This video was all about sharing with people in the same company as you. It is possible to share with external participants as well, but it does require some additional admin steps. Check the description box for a link to a video that talks about that process.

Thanks! You have caught the essence of the original Microsoft training videos. The sharing of a shared channel with teams was especially informational due to it's slightly quirkiness.

Hi, glad you found the video informational. I hope you are now using shared channels in ways that suit your business practices.

Hello, I can add an external user (Hotmail) to the default channel of a team (General) but I could not add the same email on a channel I created on my own! I followed Microsoft instructions of how to enable external invitation for a shared channel with no luck.

Hi, unfortunately both the tenants I have access to do not allow us to invite external people to a Shared Channel. Your issue could be down to some admin settings. For example, some companies only allow guest access and per Microsoft guests are not eligible to be in a Shared Channel. It could be that you are only allowed to have B2B access meaning that both companies must agree to the sharing. I know that with Shared Channels b2b is common. So if you want to say add me to your channel, my company would have to set up an agreement with your company; it is not enough for you to set it up on your side, both have to enable the agreement in their admin centers. As I am not an admin at your company it is hard to tell what the block is.

@@HeatherMajors Thanks a lot for your reply. In a few words could I invite somebody with public email service such as Gmail or Hotmail to a shared teams channel?
@HeatherMajors Жыл бұрын
@@tonyacchar4406 typically no. This is considered a risky practice and most companies block invites for people using free emails accounts that anyone in the world can sign up for.

I am not sure if I will

Fair enough. After using this for a bit I have found it useful to help cut down on the teams I have been invited to just to work on a single project. But ever feature does not have to be for every person :)
