq retirement, until jockic came along and plays the point center and Rudy Gilbert is three time DoPY , yes that great

if u think about it, it's really easy to make shaq hate a certain player, just say that "player A is the most dominant player i've ever seen" and now sit back and enjoy because shaq about to keep hating on that player for the rest of his life 😂

Again man context... You can't use the argument "if Mutumbo, Hakeem, Duncan" etc played in an era where the game was more perimeter oriented without also saying rudy Gobert is a great interior defender in an era where very few bigs dominate from the block. Its the same argument with Wemby, people keep calling him a great defender. He's a great shot blocker who's still not a great defender. People for years talked about Steven Adams strength and interior defense. The man has no idea of how to guard the low block and I can show you clip after clip of him having no idea and no plan when a guy with a real post game caught an entry on the low block. For a guy like Shaq to look at Gobert and say, well, he's not a great block defender based on the era I played in and in this era you can't play drop with him, you can't switch with him. You can't blitz him extended. So he's less versitile version of Marcus Camby? They only gave Camby DPOY once?

Rudy couldn't guard players like Shaq, Ewing or Hakeem. But he's a great defender in today's game. Different players are suited for different eras.
