It just so happens there is a little overlap between his statistical greatness and the stars he discusses on the show. It’s also a big reason for hiring him. If he didn’t do that it would be like an elephant in the room and he wouldn’t have made it this long. The humility part is Shaq trying to win Ernie’s approval despite the huge gulf in basketball knowledge and career success in general.

When he was a true superstar, before he left the Lakers, Shaq was well known for his defense. Like, in an age when people weren't shooting that many 3s, he was well known for his ability to show on pick and rolls and then recover to the basket, over and over. There weren't that many bigs that could do it like he did and there were obviously none as big as him. And he was definitely known as a shot blocker. The act of emphatically blocking a shot into the 10th row was referred to as "Shaq'ing." Maybe Barkley doesn't have memories of being blocked by Shaq, but O'Neal was a load on both ends of the court, until he got too heavy and out of shape, and then he became a defensive liability against certain teams. He was always an impossible player to stop from scoring though.

@@youraverage90sguys7 no it doesnt. I COULD explain it to you like i do to 6 years old kids. But i doubt that you would understand it. Here is a try; Player A: plays in the NBA for 10 seasons Averages 30 POINTS / 10 Assists / 10 Rebound. PLAYER B: plays in the NBA since he was 18 untill he is 43 years old. Averages 12 POINTS /4 ASSISTS / 4 REBOUNDS Player B end his career with more POINTS ,ASSISTS and REBOUNDS then PLAYER A. SO to you a 12/4/4 player is better then a player 30/10/10 🤣

When we talk of centers, Hakeem is the most often overlooked. I love shaq, and his low post moves were great. Hakeem had better low post moves and could move to the top of the key and still shoot. Shaq was a great low post defender, Hakeem was a better low post defender and if he found himself defending a PG by the 3 point line, he was still great. In today's game, Shaq would still be great, but they would pick and roll to bring him out of the paint... Hakeem was faster, had better footwork, better defense, and better shooting. Hakeem would be BETTER in today's game.

Kareem 3189 current blocks, but they didn't count blocks for Kareem's first 4 seasons where he played 321 games. If Kareem averaged just 2 blocks a game in those 4 seasons, he would be tied with Olajuwon. More likely he averaged say 3 blocks a game, which would mean 4152 blocks. The only person to make more than 4000 career blocks.

@@fyoutube9410 Doesn't matter. Shaq was a legit great rebounder, and could have been among the best of all time if he put in full effort all the time. But his scoring numbers are inflated by the league allowing him to get away with ridiculous fouls on offense on almost every possession. Shaq would've been lucky to get 20ppg had they called games fairly. But he broke rims and was able to generate a lot of marketing hype, so he was allowed to get away with murder on offense.

Shaq was a great shot blocker, obviously 8th all time, but he was definitely not a defensive specialist. That said, while he basically refused to play defense beyond the foul line, he was a major defensive factor just by being big. The dude was dunked on twice in his whole career. You couldn't drive to the basket while he was out there.

Shaq does have the record for blocks in a game with 15 (along with Manute Bol who did it twice). However, they didn't count blocks when guys like Wilt and Bill Russell played. It's actually quite a surprising fact that Shaq is 'only' 8th on all time blocks list even though he was so dominant during his prime. Although there are quite many videos around 'proving' he was a bit lazy and 'resting' on defense and mainly let his size and intimidation to alter the shots of the opponents instead of actively going for blocks. Kudos to Hakeem and Dikembe though! Currently my centers in NBA 2K22!

@WWE , that has always been the issue with Shaq, he was content at being one of the greatest players instead of being The Greatest Player of all time, even Kobe and Phil Jackson has said this on various outlets...
